I'm so used to the tiny Cube discs that seeing big honkin' discs taking up the whole case looks weird to me.
I'm of the opinion that if you have to intentionally not emphasize screenshots on the fricking back of the box then maybe you skimped a little too much on the graphics capabilities.
I like the control indicator on the box. It's a good idea.

We've all seen SMB:BB in action by now - it's the best the series has ever looked. The new art direction fits the series perfectly. I'm not worried by the lack of decent screenshots on the back of the box (though I do see your point, it could potentially be a turn-off for someone unfamiliar with the Wii or the Monkey Ball series). I already know that this game looks about as beautiful as any Wii launch title could ever possibly be.

I'm not seeing any difference in "screens-to-boxart" ratio from Gamecube to Wii...

I like the fact that Nintendo went with a different color for their boxes. Now you can tell what system a game is for with a less-than-a-second glance. White=Wii, Blackish blue=PS3, Green=Xbox360. And hey Rhoq! Look at it this way; now you can grab some colored pens and get creative with those discs, makin 'em uniquely you!
It isnt really a big deal, but it gives us something else to think about, making the wait a few minutes shorter... will other companies get a bit more colorful with their discs? Will they all be more or less uniform? Perhaps these discs lack color for lack of time in pressing them, to hit that launch rush? Just some things to kick around instead of staring at this damn countdown clock...

PS3 is now just a clear blu-ray case, but all will be easy to tell apart
Doesn't matter what the disc looks like, its whats inside that counts

Ahhhh, thanks for that Blackplague! I hadn't seen those boxes yet!

Single color for disc art? Bad bad bad. If they can afford full color manuals, they can afford full color disc art. With the cube, the discs were small enough that it didn't matter. But with the Wii...it'll effect people's perception of the product. That Super Monkey Ball disc looks cheap. It's not a huge deal, true...but you should never write off the little details. Look at Apple. Look at the attention they pay to packaging. Notice how they focus not just on what will sell the product in the store, but on what goes inside the box. They work on making you feel good about your purchase, and Nintendo should too.

The Japanese get gorgeous white discs! Why don't we?!?
I will say, however, that having lame disc art on the inside isn't anywhere close to as bad as have the SPIDER-MAN FONT for your fricking logo.

I personally like the simpleness of the mono color disc. Did on the Cube. Do know. It reminds me to put them back and thats a game. On the Screen shot I have to say I think there is a good amount considering that a Third of it is pretty much required text on the bottom.
Apple includes a what I'm calling a placemat with the desktops. Its a cover that has a picture of the desktop on it. Also the wire ties have little barcodes. I want a Wii placemat.

'Course, not only was that a 3rd party disc (tho chances are the one-color issue affects the Nintendo titles too), who's to say they might not transition to full color labels later? It is cheaper to just do it in blue, and they've got to get as many copies out as possible for launch, so maybe the extra expense wasn't worth it.
Anyway, If I hear about one person in the entire country who either doesn't get a Wii or returns their game because the label on the disc isn't in multiple colors, I will turn in my Know-It-All badge.

I rather have all the disc to be blue (*not zelda*) insted of white/gray because it looks nicer with the wii's blue disc drive light and when nintendo finally releases a black wii the white disc wont fit in...

It might just be 3rd party. I don't know what Sega does for Playstation and Xbox discs but maybe it's the same? Plus, most of their manuals are in black and white and not color, so not every one is spending the money on a full colored manual. In the end though, it's just not a big worry to me. I do like the box though.

I agree that little details like that are important for marketing. Though in this case they might be okay because I imagine most people that even see the disc will already own a Wii. It's not like you can see the disc in the store.
B&W manuals bother me more, just because I personally don't like paying $65 Canadian for a product that feels cheap. If Sega's games cost less money then a B&W manual wouldn't bother me so much but they cost the same as games with full colour manuals.

Yeah Black and White manuals bug me. I enjoy a good manual but they have been in rapid decline in favor of in-game tutorials. I remember the Story they use to put into those manuals. Great stuff.

You don't need to have great disc art for a game to be playable. Gripe about something of importance here. Unless you have x-ray vision most people aren't going to be worried about the disc because the game will be in the system, thus impossible to see.

I used to the Cube's discs so its not a problem at all. But if anything looks cheap I'd say it's those PS3 cases. The clear plastic is quite hideous for such an expensive machine.

Those are BluRay cases, minus the blue stripe across the top of the box (presumably so customers won't confuse a PS3 game with a BluRay movie).
