Some of the Mii's created in the comments section are really impressive. Too bad my attempt turned out ghastly.

EDIT: Hmm... well not to be the odd one out, here is a real picture of me circa five years ago (sunburnt with my trademark Joker grin I might add) that I'm just going to lift off my site as I'm too lazy to scan in a more recent one:

Yeah that is my senior picture, I do not like having my picture taken often though (in fact I hate it!) . I have another on my myspace.com account as well (the link is in my profile).

Oh and Evan you look a lot like my little brother.

I tried to make something that looks like my avatar on the left there. Of course they didn't exactly have that crazy Robert Smith hair that I had going on then.

But close enough.

Title: RE: Try out the Mii channel before the Wii releases

Because Jay Leno's mind control beams have subtly influenced all the Mii part designers to give the Mii his chin.  First Mii then U and then the World!!!

So Arbok, your pic link is screwed up, but it inspired me to inspect Toho Kingdom after ignoring your sig for ages. Why didn't you tell me you were into Kurosawa and other Japanese filmmakers? For goodness my gracious.
Title: RE:Try out the Mii channel before the Wii releases
Post by: Michael8983 on October 04, 2006, 04:19:13 AM

(I apologize for the poor quality of the real pic, trust me my real skin tone is about that of the Mii)

It's not bad at all. Some of the options need to be fleshed out more and downloadable updates are a MUST for the REAL Wii Channel. With the body sizing option I think it's Mii alright. I'm WAY slimmer than the default size. I think just about anyone who knows me would match me with my Mii (anyone following mii?) if it were placed among all the others on this thread.

But is it me or are some of the eye options incredibly, INCREDIBLY wrong? Maybe I'm just being my over-sensitive uber-liberal self.

Oops, forgot my own hotlinking protection... I guess because I don't often link to my own images from other sites very often.

The opportunity rarely comes up on any forum, PGC included... ;-)

But yeah, Japanese cinema as a whole tends to interest me, although I'm much more into their live action films then animation, which tends to be a rare preference.

I am soooo taking this thread off-topic:

I'm just very into Kurosawa: just got the new Seven Samurai DVD from Criterion, it is so sweet. My other faves include Throne of Blood and Yojimbo (praying for a Yojimbo/Sanjuro boxset soon!). I mainly follow Criterion as a way to branch out into other directors, so the only other Toho films I'm really interested in are the Samurai trilogy and Onibaba - also of course the original restored Godzilla, which I hear is not a very good DVD (according to both you and DVDBeaver).

Yes, I love that set. Criterion really did a fantastic job restoring that film and I was so happy when the first scene came up and it wasn't plagued by a ton of print damage.

Oh, nice choices. I also love "Throne of Blood" and "Yojimbo", which is my second favorite Kurosawa film behind "Seven Samurai". I overall tend to prefer his older films as opposed to his newer, 1980's and beyond productions, although "Ran" is a fantastic film. "Ikiru" along with "High and Low" are some others ones that I very much enjoy from Kurosawa, and the only one that wasn't quite my cup of tea (although I wouldn't say I disliked it by any stretch) is the "Lower Depths".

Yeah, Criterion does a good job of picking some of the cream of the crop from Toho's vast library of films. I love Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai trilogy, especially the first although that seems to be an unpopular preference in that regard. The current region 1 discs for those films aren't so hot, though, and I really wish Criterion would spring for an enhanced release sometime in the near future.

Speaking of other Criterion titles, have you ever seen Kihachi Okamoto's "Sword of Doom" or Masaki Kobayashi's "Samurai Rebellion"? Those are another two, non-Kurosawa, gems from Criterion.

It's not bad I guess, I was just really disappointed with the video quality, especially the cropping at the top. Someone really needs to restore that film.

Post by: Svevan on October 04, 2006, 08:03:47 PM
I did see Sword of Doom and thought it was, well, very violent. I loved the very serious, almost strained drama in between fights. The end of the movie is a tour through hell, and in the end I think I do hold the movie in high regard. I will be sure to check out Samurai Rebellion, I was going to try to see everything in that boxset.

Edit: Forgot to say that I agree with you about The Lower Depths. It has substance I guess, and a great ending, but a little bit too much of Kurosawa's typical loud over-dramatic performances.
