Title: ANyone still play Mario Kart online?
Post by: segagamer12 on November 10, 2006, 05:12:49 PM
I got a new DS Lite and i havent gone online sine I broke my old DS a while back so I am wondering if anyone still goes online for that game. I will of course have to update my friend code and such so if you still play online and want to add me back as a friend let me know.

It got a bit to competetive for me hahaha. I had a good win ratio, like 350 wins 150 loses. But man, those yoshi egg car and dry bones car racers were to much for me. I wish all the carts were more or less equal, or just a tad more balanced for my tastes.

I'd play more, but im sure everyone would leave me in the dust now.

Well I was neevr that good anyways but I added everyoens friend codes when the game first came out, there was a thread devoted to it, and I NEVER found any of my friends online ever. So I wanted to updated all my friend codes but I forgot who all I had added before.

Yeah it just became a competition of everyone mashing left and right, "competitive" Mario Kart DS is the lamest thing i've ever played in my entire life. They really need to tone down the boost you get in the next MK. Double Dash was almost perfect.

Yeah, same here. I stopped playing with all the snakers. It's just something I've never been able to learn or really want to learn. I'm very good at just powersliding normally. I was able to beat all the staff ghosts and races just powersliding normally. I'm even a 3 star racer. I'll race anyone else who wants to go at it normally but there's always one person snaking online. Of course, what the other racers should do is try and use all their items on the snaker. That would negate the advantage.

Now, chess on Clubhouse games. That's something I can play online still.

What are the online dogfights for Star Fox like? I can't recall reading any impressions around here. I'm always so tempted to get that game but I haven't yet.

Do not have the game, but I am surprised you have not seen the people who use Chessmaster as their crutch.  They are usually easy to pick out.

I've only played 4 games or so online. Still, tips on cheaters methods would be appreciated. How can you tell?

Well it used to be easy to spot because a computer chess master on the "Grandmaster Level" would take some time to make a move.  Especially in the later parts of a match.  Relatively simple choices (give up a pawn) would take a while as the cheater would enter your move and wait for the computer to make its move.  They don't make mistakes, grow more challenging, etc.  Sometimes they'll be flagrant about it too, relaying the messages from the computer AI (checkmate in 3 moves).  It's been a while so I'm not sure if these still stand today as good measures.

Given  that most folks aren't grandmasters when you play online, I would tend to classify on the 'cheater' side if I spotted these.  Sure they could be good, but I think the probability of cheaters was high for PC chess at least.  The DS might be safer in that it's a portable device.

My hand cramped up after all the mini-turbo boosting and I never went back.

I suck at Mario Kart...

Sorry, I only play it for the hell of it, not to prove my skills or anything.

I would play DS online much more often than I do, but my router is set for WPA security and really don't want to lower it to the inferior WEP everytime I play a DS game. Thankfully, the Wii is WPA compatible so that will not be an issue. With any luck, the Wii can act as a special DS-only access point, though I doubt that.

Also, the range for online access is really terrible for my DS. I have a nice Linksys router and everything, but I can't get access outside of my room. Heck, I think certain areas of my room are off-limits too. Granted, my router is pretty tucked away.

I still play Mario Kart DS online once in awhile. I've always found it hard to find people on my friends list to race against, so I mostly do single player.

Honestly, my main gripe was that the DS isn't a great MK controller.

The Wii won't have that problem so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thats my fav game to play online!  The dogfights are a blast, I highly recommend the game!  The only bad part is that if one person drops out the game goes back to the menu.
