More Video Game Titles for the Revolutionary New Console on the Way in 2007
Paris, FRANCE – August 3rd, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it is preparing seven titles for the upcoming launch of Nintendo’s highly anticipated Wii™. In addition to previously announced titles Rayman Raving Rabbids™ and Red Steel™, both designed specifically for the Wii, Ubisoft will deliver Wii versions of driving game Monster 4X4 World Circuit, Sony Pictures Animation’s Open Season™, a game based on the popular Far Cry® franchise, Blazing Angels™ Squadrons of WW II and GT Pro Series, developed exclusively for the Wii by MTO. Ltd. With seven announced titles available at launch and with many more titles currently in development, Ubisoft expects to provide the richest third-party lineup for the Wii’s introduction and beyond with an exciting combination of new intellectual properties and established franchises.
“We’re thrilled that Ubisoft will be unveiling Wii versions of both exclusive new IP and established franchises," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer for Nintendo of America. “Bursting with creativity, innovation and unadulterated fun, these Ubisoft games embody the qualities that will make Wii a huge hit with gamers new and established, young and old."
“Media and analysts agree that Ubisoft has the greatest potential for reward with the new console’s launch because we believed in its potential from the beginning," said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. “With an impressive lineup of launch games that offer something for everyone, we are in a unique position to benefit from the Wii’s success in appealing to both new and hardcore gamers."

Laurent Detoc: You will be able to shoot using the remote; you will also be able to throw grenades, punch, jump, run and balance to keep from plunging to your death. You will also be able to drive cars, trucks and boats. If you're looking for a game that allows you to experience the true beauty of the Wii and its revolutionary remote technology, this is it.

IGN Wii: Are there online modes planned for any of these games using either Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or WiiConnect24?
Laurent Detoc: We will be able to provide more information on this feature for each of the new games soon.

Shouldn't the headline to this article read "Launch Window" instead of "Launch Day"? or did I miss something here?
QuoteActually I'm the one who originally quoted IGN this morning >HERE< and they said Launch window, not launch day.

I think IGN says something to the affect that it is for sure launch day and you aren't misreading it. So sounds like these games are coming out for launch day! I wonder how long they have been in development?
QuoteIt would be retarded for Ubisoft to release all those games on the launch day and have their own games competeing against each other for the same gaming dollars. It would be much more beneficial to spread out the titles over the first few months b4 Christmas and maximize the potential sales of each title by not making the go up against each other.

It has another five - yes, five games planned for Wii, and they'll all arrive in time for the platform's launch window.

I think Ubisoft is going a little more longterm with this. This is a great way to get our support early. Plus knowing that in the third party arena at least they have little competition and the lack of even real hints that these games where coming out I doubt they send something unpolished. Personally they'll probably keep these on the shelf for a while.

Very true, like the DoA series on Xbox.
Sega more or less made Sonic a Nintendo character at first. Shame they didn't stick with that plan...

That's what I mean, but then Sonic went all console and has since started to suck in terms of game quality.
What's even more of a shame is the fact that games like Toejam and Earl 3 went to the Xbox to die while they would have definitely survived on the GC.

EDIT: Sorry..
