The fifteen richest but fictional characters are: 01. $36.2 billion - Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks (Little Orphan Annie) 02. $16.8 billion - Montgomery Burns (The Simpsons) 03. $10.9 billion - Scrooge McDuck (Duck Tales) 04. $10.7 billion - Richie Rich (Richie Rich) 05. $7.7 billion - Jed Clampett (Beverly Hillbillies) 06. $7.1 billion - Uncle Pennybags (Monopoly) 07. $6.8 billion - Bruce Wayne (Batman) 08. $3.0 billion - Tony Stark (Iron Man) 09. $2.8 billion - Prince Abakaliki of Nigeria (Email Spam Scam) 10. $2.7 billion - Thurston Howell III (Gilligan's Island) 11. $2.0 billion - Willy Wonka (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory) 12. $1.3 billion - Lucius Malfoy (Harry Potter) 13. $1.0 billion - Tony Montana (Scarface) 14. $1.0 billion - Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) 15. $1.0 billion - Super Mario (Super Mario Bros.)

If Scrooge McDuck is on the list then shouldn't Flintheart Glomgold also be on the list somewhere below him? In that episode of Duck Tales where they compared who had more money Glomgold was really close. The difference between Scrooge and Mario is 9 billion and I doubt Scrooge has that much more than Glomgold. Glomgold would likely fit within that space.
I also doubt Mr. Burns has that much money considering that $100 million dollars was a HUGE deal to him in that episode where the Germans bought the plant.

Mario is a plumber. So he is just on the list because of the princess.
Edit: It says on there for the source of his money "commodities." What are they referring to? I would think that they would only be able to list any income sources from the world that the character is from.

Maybe they didn't want more than one character from the same "universe" (even though through various crossovers, some characters could have met, like how Lara Croft and Bruce Wayne have both faced the Predator). I remember this list a few years back and Lex Luthor was on it. I guess he could've simply dropped off the list, the beginning of Superman Returns shows that he would have to scam some old lady to get some inheritance money or something.
Forbes likely made up some of the figures. I don't know where they could've gotten the numbers for Uncle Pennybags, 'cause I've never known Monopoly to explicitly refer to the details of his character. And I'm sure Super Mario could easily have more than $1 billion if the gold Coins he finds in various games are worth their weight in real gold in our universe. Given their abundance in the Mushroom Kingdom, perhaps gold isn't so valuable, though.
I figured Richie Rich would've been richer. To have a name like that and not be the richest, well, that's just plain stupid. Still, I believe he was referred to as the world's richest boy, which he definitely is. And is Mario really 23 years old? He's been in games for slightly longer than that and seeing as how most fictional characters don't age (it's not like it was Baby Mario who fought off DK in the original Donkey Kong game), I would put him as older than 23. I'd say, like...almost twice as old. In his 40s.

"Maybe they didn't want more than one character from the same 'universe'"
I don't understand. Why would a respected publication like Forbes tinker with hard data like that? If they fudged around with a legitmate list like this how can I trust any of their figures.

You know, I wonder how much money Forbes would think Wario has. He may not be in as many games as Mario, but he actually actively seeks out wealth.

Carmen Sandiego should be on that list. I'm sure many kids never played far enough to stop her crazy thefts of world monuments.
I always imagined that she should be hotter than she usually is.

Cuz Carmen wasn't a thief she always gave everything back.
Also Mr Burns is greedy, a hundred dollar bill would get him wet in the pants.
I don't think the Gold COins in the Musroom Kingdom are the same as earth gold, I think they are like the equivelant of maybe a dollar or something like that. BUt Mario also has a HUGE golf course, a Tennis Court, Go Kart tracks, Soccer field, Baseball field and lives in a giant Castle.

Santa Claus used to be #1 on that list now, I just remembered.
I guess it was ludicrous to include someone who has infinite resources.

Actually Carmen Sandiego is not that rich. She steals the artifacts but if memory serves she eventually ends up putting them back in some way shape or form because its more the act with here and the thrill.

Well if you count from 1983(Donkey Kong) all the way to 2006(present), you would get 23 years. If you look at mario's character though... then I agree he does look like he could easisly be in the high 30's if not 40 or so years old.

I would expect Bruce Wayne to be a lot richer than that. I mean, he helps fund freaking SPACE STATIONS for the Justice League.
Mario might have more wealth than Wario considering how long he's been collecting coins, but just by looking at how each of them live I'd have to guess that Wario's richer. Of course, each of them seem to have vastly increased and decreased wealth from one game to the next. Wario Land 2 and Wario World make Wario out to be filthy rich, but Wario Land 4 and Wario Ware make him look like kind of a poor slob with a lot of kooky money making schemes. He must go on a lot of spending sprees.
Mario may have a lot of money tied up in vacation spots - see the castle and gigantic Mario statue in Super Mario Land 2. On the other hand, Mario's Mushroom Kingdom home is very humble.
Edit: the picture of Daddy Warbucks reminds me that if Bruce Wayne is on the list, Lex Luthor should probably also be on the list, a la Glomgold and Scrooge McDuck.

My theory is Santa doesn't have infinite resources but is incredibly rich from the royalties he receives for all the piddle 'n' crap with his likeness on it. Think about how many products exist with Santa Claus on it and imagine some dude getting a cut of ALL of it. No wonder he can afford to give toys to all the children of the world.
"Well if you count from 1983(Donkey Kong) all the way to 2006(present), you would get 23 years."
Donkey Kong came out in 1981. Mario Bros came out in 1983 and that's probably what Forbes is going off of since a quick search reveals that as the first game with "Mario" in the title.

I think a mushroom kingdom coin is worth about 1 Yen like all fictional currencies originating from Japan. OTOH, bean kingdom coins are worth a lot more yet you pay like 100 of them for a mushroom (while you pay like 5 MK copins for a shroom in Paper Mario 2).
The only exchange rate we know is 100 coins = 1 life. How much is a human life worth?

I rememeber way back during the early 90s wathcing that Tv show with Mario in it, I think it was an apisode of Mario World, where he was talking about how fun it is living in the mushroom kingdom cuz yo dont have to work whenever you want money you just bash some bricks or somthing like that. I cant rememebr what he was trying to buy though.

At the end of that episode, didn't the winner of the bet (as to who had the most money) get to keep all the money? Thus, wouldn't McDuck have Glomgold's money now?

Bah, in the true Carl Barks continuity, Scrooge McDuck is richer than Glomgold by only a few inches of string, the string he ties on to his number one dime.
Uncle Scrooge vol.1, issue 15, check it out, n00bs.
