Title: Were the technical specs officially revealed by Nintendo?

I was reading IGN's latest information page on Wii and they seem to indicate that Nintendo did confirm the specs for Wii. Maybe I missed something but I could have sworn the specs are still in "unofficial" territory yet IGN makes no mention of that here. Personally it doesn't matter much to me but if they were not officially revealed isn't that being unprofessional to list them without a disclaimer?

They never have, and they never will.  So said Nintendo last year:

Although there is a small possibility that everything out there is incorrect, what IGN has in their FAQ is more than likely to be accurate.  It's just that they didn't get that information directly from Nintendo.  They should have noted that in their article, because it's important for people to know the specs were obtained through a third party source, and therefore can have some degree of unreliability.

At some point after the Wii is available to consumers, couldn't some techie geek hacker disassemble a Wii and figure the specs out?

It's probably not trivial. Since the interesting stuff is custom chips, you'd need to have a look at the silicon under a microscope to try and figure out what it does (e.g. like Hans de Vries does for CPUs).

I could have sworn I saw updated specs last week.  I'll have to dig around and see if I can find them.  Not that the specs matter much anyway.

Still, always nice to see another set. Hopefully they're not simply cut+pasted from the IBM 750CL crib sheet again - I long for the days when we could believe the leaks offering 103 PowerPC 970's with a Jigabyte of RAM and Gods own GPU constructed of pure kryptonite

Isn't that EVEN BIGGER than a Jigabyte? You'd need a bloody great lightning strike for one of those Jigglepuffs, they probably have a special factory...

MUCH bigger. infact, with 1.21 jigglepuffs you could power a time machine

Look, all we need is some plutonium...

I'm debating whether I dare take my Wii apart when I get it (assuming my local Gamestation gets 20 of the things, I pre-ordered a bit late and I'm way down the queue). I'm dying to know what's inside but I'm not sure just looking at the innards will tell me much.

If I can get two or more Wiis (depends on availability and on making mucho bucks from PS3), I might take one apart as a mod project and maybe I'll take some pictures.
