Title: Elite Beat Agents Reviews!
Post by: WuTangTurtle on November 07, 2006, 11:34:02 AM
So it looks like IGN gave it a 9.5, 1up a 9, Gamespot a 8.9, and then u have Game Informer 6.75.
Don't trust Game Informer they gave Paper Mario the same score too. Makes me believe every game they give a 6.75 is a great game.

TYPICAL from the same people that called Chibi Robo the perfect punishment for children...
Good thing my GI subscription will run out soon...

THIS GAME IS AWESOME. Really I don't know why Game Informer wrecked on it ... oh that's right, Nintendo made it , Game Informer seems to hate them. I suggest everyone gets to the store ASAP and buys this game.

Did you play the original Ouendan?
I ask because I have the gut feeling that hardcore Ouendan fans will dismiss EBA. I already know a friend who is a hardcore Ouendan fan and thinks EBA is not fun at all.
And yeah, GI seems to have it out for Nintendo. Like I said, they TRASHED Chibi Robo, almost ranking it as the worst and being a perfect punishment for children. Sure the game wasn't perfect, but the game had a lot of charm and it rewarded the gamer will a great story, unforgettable characters and an immense feeling of discovery.

I have not played Ouendan, so maybe it isn't as good, but alot of the reviews I read say that this is as good as Ouendan. If it isn't I guess I have something to look forward too after this one.
Yeah I loved Chibi Robo, and I did read their review a while back and I was infuriated. The game is unique and without games like this, videogaming would be bland and boring. I guess EBA is not "hardcore" enough for them either.

I think you hit the nail on the head right there. GI is definitely skewed towards the 16 to 25 year old male market. Its writer's seem most interested in eye candy and mass carnage.

Game Informer's best argument was "it's not Guitar Hero."
This is like saying chocolate ice cream is not an alcoholic beverage, and blaming said dairy product.

This game is really freaking fun. And funny. I haven't played Ouendan, but I may import it after getting through EBA. I haven't played enough of it to be sure, nor have I touched Portrait of Ruin or Yoshi's Island DS, but this could my favorite DS game of the year.

...which I find funny because EBA took every chance it could to show T&A.
Remember the immune system level in Ouendan? There's a similar level this time only the muscular antibodies have been replaced with an attractive nurse white blood cell which shows off tons of leg and cleavage.
Then there's the scantily clad Hilton sisters getting stuck on a desert isle (they call them the Carrington sisters, but I think we all know what they meant) who encourage the animals to do their bidding with the fail-proof technique of shaking their breasts at them.
But the game itself was excellent, though I can't understand why it has the Touch Generations emblem on it as this is the type of game which will DEFINITELY set arthritis off if you have it. This game is NOT a non-gamer game. This is the type of game which will frustrate the hell out of non-gamers and make them hate their DS.
The normal levels seem to be harder than those of Ouendan while the hard levels are easier than Ouendan's...go figure.
All in all, it feels like a more complete version of Ouendan, the ability to save one replay for each level is DEFINITELY welcome, as is the ability to then send those replays to another DS, and the ability to skip to the VERY beginning of a song, which would have saved me from giving up on Ouendan's final level on hard.
Also, the ending level is MUCH better than Ouendan's. I won't spoil it, but it goes so far as to add some drama to the level.
If you don't have this game yet, buy it. You won't regret it. I hope it sells extraordinarily well as this will be the first American oriented INIS game and they're probably the most underrated developer I know of.
This makes me BADLY wish Ouendan and EBA shared a lead character who could then appear in SSBB...

I finished "Breezin'" (the easiest difficulty level) already. I could get through most of the stages on my first try with Bs and Cs and at least all Os and no Xs, until I hit the last stages (if you play the game, you'll definitely know when you hit them). But I eventually passed them, the very last one just barely, I think, and I thought the end was kinda cool.
I'd also like to say that Cap White is the HOTTEST nurse-incarnation of a white blood cell I have ever seen in my life. One of the girls in the "Material Girl" mission have the bounciest boobs I've seen in a Nintendo published game. And who knew that time, limitations of physical size, species difference and death (kinda) can't stop the EBA from helping people? o_0
EDIT: fixed spoiler tags. But just go play the game already.

The whole EBA vs Ouendan debate from Ouendan side makes no sense
Its like debating you should only play DDR1, because u dont like the songs on the other 20 DDR games if you arent accepting of other songs, then ur gonna miss out on alot of enjoyment
edit: they also changed on the screen dancing ppl on ddr games, another compareable thing

Personally, I want to see a Wii game called "Ouendan vs. the Elite Beat Agents" which features ALL of the songs and allows for four player Wiimote play.
*drool*...

Its too bad that considering both Ouedan and EBA are too localized for them to have a representation in SSB Brawl.
My idea was that instead of having them as characters, they would be items. When the Ouendan logo appears on stage, you grab it and the Ouendan team will appear. As they chant and dance in the background your characters gets a temporary speed boost, more stamina and strenght.

Commander Kahn would be AWESOME in Smash Bros.

I don't think it would be that hard for them to skin two sets of characters for the US/Japanese versions of Brawl.
They'd be like the Ice Climbers except there would be three of them and they'd move in perfect sync rather than the delayed reaction like the ICers.

lol, the more the merrier. By the way anyone know how many characters are gonna be in Brawl, I had feeling all the past characters would be in it but it now doesn't look that way.

They said "around 40", but that could easily change (I'd guess 35ish).

This game deserves the 9.5 i gotta say i was impressed by Quendan before but i really wanted EBA, well because it would be in ENGLISH... At first glanced over the song list i had to admit i was not quite happy about them but i gotta say they do the game justice they fit perfectly with the scenes. but i wish they would have some sort of option to use your own song that would be real cool but sounds easy on paper but is probably impossible. EBA is a good game specially when playing multiplayer is a blast. i highly recomend this game to anyone.

I'm over 27 million points punks. And I got a perfect combo on Walkie Talkie Man with the Divas. SNAP!

For some reason when I play the movie level my saved replay plays while I do. It's incredibly distracting. I can't figure out why it's happening or how to turn it off, but it must be possible because it doesn't happen on all the missions. I can't find any mention of it in the manual or game menus, and I've tried different button combinations before, during, and after selecting the mission with no luck. Has anybody figured this out?

Elite Beat Agents = kicks ass. I have no idea why, but when I first typed this I typed Elite Beatch Agents. Thought it was pretty funny.

So I finally got around to picking up Elite Beat Agents and I must say I'm very disappointed in the game.
First off, I absolutely love Ouendan. But EBA seems to do everything worse than the original. The songs are horrible. The game is way too easy (I beat the first nine missions in a row without failing a single section). The stories are really bad compared to the original's. And I must say I really dislike the excessive use of overlapping touch spots; when there's a lot of them (4+) it's very difficult to tell how many there are. The only good part is that the spinners aren't insanely hard like the first one's.
Ouendan 2 can't come soon enough.

I do agree that compared to Ouendan the game was easier (ESPECIALLY the last level on hard and super hard), but everything else is clearly an issue of preference.
I happened to love both Ouendan and EBA, since each game has something that the other doesn't (is this phrased right?). Ouendan has more quirky stories and characters, yes, but EBA provides a bit more story to the agents and presents them in a much better way. Not to mention that EBA adds A LOT of features that makes the gameplay even better and more complete than Ouendan (such as the ability to skip both sets of cutscenes, replays and many more).
And even if the characters and stories have been toned down a tad bit, I still found them to be fun. I LOVE Colonel Bob (aka mini Larry the Cable guy the oil tycoon), Cap white and ESPECIALLY the Carrington sisters (a vicious jab at how shallow and material obsessed some celebrities are). Keep in mind that Ouendan had some dull stories as well, and EBA is no different. Oh and the final stages are EPIC. Its hard to deny that EBA did a much better job at creating an epic last level than Ouendan.
As for the songs, I agree that the soundtrack could've been better, but again, preference. I am SURE many Japanese players found the songs in Ouendan to be annoying and terrible since that's the common norm there. Of course it sounds good to us since we are oblivious to most J-pop stuff. Oh and Jumping Jack Flash owns your soul, fool!
So again, at least I wouldn't say EBA is inferior to Ouendan since its all a matter of preference.

I just picked this game up yesterday and I regret putting it off for so long. It is just extremely enjoyable. I've barely even grazed this game and has me really wanting to import Ouendan.

EBA is great. I didn't like any of the newer songs featured, but overall the selection was okay. I thought the cover of "You're the Inspiration" was even better than the original. Also, I love "Rock This Town," but why does it have to be in every single rhythm game ever released? Still beats that song about seeing the skaterboy later boy, though. Ugh, I have to turn down the volume for that one.

You can't say that EBA is easier than Ouendan, because it's subjective once again. Specifically, it will depend on which one you played first. I was dissappointed initially with how easy Ouendan was(all the way through to Ready Steady Go on Normal without failing a song, and even that one only took two tries), but that was because I had already gotten the highest ranking in EBA when I played it. It took me two months to get the highest EBA ranking, yet because of that I was able to do the same on Ouendan in under two weeks(I had every song in the game completed within one week).
Now that I've finished them both, I still think EBA is harder(except for the spinners, which are just too hard in Ouendan), based on the fact that I have more S ranks in Ouendan. Also I have S Ranked Ready Steady Go on Hard, while I still can't even finish Jumpin' Jack Flash on Sweatin' without at least missing one beat somewhere in that mess.
I expect this to become a major issue later in the year when Ouendan 2 is released, and too many people claim it's too easy, when it really isn't.
There are no real reasons for choosing Ouendan or EBA, only personal preferences. I like them both myself. The Agents are better characters IMO, and I like the Agents dancing more than the Cheer Squad's cheering, but I prefer the songs in Ouendan. As I said, I think EBA is a little harder, but then again I kind of like how the patterns seem to flow better in Ouendan at times. I hate the Ouendan spinners, and don't particularly like the EBA ones either. I could go on and on, but the point remains that these are just minor details, and both games are among the best the DS has to offer.
