Male mantis can indeed copulate without a head, I saw a documentary and the scene was funny, cool and creepy at the same time, but it has been reported that mantis can mate avoiding the death of the male, in captivity all males die so it was thought that the same happened naturally, but some biologists have seen males who manage to scape. I personally think its the repression factor of the past, when children were forced to go right-handed, we'll have to wait another century though to corroborate that.
