Title: Did You Know...!?
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on August 08, 2006, 07:59:30 PM
Did you know...
If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it.)
If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb (Now that's more like it!)
The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood! 30 feet. (O.M.G.!)
A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (In my next life, I want to be a pig.)
A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death. (Creepy.) (I'm still not over the pig.)
Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. (Do not try this at home...... maybe at work.)
The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off ! ("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!")
The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. (30 minutes... lucky pig... can you imagine??)
The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)
Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)
Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I always wanted to know.)
The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. (Hmmmmmm........)
Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)
Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. (OK, so that would be a good thing....)
A cat's urine glows under a black light (I wonder who was paid to figure that out?)
An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain (I know some people like that.)
Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.)
Polar bears are left-handed. (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer.)
Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (What about that pig??)
(no seriously, a 30 minute orgasm O.O!!! I think I would die from over stimulation and dehydration)

*Sees pig orgasming*
"I'll have what he's having"
What a wierd list BnK. Where the hell did you find this one?
Oh, and by the way, your comments cracked me up.

Fun factoid from Wikipedia: "In captivity, female mantids have been observed to cannibalise males attempting copulation. The female may start feeding by biting off the male’s head (as with any prey), and if mating had begun, the male’s movements may become even more vigorous in its delivery of sperm. Early researchers thought that because copulatory movement is controlled by ganglion in the abdomen not the head, removal of the male’s head was a reproductive strategy by females to enhance fertilisation while obtaining sustenance. Later, this bizzare behaviour appeared to be an artifact of intrusive laboratory observation, but it turned out that it also occurs in the field."
I couldn't find anything about the sex life of a pig, and before today, I never would have thought I'd want to try.

You probably don't really want to know. It involves lots of fish, biological processes, and gravity.

I could swear I saw on a documentary that chimps do, too.
edit:wandering is trying to take over Pale's thread locking reputation!

...and in the Tyrannosaurus Rex from Jurrassic Park!
As for the pig thing, is it actually ejaculating that whole time? Am I allowed to write the word ejaculating on the Internet?

You are correct, and our old science teacher used to love to bring up the Bonbo to address that point, which is how I recalled it:
"Our closest living primate relatives, the Bonobo chimpanzees, share 98.4% of our DNA. The Bonobos are notable for their lack of sexual inhibition, engaging almost constantly in the full variety of sexual acts humans do, including frequent masturbation. Significantly their social order is amazingly harmonious; the regular sexual satisfaction among them seems to minimize conflict and aggression." http://www.jackinworld.com/library/articles/history.html

Thank God! And thank you ARBOK for proving my point.
I keep tellin my girlfriend "Maybe if you regularly, like on an hourly basis, took care of my needs, we wouldn't argue so much!"
Of course, I was joking then.....but now.....I don't know.

Nothing will come of it. I joke around all the damn time. And some times, when I'm not joking, she'll still think I'm joking (which is good for me -- everybody out there with a girl on the side knows what i'm talking about).
So in a situation like this, I might actually be able to convince her to "harmonize the situation". While in the same situation, you might have to sleep on the couch.
I'm not hatin on you or anything. But it seems that we have different methods of conquest.
But seriously, I appreciate the other.

I laugh and all but I have to correct some things:
Male mantis can indeed copulate without a head, I saw a documentary and the scene was funny, cool and creepy at the same time, but it has been reported that mantis can mate avoiding the death of the male, in captivity all males die so it was thought that the same happened naturally, but some biologists have seen males who manage to scape. It appears though that its better if the female eats the male, since she will have enough food resources to produce healthy offspring.
About left handers theres this wikipedia paragraph:
"Statistics show that older people are less likely to be left-handed than their younger counterparts — the percentages of left-handed people sharply drop off with increased age. In America, 12% of 20 year olds are left-handed, while only 5% of 50 year olds and less than 1% of people over 80 are. These numbers are surprisingly divergent — how can they be explained?
A study (no longer deemed credible) published in 1991 claimed that these statistics indicate that left-handed peoples' lifespans are shorter than those of their right-handed counterparts by as much as 9 years. They explained this gap by asserting that left-handed people are more likely to die in accidents as a result of their "affliction," which renders them clumsier and ill-equipped to survive in a right-handed world.
Researchers now attribute most of the difference between the age groups to the fact that older people would be more likely to have experienced pressure to switch hands, a factor not affecting the younger generations. This is supported by the fact that more women than men switched hands, and women live longer than men. However, this reasoning cannot explain all variation, and "the case of the disappearing southpaws" remains a mystery.
Another theory is that some lefties switch hands later in life, due to conformist pressures, or a "biological imperative." It has also been suggested that the percentage of children born left-handed may have been increasing over time."
I personally think its the repression factor of the past, when children were forced to go right-handed, we'll have to wait another century though to corroborate that.
And I swear I read the strongest muscle was the one in the jaw, not the tongue, but I can't find any sources on that.
(yeah Im ruining the fun but at least Im not like Icecold! :P )

I've seen a show on chimpanzees which shows them having sex for pleasure, mainly female on female action since the males are basically loners and the females take care of the brood.

Did stevey just admit to cock-blocking pigs and adding insult to injury by eating them? Or did he admit to never putting out for pigs, I can't really tell..
