Title: The One Question ...
Post by: RickPowers on September 14, 2006, 08:50:05 AM
So obvious Wii will ship in only White.  OK, I can deal.  But Nintendo is expecting us to create a "Mii" and download it to our own personal Wii-mote.  So are they going to ship the Wii-mote in different colors so my wife and I can tell ours apart when they're sitting on the coffee table?

Hopefully. I'd also settle for skins.

Oh mans, I am gluing macaronis to mine.

And sprinkles!

Perhaps we can get Casey to chew them into distinctive patterns.

Macaroni and sprinkles?  Psh.  Metallic purple spray paint.

I'm putting that on the macaronis, bitch!

Paint the controller purple, and paint the macaroni pink. O:

Oh man, my dog would so NOT be a good smoogie woogie boy if he chewed a Wiimote.

You can find "His" and "Her" wrist straps from places that sell digital camera accessories, etc.

Or keychains with coiled cable.

Go nuts!

Identifying yourself by your controller kind of clashes with the old "come on over to my house to play games" method of doing things.  Unless you're a loner a single controller is going to routinely get used by several people.  No one is going to bring their own controller over if you already have four of them for example.  This is kind of like Nintendo's fantasy world where everyone owns a GBA and a Cube link cable for connectivity games, though thankfully on a much smaller scale.

I also think it would be nicer to not bother with this Mii bullsh!t in exchange for controllers that don't cost more than a game.  Ditch any download stuff regarding the controller since none of it makes any practical sense anyway and transfer those savings into the price.  Ditch the speaker too if it can get the remote/nunchuk combined to $40 or under.

Agreed in full.

$180 for 3 extra Red Steel-capable controllers is nearly as much as the cost of the system.

I'm not crazy about the price either but does it have to fester into every thread?

Tell us how you're going to pimp your magic fun stick. Make it up if you must.

I assume that stuff like the speaker and internal memory don't cost much. They're features that will make people go 'oh! look at this high tech! this is worth alot of money!' while being pretty trivial to implement.

I think you'll be suprised how much the speaker will do for the Wii, btw. It'll turn the heads of people who couldn't even begin to care less about costly high-def graphics.

I agree with this as well. There is already a thread discussing Nintendo's pricing decisions.

I know people are annoyed by the pricing decision, but to keep it dragging in all the threads is annoying.

I don't mind a white console, but I really wish the controller was black (or at least a dark color).  I'm fairly anal about keeping my stuffin good condition and I know a white controller is going to get dirty (despite my best efforts, my Wavebird is starting to show signs of age).

My one question is where iS the official launch liSt for thAlso saying $180 for 3 confrollerS iS just dumb the whole point of the personal controller and their marketing is for everyone to bring their own I'm only buying 1 extra everyone elsecan either sit and watch or buy their own Wii. Props to Nintendo for giving people more reasonst buy their product like every business tries tO do

"the whole point of the personal controller and their marketing is for everyone to bring their own I'm only buying 1 extra everyone elsecan either sit and watch or buy their own Wii."

So you plan on having no friends, then?  If my friend told me to buy my own controller or even my own console I'd tell him to buy another friend.

That's silly Ian.

We all know you have no friends.

Nintendo has shown different Wii controller colors (admittedly, I believe they have also shown different Wii colors), and the Gamecube launch had different colored controllers (other than just the purple and black console colors), so I would expect the same for the Wii. I agree that I very much perfer to have uniquely colored controllers.

All my old friends told me to buy my own controller.

Ian, but you're all about yourself. You would tell him to buy another friend because it offends you that for you to have fun you'd actually have to buy something. How rude of him to not pay $60 so YOU can play! Typical Ian.

And if the internal memory adds more than a couple dollars to the price I'd be shocked. The Miis are a fun and unique way of doing things. People brought memory cards with them so they could use their saved characters all the time.
Title: RE: The One Question ...
Post by: KDR_11k on September 14, 2006, 11:22:59 AM
The personal data in the controller is simply a way to make bringing your user profile with you easier if you have a Wii yourself. Currently you need to bring a memory card along and possibly go through complicated maneuvers to get those profiles onto someone else's system.

I don't know what I'm going to do.  I need a black Wii.  I always get the black Nintendo console.

I definitely want a black controller though.  That looked bad-ass.

The black Wii is not bigger, thicker, and more pleasureable than the white Wii.

That's just a myth.

Post by: wandering on September 14, 2006, 12:21:48 PM
In this case I wanted black cause I think it looks better with the blue light. Black GameCube, though, was bleh. Black on slightly darker, shinier black. Indigo looked so much better.

Well if it was a play off of the cryptographicly lased Nintendo press release, I at least noticed that. I'm not going to bother to decrypt the word jumble though.

LOL

and most people seem to have missed the fact that you can save multiple Miis (maybe profiles as well?) ob the Wiimote...so maybe sharing the wiimote isn't THAT hard

Geez, we're just talking about different colours here. All my GameCube controllers are different colours anyway because I wanted to be able tell them apart, even though they didn't have stored data in them. If Wii controller colours are all the same at launch I might just wait a while.
Title: RE: The One Question ...
Post by: Caliban on September 14, 2006, 09:31:32 PM
Or you could just look at which number at bottom-side of wiimote is lit up, come to a consensus (I'm 1, you're 2), and that's that, problem solved.

Screw lights next to numbers, I want a personalized remote. O:
Title: RE: The One Question ...
Post by: Hostile Creation on September 15, 2006, 09:00:49 AM
I'd hope they'd launch with black, because I'd be all over that.  If not, I'll probably just end up getting a white and getting a black if that one ever messes up or something.
As for controllers, yes, we share them.  But my friend and I (the two owning Gamecubes) each have a controller that we consider our own.  We share the others, and we allow others to use ours when we're not playing, but those two controllers are our favored controllers, and we always play against each other using those.
So I'd like a black one for that, but I'm afraid they won't release in black initially.  And I want it as early as I can get it.

Maybe it is, maybe it ain't, but how would I look with a white Wii? I know that at least I would be unsatisfied and thats enough to make me wait till I can get a black one.

And as far as controllers go, I hope they atlest release those in different colors.

Who's kidding? I did it with my GBA:SP and DS. My SP has a Samus theme and my DS has a Rikku (FFX) theme.

I found these printable stickers at Staples that were water proff and they work great for things that you hold onto.

lol Cap.  I'm going to do the protective shell of my phone with the Wii VC Picture we had a while back with all the characters.

I don't think I could bring myself to skin my Wii.  Even though it needs to be Indigo.  All my Systems I could get in Indigo at launch are Indigo.

Hmm...now that's a nice way to make the Wii black, except you really can't make a good sticker for the nunchuk controller.
