Title: I canceled my xbox live account and they tried to charge me anyway
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on August 12, 2006, 04:42:31 PM
So I have an extra xbox live account I was trying to cancel before it automatically renewed. You actually can't cancel it through your xbox menu or the xbox live site, you have to call a live rep who then tries to talk you out of it. I told him I'm leaving the country and I already have another account, and he started asking if I wanted to give it to any friends or relatives. Jesus christ no!

So I cancel it. Over the phone. I get a cancel confirmation number, too.

Then I get this email a couple days later.

BURRNNNN. This is why when I get enough money for xbox live I'll just get one of those fancy subscription cards so I don't have to deal with those goons at microsoft.

You must be leaving India he thought and moving to America.  Because all those Tech Support people who are on the line with bad connections that could only really happen going overseas are operated out of Georgia USA.  Thought you were using and allias country and you English has just gotten that good.

No. I made it very clear I was going to be in a different hemisphere. But that shouldn't matter anyway, I wanted my account canceled.

I just got my credit card bill and they figured out how to charge me anyway. I just called the credit card company and disputed the charge.

I hate talking on the phone, so whenever I get around to getting a Xbox360 (when a game of substance comes out) I won't bother with Live!

We had a similiar experience back in the day, except replace 'xbox live account' with '30 day AOL free trial'. Good times, good times.

MS customer support probably draws from the lowest rungs of the educational ladder, the kind that doesn't even know there are other countries besides the USA.

You will still need a credit card to activate your Live account.

You will still need a credit card to activate your Live account.

Which might explain why i wasn't that successful outside of the US.

I have to cancel my live account soon.  I am not looking forward to these problems.

While I enjoyed playing on Live when I look back I see what a waste of money it was.  I shouldn't have settled for having to pay because the games played just like PC games except they cost money.  I just hate the principle of paying money that I shouldn't have to.  What does MS do with the money from Live, pay off the huge losses they make selling consoles?

They probably invest it into infrastractures costs.  (Live and general Internal.)

Well Rhoq on 360 you have the option of credit card payments or just buying a prepayed subscription card for xboxlive.
