Title: Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
Post by: JonLeung on September 21, 2006, 09:50:48 AM
N-Sider.com has a handy "Nintendo Wii Calculator", to easily figure out how much you'll spend on launch day.
Here is the American version. Here is the Canadian version.
(If this is accurate, looks like I have to save up $513.99. That's in Canadian dollars, with 6% tax, and includes a second WiiPointer, second Nunchuk, two Classic Controllers, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and 2000 WiiPoints. Splitting the cost with my brother, that's almost exactly $257. Not bad.)
EDIT: If the price doesn't update when adding/subtracting games, choose a different tax rate and then reselect the proper one.

God, is that really the final launch lineup?

I sure hope you said that in a positive manner, because there are five games on there that I want for sure and 2 on the "maybe" list... =\

It estimates me at ~ 900 dollars ($890.01) including tax since I didn't include the Gamecube Zelda and rechargable batteries... and apparently I've been assuming an 8.5% sales tax instead of the 7.5% they have listed for CA.
Edit: call me a casual gamer NOW, I dare ya!

I will pay what I need to pay. I have over 6000.00 I can readily get my hands on. =D (though I will probably only buy a system, extra controller set, Zelda, and maybe Rayman and another game) Unless I get a bundle then I will pay whatever it takes to get Wii-ed.

You can get everything on that list for around $1900 (depending on your tax)

$713 Canadian Tire dollars to let my friends play with my Wii...I need to save about $390 still.

Wii + remote + Zelda + 7.75%tax = $366.35
Even though I have it and it works fine, I was thinking of getting Mario World. It is just a great game with wide appeal, not to mention a nostalgic factor going for it that Wii Sports doesn't have.
edit fuzzy math

I would think my total falls into the $4-500 range. Planning on getting 4 games, but impulse buying may consume me.

Hah, I'd like to see Sony fanboys spend that much and get as much as I will be getting out of it. I think with that they can only get the system and maybe like a useless accessory like a faceplate, lol.

If I actually got what I want I would push 750 bucks after Tax...
And that's...
System 3 Remotes 3 Nunchucks 4 Classic Controllers (Why does it only go up to 3 in the calculator?)
Twilight Princess Monkey Ball Raving Rabbids
I probably wouldn't get any VC points at launch because I don't have any games I want to play right away on there when I have all the new games to check out.
Argh I'm still so ticked about the price of controllers.

Title: RE: Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?

$496.74 (Recalculated with real NY tax - 8%)
System 1 Remote + 1 nunchuk Zelda Excite Truck Red Steel
Man I wish Wii Play would come out state side. I would buy that instead of the standalone controller and then buy just the nunchuk. I might wind up spending more if I get lucky and can sell a PS3 on ebay for a boatload of cash. In that case I'd probably pick up Monkey Ball, Rayman and Far Cry as well. Not sure how Elebits is lookign but if reviews say good things I might have to check that one out too.

I'm firmly at zero... I can't justify the purchase if Zelda's the only launch title I have even a passing interest in.

Hmmm. Probably just Wii + Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (assuming it's available at launch in the UK), so about £215 GBP. Got a fair amount of credit from trading in my Cube a while back so won't have to stump up that much cash hopefully. That comes out at about $400 USD.

FYI, if you check every box on the page, select the highest number from every drop down menu and choose the highest sales tax (California - 7.25%) the total is $1940.84. Just in case anyone cared.

What I want (within reason) comes to: $724.38
What I'll be able to afford comes to: $356.97
I need to find some cash so I can get EXCITE TRUCK at launch, because as of right now Zelda is my only game =S
Title: RE: Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?

What I want (without reason) comes to about $950. (4 full controllers, trauma center, red steel, elebits, rayman, excite truck, madden, metal slug, super monkey ball, zelda, 2000 wiipoints.)
What I'll probably actually be getting comes to about $400 (1 wiimote, 1 nunchaku, 1 Legend of Zelda: Twilight princess, 2000 Wiipoints.)

$328.57 but it's wrong. I can't find the thread where we all listed what we though we were going to pay for the Wii. Mines probably higher then this since I added component cables. Also they use 6% for sales tax here in Tennessee. No place uses that. It's all at 9.something percent my case it's 9.25% in say Nashville its 9.75% if memory serves.
Ok redid it. I got 309.97 Plus tax $340.20 Then Component $54.88(max cost with tax added) alright my total comes to $395.08.
Heres what I got:
The Wii bundle RRR TP Wiimote/Nunchuku Component Cables
Time to go put that in my budget.

I am looking at $403.70 minimum.
1 Game, 1 Extra controller (Full with classic attachment) 1 Wii
and I will either get another classic attachment or something else.
I need to know, if the classic controller works with Gamecube games though. I wish somebody knew the answer to that.

Quote Why would anyone need 4 classic controllers?
For multiplayer N64 games?
Those Canadian controller prices are really fair - are they confirmed? The only thing I remember confirmed was the console price at $280 and that 2000 Wii Points would be $24.
My unrealistic estimate is coming to nearly $800, but I've budgeted $550 CDN for the launch..

Yeah, they are only using state tax - most every county has additional tax and most every city has one as well. I will spend about $500. I am glad that they have a pretty large selection for launch but since I've been kind of MIA - I was surprised at the first party games have been pushed back. Wii Wiimote + Nunchuk LOZ Red Steel Madden 07 (First Madden game ever! I'm actually pretty excited)
Title: RE:Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
Post by: Edfishy on September 21, 2006, 03:30:46 PM
Apparently I'm paying somewhere around $614.69
I have five other siblings, so it's going to cost me $180 alone in extra controllers. The only games I'm willing to pay $50 a piece for is Excite Truck(It's pushing it), Marvel: Ultimate Aliance(X-Men: Legends was a bundle of fun for my siblings and I), and Zelda: Twilight Princess.
I'm going to wait for some of the more harder-to-find games like Vigilante 8, Darius Twins, Life Force, and Uniracers before I start dishing out the money for VC games.
Title: RE:Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?
Post by: Djunknown on September 21, 2006, 05:04:23 PM
I'm clocking in at 455.75
The Wii 1 controller and attachment Zelda and Red steel 2000 wii points
Metal slug anthology for 50? C'mon now, its a compilation for cripe's sake. $30 should the maximum. Oh well.
I'm definately picking up Component cables so that'll be 20-30 right there as well.
I'll most likely trade in my cube/GB player, 2 controllers, 2 mem cards, and 15-20 games. That should soften the blow a bit at launch.
I guess this begs a dumb question: Are 'Cube controllers interchangeable with the Wii's classic controller? That could save a little cash...

For now:
$436.75 Wii Classic Controller Zelda Rayman Red Steel
What I'd add if I could:
Wiimote Nunchuck Trauma Center MonkeyBall Excite Truck
Setting me back: $655.10

I just realized this...
Everyone is talking about spending over 180 dollars on extra controllers, but outside Wii sports and Red Steel, what other game at launch boasts a fun and diverse multiplayer experience?
We don't even know if the multiplayer in Red Steel will be worth. and the multiplayer in other games don't seem to be that interesting.
What else is there in terms of multiplayer?

$540.43. I am getting one extra remote, excite truck, zelda, elebits and red steel. No one else is showing elebits any love? While I at first balked at spending so much money I really did feel better when I realized that that is not even enough to buy a ps3.

It looks like I will be spending $1236.67(CAD): Wii, 1 remote, 1 nunchuk, 2 classic controllers, 2000VC points, Zelda TP, Red Steel, Rayman, Trauma Centre, Madden 07, Monkey Ball, Excite Truck, Dragon Ball, Metal Slug, and 2 games (NFS Carbon, Tony Hawk) that are pending.

so I would end up expending 359.96. Even if Nintendo keeps its the prices here at the same conversion rate (which wont happen) is still way out of my budget, so not wii for me this year.
Title: RE: Wii Calculator - how much will you spend?

Nobody should walk around Wii-less! Just go for the $250 box with WiiSports. You'd get all of the Wii Channel features, backwards compatibillity with the GameCube, and could just update your library as you go.
That or wait until next summer when Nintendo drops the price by $50.

I used to go to the apple store or dell and max out a pc just to see how high I could go. I think I broke 10K once on an Apple box.
Looks like the max is $1940.84 for the Wii (assuming the games are available ...).

Edfishy, I'm with you I want some Uniracers! I'd also like some Rockn'Roll Racing, Turtles in Time, and a whole other heap of goodies. I'm totally prepared to pay up $8 bucks for those games.
I'm worried for my budget though, cause i may end up spending hundreds of dollars on Virtual Console games. Good thing i still have most of my old classics. I had to give up my SNES to get a N64 so there is a ton of SNES games I'll be getting.

To be honest, my initial Wii expenses aren't going to be as dramatic as I had thought. The only game that I want for sure on the launch list is Rayman. I've sort of been waffling on whether or not I want Twilight Princess; I want to be wowed by grahpics the first time I try out my new system, so it's kind of hard for me to justify purchasing a spiffy-looking Gamecube game. I'm still hoping that the Wii version will be perceptibly prettier than the Gamecube version, but I'm not banking on it.
So, as it stands...$334.37.
Please, no one quote the interior of my comment and then suggest that I buy a PS3 instead. The Wii is more than capable of making beautiful graphics. I'm just not sure that Twilight Princess is going to sport beautiful graphics.

If those game prices are converted 1:1 to € then I'm paying 299.98€ but games will most likely cost 60€ so it'd be ~310€.
I've picked the Wii and Zelda (no additional controllers), I'd add Metal Slug Anthology if it was 30€ or less.
Not sure I'd really buy that at launch, the lineup doesn't look too interesting but without reviews there's of course not much that can be said about it.

$446.19 for me. That doesn't count my 10% discount at Wal*Mart though. Or the extra 10% I'll get off one item, assuming we get that coupon soon enough this year. So it looks like I'm looking at $375.07. Yay for discounts!

Don't let ubisoft's bullshots fool you. According to Pale (in the latest PGC podcast) Rayman is looking an awful lot like a GameCube game. There's no way it will be prettier than Twilight Princess.

I hope you're right. I WANT to buy Zelda right away (I'll wind up buying it eventually, no matter what), but I'd like my first experience with the Wii to be really special. I remember my initial reaction to playing each Nintendo system for the first time (from the NES to Gamecube), and I want to be able to catalogue my Wii reaction under "memorable" as well. If Twilight Princess DOES sport the slickest graphics of the Wii launch, I hope it's because it looks great, instead of the other games looking, well...not-great. Here's hoping!

$429.94 is my total. I have no tax since I live outside the States but I'll have to add shipping! And my bundle will include: - the Wii (DUH!), - 1 extra nunchuk + wiimote - 1 retro controller - Zelda - TP - Red Steel
I'm not sure if I should buy another extra nunchuk + wiimote, maybe if Nintendo releases the Wii Play game that includes the "free" wiimote.

29th of December will be our 5th Annivesary...and I am 27 years old.
Unfortunately for me, since I am still in school she makes more money than me. So I really can't argue with her.
Though at least my birthday is BEFORE launch...so I can either get controllers if they are released early, or ask for a gift card or something.
All I really wanted was to have a big Wii bash for my Birthday, and Nintendo kinda screwed me over with that Nov. 19th launch...but in all honesty I knew it would happen.

My younger brother is so happy, his birthday's on the 21st of November. He had a GC launch Birthday 5 years ago and he's having a TP launch B-day this year. ... AND he has my copy of Rocket Sline for at least the next two foreseeable weeks. Lucky sod.

My wife and I are "newlywed", 3 months. In fact her birthday is tomorrow. I'm 23 and still in school. My wife also is the one who has a real job... but I still seem to be the one paying for everything.. At least I got to pre-order a Wii and Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Seems like we are in the same boat.
I think "newlywed" lasts for at least 1-2 years if I remember correctly.

I wish I had a girlfriend.
But the girl I like, she doesn't mind me ranting about games all the time. I got her excited about the Wii, and though she's very often too busy with school, she says she'll make time to come over one day and play with my Wii! >_>

My wife stops me mid-sentence if I talk about the Wii.
When friends are over, she rolls her eyes and acts embarrassed...or makes a Wii joke.
I still go around asking people if they want to play with my Wii in November. Surprisingly, I get alot of Yes's....from men.
EEK!!!

I found out I am getting 2 extra controllers for my birthday. So Now that opens me up to get another game.
Here is my dilema. I want Zelda, but both Monkey Ball and Red Steel look amazingly fun. I am almost tempted to buy those two games and wait on Zelda...but how can I do that? Its freaking Zelda and you know that game will absolutely amazing. So I am left questioning what I should do.
Seriously, the Wii has one of the strongest and best launch lineups of games I personally want to play than any other system.
Zelda Monkey Ball Wii Sports Red Steel Metal Slug Anthology Excite Truck
And I want to at least rent before I am interested in: Madden Trauma Center

Interesting this thread comes up again. This is what I want now.
System (250) 3 Controllers (180) Zelda (50) Rayman (50) Monkey Ball (50) 4 Classic Controllers (80 or 200 if they have a similar deal as in Japan)
That puts me at 660 - 780 plus tax. Eesh.

Looking at your list I'd say hold off on buying Metal Slug and go with both Monkey Ball and Red Steel. I'm sure there will be plenty of games on the VC that will satisfy your 2D gaming needs at launch.

Pale > You forgot the component cables, unless I am wrong in thinking that you had an HDTV.
Spak-Spang > If I were in your situation I would definitely delay my purchase of either Metal Slug or Excite truck. Zelda, Monkey Ball, and Red Steel would be my prioiities.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think my post was confusing. The only three games I am debating is to get two of the following: Zelda, Monkey Ball, Red Steel.
The others were just comments saying that there is still more I want to get.
Honestly I am leaning towards getting two great multiplayer games, because sometimes you want to just play a silly minigame multiplayer and sometimes you want a long session of killing eachother...so, I really think I can hold off till Christmas for Zelda.

That's okay, if he doesn't buy Zelda, then there'll be another copy available somewhere for someone else who can actually appreciate Zelda.

I appreciate Zelda. I want the game. I am just trying to get the best multiplayer games to convert people...and I may get money for my B-Day to get another game...then I will definately pick up Zelda.
Don't crucify me yet.

lol, Ceric, Spak. I'm in the same boat. In some other thread I was complaining about it. My wife (2 years for me, still newlyweds) said no to the Wii. Apparently, though, she wasn't really serious. When I mentioned it again the other day, she said, "Well, of course you're getting it at launch, aren't you?" and I was like, "Psh, yeah!"
I also have to buy an extra controller for her so we can play Tennis together
Really, though, that's what it should be like, since I'm the one pulling in the paychecks while she's in school. I'm the bread-winner, but it wouldn't bother me if she takes over that title after she graduates (and she probably will)... THEN she can tell me I can't have my Wii 2 in 5-6 years

Damn, I'm looking at spending over $740 with my local 8.25% sales tax. -Wii -1x Wiimote -1x Nunchuck -1x Retro controller -Excite Truck -Elebits -Metal Slug Anthology -Rayman -Red Steel -Zelda -Trauma Center
However I also want to try Madden, Tony Hawk, Monkey Ball, Far Cry, and Blitz. Might just rent those from work though after a couple weeks or so when they are free for me.
