Title: Are you actually prepared for the Wii?
Post by: JonLeung on November 14, 2006, 05:58:27 AM
Come Nov. 19 (assuming you're getting it launch day), are you ready for maximum Wii fun ASAP?  There are less than five days left, that's as many days as you have fingers on ONE HAND!  Almost there!  But enough time to prepare if you're not quite ready yet.

Things I still have to do to prepare for the Wii:

-buy some more rechargeable AA batteries for the Wii Remotes
STATUS: done!  Eight new ones (plus about as many other ones I already have if I can find them) should be enough.

-reinstall Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector
STATUS: done, but I'm unsure if the living room is in range of the computer room - is there any way to "boost" it if not?

-find Wii component cables
STATUS: done, I ordered online, hopefully they'll arrive before launch

-clear living room to make room for multiplayer games
STATUS: mostly done, just need to move the coffee table out

-find a second Wii Nunchuck
STATUS: need to do, preferably before launch if they're available

-buy another SD card?
STATUS: not sure if it's necessary yet, I could use the one I already have for my camera for the time being

-invite people to a Wii launch party
STATUS: response is minimal and discouraging...their loss!

-pick up Wii on morning of Nov. 19
STATUS: pre-ordered, but should call to find when they open

To prepare, I'm purging my game collection on Ebay... including the ol' Cube. So many good memories, but your spirit will live on in my Wii!

"Go, young Cube. It is time to entertain another."

I bought a Hungarian child just to make sure I have a 4th player.

batteryspace.com for rechargeable batteries + chargers.  Can't beat their prices.

I also suggest dealnews.com to keep an eye on SD card prices.

The only thing I might need to do is reposition my Wireless LAN adapter to get better reception all the way into my living room.

Other than that I am good to go.

I am all set myself. Got 2 128 MB Sd sticks ready to go, got plenty of people coming over for the huge party (promised beer and video games means great response round here)

um bought a brand new WiFi router (for several other reasons but just in time for Wii)

sold soem stuff on ebay and on mysite so funding is secured.

Plan on heading over to Walmart as soon as I get off work to get the system and games.

Other than that tehre isnt anything else to do except make sure I have enough money left over for chips and sodas, my freinds are bringing the beer so thats covered.

I need to figure a setup for my room. It isn't exactly optimal for Wii play.

Let's see.

1) Pickup system @ Target, get 10% off.

2) At same time as 1, get 3 games - Zelda + Excite Truck + probably Red Steel - and get $20 gift card.

3) Save $20 gift card for either VC controller or Wii points.  If Target gets component cables, I'll get that.

4) Go to Gamestop immediately after and use 112 dollars worth of trade-in credit to pick up another game plus another entire Wiimote set.

5) Maybe go to Rhino, as all accessories are 15% off that day, and pick up a controller or controller gloves or something.

6) Batteries are go/check.

7) Room is....ok.  It'll be at my gf's apartment for the time being.

8) Have brand new Linksys G router all ready to go.  Will reinstall Wifi adapter as needed.

9) Maybe pick up a cheap SD card online (there's a $20 2 gig Kingston card over at buy.com right now that is enticing).

10) Probably won't have many friends over, but I will be taking it to grandma's on Thanksgiving, and will pimp it out to relatives and play games with my nephew.

11) Christmas holidays = multiplayer fests with close friends, one of who e-mailed me out of nowhere and said he was getting a Wii.

I think that makes me set for now.
