Title: Proof that Nintendo pwns Microsoft
Post by: vudu on September 26, 2006, 10:20:40 AM
Yesterday's IMDb.com poll asked which October release you're most looking forward to seeing?

Here are the results:

Please note that Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (featuring a kid with a DS) beat DOA: Dead or Alive (a movie rendition of an Xbox game featuring girls with big jugs) by a 13% margin.

On a completely unrelated note, Stan, please note that the #1 most anticipated movie coming out is The Departed, a Scorsese flick.

I assume you were talking about the game there, as the movie lacks said "big jugs"...

A shame IMDB polls don't mean jack squat in general, though... otherwise I would have expected Snakes on a Plane to actually do well (or at least moderate) at the box office.

Hey, the movie took in over $100K in the US box office.  That's not too shabby at all for such a film.  Plus, I expect it to do pretty well in the DVD rental market.

The film made WAY more than $100,000, which is nothing for a wide releasing film either. At last count, it was at $33 million in the United States, which is not great considering it cost $33 million to make and then another sum to market along with the fact that the studio will only see about 50-60% of that gross. It will of course make a profit on DVD, but that's not the ideal situation for any theatrical picture.

I'm fairly sad about that too as I generally wanted the picture to succeed, but oh well.

Shoot, I meant $100M, not $100K.  And I was wrong about that, too.  I made the mistake of thinking the totals were for each individual week instead of a running total.  Ah well.

From Wiki (Re: Snakes on a Plane): As of September 16, 2006, the movie has generated approximately $50,407,371 worldwide.

While I'm sure the box office receipts on this move aren't enough to justify the effort put into it (at least, as far as the studio is concerned), the marketing (Books, Wall Calanders, CDs, etc) along with the (very likely) millions they'll make from the DVD.. I'm willing to bet we'll see a second movie in this series.

What? You mean more people are anticipating the DOA movie than the Animal Crossing movie? This is a tragedy of epic proportions.

More like "Proof that Martin Scorsese pwns everybody and if he gets robbed of the Oscar one more time I'm gonna kill Kevin Costner and Robert Redford and deliver their Oscars to their rightful owner."

Goodfellas >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dances With Wolves

Raging Bull >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ordinary People

I wouldn't be surprised if Scorsese's films never net him an Oscar, which would eventually lead to their token "Life Time Achievement" award, aka their "oops, we passed up your best films and some of cinema's best offerings... umm... here ya go".

Same thing happened to Akira Kurosawa, whose films only won technical awards like "best costumes". Honestly, though, you could fill several topics about all of the "injustices" that have gone on since the Oscars started.

wandering, there IS a movie called Snakes On A Train.  (I think it's a recent B-movie that was released straight to video/DVD that's not an official sequel, but made to capitalize on SoaP.)

Or did you already know that?

Interest will remain tentatively unchanged until degree of bigness is determined.

Well I think the pictures speak for themselves:

Oddly enough I got these from the Weinstein company too (for what ever reason I was put on their press release send out list for my site...), which I only mention as their press release with it made me laugh after looking at the pictures:

"Check out these HOT stills of Jaime Pressly and the other girls from DOA: Dead Or Alive: [link removed]
Let me know when you post…remember DOA: Dead Or Alive out in theatres OCTOBER 20.

Thanks! "

Where are the hot girls?  Those girls aren't that cute at all.  They look like regular people and from the pictures it looks like a movie that was made in someones back yard.
Just from that press stuff alone you have to pay me to see that movie.

(Oh, Bill is right none of those look appealing.  Now when they mean in 3d for Nightmare before Christmas do the mean that they just redid the footage from the original in a way that it can seen in 3D in the Imax and at Digital Projection Theaters(I saw Chicken Little in 3D that way.  It was great.  The best part was because it wasn't designed for the 3D stuff it wasn't sparkling innovationy)?)
