Title: Amazing Wii Deals!
Post by: decoyman on October 28, 2006, 01:39:38 PM
I can't believe there's no thread for this yet... I just found my first Wii deal, so I need a thread to hold it.
At Target, you get a $20 gift card if you buy 3 games on launch day.
Now, if you never shop at Target (your loss), then it's probably not a deal. BUT if you do lots of shopping at Target, then it's basically like getting 1 game at full price and getting the next two at 20% off (assuming they're all $50 games). That seems like a decent deal to me. Oh, and plus, the gift card they advertised this deal with was the snazzy white one which lights up blue LEDs around the edge if you push the "power" button on it. Nice.
Since I'm starting the thread, I'm going to suggest some ways to keep it organized. Just post deals or comments about said deals, and avoid idle chitchat tangents. How 'bout we also list the deal part in bold so it's easier to pick out too. What do you say? EASY PERUSING ENABLED.
EDIT: Forgot my source: there're these little Wii brochures you can pick up in the gaming aisle that advertise this deal. I can post pics if anyone wants.

That's more like buy 3 games full price and get a bit less than 1/2 off the 4th.

This has already been discussed at CAG, but I'll reiterate here:
If you go to Target on launch day and buy the system + 3 games, you qualify for the $20. Also, if you don't already, sign up for their Target credit card. Then you'll save another 10% off your purchase.
So roughly, you'll save about $65. Which is essentially another new game, a Wii-mote set, some accessories, etc.
Someone has also mentioned that it might be in your best interests to get the extended warranty plan. Target's plan for 200-500 dollar merchandise for 3 years is $30 I believe. I know this is Nintendo we're talking about, but it might be worthwhile given all the new tech that is running under the hood.
Also, the gift card is godly. I'm going to have the clerk scan it and give it back to me immediately. That thing is awesome (I went and got one already for the fun of it).

I was at Target yesterday and was told that they will be handing out numbers for the Wii - first come, first serve on November 19th. They said to be prepared to "camp out" over night and will begin hanging out the numbers to those in line around 4 AM (store opens at 8 AM on Sundays).
No thanks.

Looks like Australian retailers are finally releasing their pricing structure for Wii games and accesories. Looks to be good news dvd crave is selling Wii games for no more than AU$88.75 (Monkey Ball). Games warehouse is a little more expensive with Zelda set at AU$99.95. I have yet to see a Nintendo game (1st or 3rd party) that you cant get for less than AU$100. Just need to shop around.
So it looks as if Nintendo arent going to price themselves out of the Australian market for the up an comming generation. =)

All this talk about sellouts are really freaking me out, since I don't have a preorder. But I still think I am ok.
On Sunday, I can hit Walmart at Midnight (we have two in town) then Best Buy Sunday morning (we have two in town) or Target (we have two) or Circuit City (one) or even Toys R Us (we have one)
I find it hard to believe all of those will completely sellout...and yet I am afraid I will miss out.

for those that don't get it, that would be Wii games for $30 or so +shipping
edit: added from my below
I guess I should add that you may have to add some small insignificant item to bump your purchase over $50 to get your discount. But I would hurry cause most of the filler items are dissapearing quickly.
p.s. try comic books or pencils/pens, but remember to put the shipping to as cheap as possible to enjoy our discount.

Check your Toys R Us for a "$30 off a selection of 3 launch games" promotion. I noticed it last week. There's a list of eligible launch games (excluding ZERUDA), and it includes a bunch of the popular ones already.

Just a reminder to those who want them, eStarland still has the Indigo Hori Digital GameCube Controller for $9.95 ($4 shipping for one, $5 for two).
Awesome deal on this thing and yes, it does work perfectly fine with most VC games (Personally, I've tested it with Zelda and Bonk's Adventure - and the D-Pad does work with it). Get these while you can if you want them, this'll probably be the last time you see 'em for sale new.

Deep Discount DVD is now selling a VARIETY of games, not just EA's rubbish this time around. Consider it as another backup online retailer.
Everything seems to be up to $10 off, and media mail shipping is always free.

I was just looking at the flyers for Boxing Day, and us Canadians are in for a treat. I'll be damned if this isn't one of the best gaming-related Boxing Days yet! They're coming out of every orifice! The flyers are literally excreting the discounts..
I'll list the relevant ones on a store-by store basis. All prices in Canadian dollars, of course..
Superstore:
I love Superstore, and it has outdone itself this time.
All original DSes - only $89.98!! That's mind-blowing. I'm so tempted to buy yet another one for my family.
GameCube PLUS Super Smash Bros Melee - $89.98. I saw it for that price over a year ago somewhere, but this is with SSBM. Can't go wrong (retail for that bundle is $160)..
All value video games $9.98 - they're usually $19. I'm going to pick up a couple of obscure or old titles that I missed.
Intec Universal Racing Wheel - $19.99 (regularly $50)
SD Cards - Kingston 2GB: $29.99
Zellers:
ALL Wii games - 15% OFF
DS Lite PLUS WiFi Connector - $164.94 (save $20)
50% off ALL games under $30 (wow)
WalMart:
Players Choice games - $18.63 (save $10)
GameCube console - $77.93
Best Buy:
2 1GB PNY SD Cards - $29.99 (save $70)
DS Lite - $129.99
So in conclusion, everyone who hasn't bought a DS, PICK ONE UP ON THE 26th!! .....
Also, I was extremely surprised to see the low prices of the Xbox 360. I guess it didn't sell well here during the holiday season, but Microsoft is going all out for Boxing Day. I read once that the Xbox doesn't do as well in Canada, so that may be the reason. But I digress.
In at least 3 places (FS, BB and Walmart I believe) the premium bundle PLUS Ghost Recon PLUS Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged is only around $400 CDN. That's unbelievable, especially when you consider that the console itself without the games is usually $500 CDN.
Finally, we all know the PSP's sales situation, so a discount was inevitable. Future Shop has the console plus a case for $180 ($70 saving) and Best Buy has it for the same price but no case. That's actually a pretty reasonable price if I was looking for a PSP. Or an Xbox 360 for that matter. But I'm not..

Wow, that Zellers deal is really good. I might actually have to shop there.
On a different note, I've read differently. From what I've been told the Xbox deos really well up here. I don't know about the 360 but the orginal seemed to do pretty good. In fact, from 5 friends of mine, 4 have an Xbox. One has a playstation. One also has a Gamecube with the Xbox. It's always seemed pretty popular to me.

Well, anecdotal evidence is obviously not going to get us anywhere, but most of my friends have either Cubes or PS2s, and only two or three of them have an Xbox. I can't remember where I read it, but I may look it up..

Zellers Excite Truck GET! Thanks, IceCold. It was the bright spot after a day of fruitless searching for discounted GameCube games. Looks like Christmas was good to retailers, there were very few excess GameCube games in the malls near me.

Quote Nintendo's next-generation Wii console topped Canadian unit hardware sales in February and Nintendo's games accounted for six of the top 10 selling titles in the month, according to The NPD Group, which tracks the industry.[ (...) Games for Nintendo hardware (Wii, DS, GameCube and GameBoy Advance) occupied 11 of the 20 places on the sales chart with Xbox 360 claiming the remaining five.
Quote Canadian Top 10 Best-Selling Games for February, 2007
1. Wii Play with Wii Remote--Wii 2. Crackdown--Xbox 360 3. Diddy Kong Racing--Nintendo DS 4. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess--Wii 5. New Super Mario Bros.--DS 6. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition--Xbox 360 7. WarioWare: Smooth Moves--Wii 8. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess--GameCube 9. Gears of War--Xbox 360 10. Guitar Hero 2 bundle--PlayStation 2
The sales discrepancies between Canada and the US are very interesting, actually.. I wouldn't have thought that there was much of a difference except for the fact that NHL games sell much better over here obviously.
The PS3 sold only slightly over 6,000 units here, and the 360 about 12,000 systems. The Wii was at nearly 30,000, and it's sold out everywhere.

The whole thing sadly... What they meant was "Zelda: TP for $40." Both GCN and Wii versions were $40 each.
Oh, by the way, Super Store has a lot of games (all systems) marked down to $20, and other price drops. The only Wii game I saw was DBZ Budokai-whatsit 2 for $20. It might be worth checking out!

Whoa! I played DBZ and I liked it, but I never picked it up, thinking I would when it got a price drop. I'll definitely check that out.
Oh, and I'm also going to see if Future Shop or Walmart would match the price for the Zellers flier.

Buy me a DBZ for $20 and I'll pay you back, I promise. I want the game, even though I've never played it, but I hate paying full price for games other than the ones I know I will get my moneys worth from(ie. Zelda & Mario).

I was able to grab Mario Party and Paper Mario and get the $20. I just got this by email shortly after ordering...
This email is to notify you of a change in the release date of your pre-ordered item. This change is a result of a manufacturer decision and not Circuit City?s, but we will keep you informed of any further date changes we receive. You will not be charged for this item until it is shipped to you.
Original Release Date: 06/01/2007
New Release Date: 05/27/2007
Product Desired: Mario Party 8 (Wii)
So there is the posibility that they no longer offer it online to control stock and ensure store availability, and they were late to fix the date. The store ad claims that you get a $20 gift card if they don't have the game Wednesday after 2pm (Just for Wednesday and I think you commit to buying the game when they do get it in)
Edit: It's $40 in store too, although the buy 2 and get $20 seems to be online only...

Do you know if I could get the same price if I went in store? Then I could get the game for less than $30 after tax and that would make me happy.
I bought WiiPlay yesterday and went to Gamestop to do so. They said they had just the game in stock and I could purchase it w/o the controller. It took him a few minutes to find it and look up the price, so I started guessing what the price would be. I was hoping for "honest" price of $9.99 and he shrugged. As he went to scan it in I suggested $14.99 as a fair price that I was willing to pay, he shrugged again. Just as he was about to announce the price I said "Don't tell me it's something like $20 or so" and he said "$29.99, you get get this or Resident Wiivil and pay the same". I was shocked, as that is some serious price gouging. THey probably bought it back for $5 and reselling it at $15.00 would be fair, but $30!!!! you've got to be joking. I'd rather pay an extra $20 and get the controller too, so thats what I did. (I had a $25.00 gift card and thats the only reason I went in there.)

No, assuming everything I post is an online deal only, unless otherwise noted. They're typically posted under "daily deals" sections and the prices jump up and down daily.

I was on the lookout for Wii reviews when I stumbled upon this site, (http://www.smartratings.com/review/electronics/video_gaming_consoles/86). I immediately noticed the list of various merchants selling Wii online. Although stocks are still limited, they're coming in slow steady supply. All items are sold in bundles so that means that they come in complete sets including Wii Sports.

So.. pick up something for $10 or more in addition to WiiPlay and you can use that coupon. After it's all said and done, you'll have saved $30 off $70 + purchases - pretty amazing.

Ahahahahaha!!
For Canadians:
Preorder Super Mario Galaxy at Amazon, then buy something else worth over $0.01 (the cheapest one is a kids book like this). Then, use the $10 off $50 coupon code MAPOCTNCSAVE. For Alberta, the total including taxes (and free shipping) for Galaxy and the book is $43.71 CDN.
You could use this deal to buy an extra game or accessory for Wii instead of that book. If you buy Mario plus a nunchuck, it comes out to $68.88 total.

Hmm, the Toys R Us ad indeed has the $25 gift card for Super Mario Galaxy, but also calls attention to a few things...
1) Limit 1 per customer, no rain checks (expected) 2) See back of gift card for terms and conditions... It may be possible that the gift card will have exclusions, such as video game hardware and software.

I am going to head out there today myself to see what the real deal is. However I worked at a TRU for almost 4 years and if I remember their policy well, anything that offers a discount usually excluded video game hardware and diapers. Video games are rarely excluded from various offers. This is a gift card though . . . those usually are as good as cash. . . It might just have an expiration date and probably doesn't let you use it on Mario Galaxy.
Title: RE:Amazing Wii Deals!

Update anyone who preorders in general at Toys R Us for Super Mario Galaxy will get the 25 gift card. The gift card probably from what I hear is not good on diapers, formula, and video game hardware but software is good.
I encourage anyone who has a good friend that wants a Wii Game to do this.
Friend 1: Buys SMG and gets gift card You: Buy SMG and get gift card
Toys R Us: Buy 2 get 1 free deal
Friend buys one game and uses card = 1 game 25 dollars You buy one game and use your card = 1 game 25 dollars Then you both get a game for free you can play together = 1 game for free
So in Reality if you and your friend(s) share games, you guys are getting 3 games for 50 bucks. . . . not too shabby

My wife just got home from shopping about 15 minutes ago. She picked up SMG for me and I am looking at the card as we speak. I don't see any restrictions on video game hardware or diapers. The card doesn't expire either, but after 24 months of non-use they are able to start deducting a maintenance fee of $2 a month in all but a few select states.

Crud... Trauma Center was the #1 choice for this buy 3 deal.... and that hits Thanksgiving day according to them.
Makes sense though... all these stores will have separate ads for Black Friday.

Hmm... maybe I should move over all my purchasing decisions to Lion Games?

Well Kairon a good thing about Liongames.com is that they sometimes offer pre-order specials (heavily discounted prices) the only drawback is that you have to pay up front. And I wish they offered DS and PSP games as well, the only do Wii 360 and PS3.

Amazon's deal of the day is PS3 Wireless Media Keyboard for 29.99 now your going to ask why are you posting a PS3 accessory on a Wii deals thread? Well because the wireless is done on a USB dongle, so this does support PS3, Wii , Xbox360, PC and Macs (confirmed by users on cheapassgamer.com) for text input without those evil vile wires and more traditional keyboard and mouse use on computers(note it lacks a windows button if you dont like that).

For those not in the know, not only is the Toys R Us Buy 2 get 1 Free deal today, but if you look in your Sunday paper, there is a coupon for a $10 gift card if you spend $75 or more.
Also you can do the B2G1 Free deal online, and you can also purchase pre-orders during this deal. People are ordering Geometry Wars and SSBB as I type this right now.

I already made a toys r us run and got RE:UC, Fire Emblem(it actually has a gamecube controller logo on the back of the box!), Battalion Wars 2. I'm going to make another run to get Zack and Wiki, Geometry Wars galaxy, and hopefully guilty gear XX access core. Also the lines were insane today at toys r us due to 100+ Wiis were in stock today.

I picked up RE:UC - $50 FE - $50 Z&W -$0 ------------------- -$25 from SMG Gift Card = $75 +tax
+ $10 Giftcard (expires 12/31/2007) to use for SSBB Preorder that I have to place before the year is over.
TRU is making me spend monies on games I don't really have the time to play.

How is Brawl part of this? It was free when I put it in my cart... so tempting to make an order that includes Brawl, but I just know TRU will probably end up partially canceling my order and costing me money in the end...
Bah, I don't trust them.
Bah, not only that, they seem to be over charging sales tax (wtf?) It's bad enough that it's 7.75%, but how do they figure $8.21 on a $99.98 purchase?

They are charging you sales tax on the shipping as well. Most online retailers do it to increase revenue.

1. How are you guys preordering Brawl when I can not even find it on their own site. . . 2. Does this mean I can use the deal on games that haven't even come out yet?
I'd normally do this in the store but I really want Trauma Center which doesn't come out until tomorrow which is the end of the deal. . .This sounds good all on paper but I know they wont stock the shelves with the game until Wed. I rather just preorder the darn game online with the deal if they will count it.

Hey, for some reason Assassin's Creed 360 is on the list on their website. Anyone know if it's actually working? I need to pick up that game today and it would be sweet to get two wii games for the price of one.
Title: RE: Amazing Wii Deals!
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on November 19, 2007, 04:01:45 AM
You can order it on the website, but don't be surprised if it isn't honored later on and you somehow end up missing out on the deal altogether, or not saving as much money as you were supposed to.
But no risk, no reward.
Title: RE: Amazing Wii Deals!
Post by: Shecky on November 19, 2007, 05:13:39 AM
Well I ordered several copies. We'll see what happens.
I also saw Assassin's Creed for the Xbox360 on there. I'm not sure what would happen with that one either - even though it's currently listed as "eligible".
Darkheart, I have the word of two employees that I'll be able to do and even exchange for Trauma Center later this week, so I bought a filler game and plan to exchange it (unopened obviously) later.

Toys-R-Us has changed the text of their promo on this the last two days. It now explicitly excludes pre-orders... even though that text was not there earlier. I'm guessing they'll null orders made earlier that contained any pre-orders (new blood, brawl) even though they changed their agreement.
Unless someone ordered 6+ copies of brawl, I'd argue that they should honor it.
It's also sweet how 50%+ games listed as eligible are "Temp not available" to purchase online. Sweet.
We'll see what happens.
I blame resellers for all of this, and small time ebayers (word?)

Well, for Canadians, Dell's been having their "5 Days of Gaming Deals" with some great deals on other console games. But today they had Mario Galaxy for $35 CDN. What idiots..
Unfortunately, it sold out within minutes of them putting it up. But FIFA 08 is up there for $35 if you're interested.

What the HELL????
Dell, the idiots that they are, offered preorders of Smash Bros Brawl at $35 CDN with free shipping at 7am tomorrow, just like Galaxy yesterday. It obviously sold out, but they must have had thousands of units, since it lasted for a few hours.
Argh.. I knew I should have woken up early today and checked.

I know this is late, but if anyone's headed out to Circuit City to get Super Mario Galaxy on the cheap tomorrow, you might want to pick up a SanDisk 2 GB SD card while you're there for 7 or 8 bucks (I forgot exactly how much the circular said it was).

This is the best Black Friday EVAR... that I can think of. Oh, not for anything directly connected to the Wii. No. I mean wirelessly connected. Like this $9.99 (with $10 mail-in rebate) wireless keyboard AND mouse that I got at Radio Shack and that I'm using RIGHT NOW on my brother's Wii and internet channel! It is so silky smooth and I didn't even need to sync it up to the USB receiver like the instructions said! *swoon* Only one per household though. Uses 2 AA batteries too, which is perfect since I use AA rechageables for my wiimotes. ... Hmmmm... A little flimsy. Maybe this board won't last that long over extended use... we'll see. TEN BUCKS!
*This post brought to you by the Wii Internet Channel and the Labtec Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Media Center 800 Combo.

Well not sure if this is a deal or a booby trap, but Amazon.com is currently selling Cruis'n for the low (or high) price of $14.99.
Kairon, I'm sure this is good news for you
