Title: DS touch screen accuracy problems
Post by: Jensen on September 08, 2006, 03:48:32 PM
I used the edge of a credit card to draw straight lines on the screens of two DS Systems. It was a bit easier to line up on the DS lite because of its straighter hinge. (the spacing of the lines is irrelevant)
The image on the left is my DS lite. The lines have 13 pixels of curvature in some places. My original DS has only about 2 pixels worth of vertical deviance. I also made lines going the other direction, but there were no problems with either screen.
It is hard to hit smaller touch targets with the Lite. Does anyone else have this problem?
I may trade in my DS because of this (and use the recently cracked hinge as an excuse, if I have to)

I've never really noticed anything with mine.

It might be because the ds has diffrent type of touch screens, one might be the grid type and other might be grainy type so it might not be the lite, or your hand slip while drawing....

The Lite has the grid screen, the old one has the grainy screen. My hand definately didn't slip though. And I'm not trying to imply that it is an issue that just effects just the Lites.

Only the very first phats had the grainy screen. You'd be hard pressed to find one.

My phat was recent enough that it didn't come with the Metroid demo. I got it the week that Mario Kart DS came out.

Did you try the touch screen calibration thingy-ma-bob? Turn your DS on and go into settings, then touch the yellow box with the cross-hair type thing on it. See if that helps with your straight line drawing...

Yes, I calibrated them.

What are grid versus grainy screens?

The grid screens have a very faint array of dots covering them. (just the touch screen)
