Title: Partial Elite Beat Agents soundtrack revealed
Post by: Flames_of_chaos on July 31, 2006, 09:11:12 AM
On the bemani style forums there was a thread of a partial soundtrack for Elite Beat Agents here it is:

Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Eve 6 - Inside Out
Ricky Martin - Livin' la Vida Loca
Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply
Weird Al Yankovic - Hardware Store
Linkin Park - In the End
The Offspring - Hit That
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow
Kylie Minogue - Locomotion
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Barenaked Ladies - One Week

And EBA gets some features that was absent from Ouendan: Single cart multiplayer (there will also be the multicart multiplayer), you can send to other DSes the E3 demo version of EBA and a tutorial of how to play the game.

I was actually thinking of getting this game, but after looking at the PARTIAL song-list, I don't think I'm going to get it anymore.

Alternative rock really isn't my bag, baby.

I'm so happy I imported Ouendan.  I suggest you do the same.

You can do that with Ouendan as well. Is that all they listed for multiplayer?

Overall, the Ouendan multi was pretty weak: it was either vs. or co-op and they were basically just "play the song" or "play your part of the song".

You guys are being WAY too hard over Elite Beat Agents...

I love Ouendan to death and I too was shocked at the drastic overhaul the US version is recieving. But after watching a couple of videos and talking it over with friends I think Elite Beat Agents could bring something new, fun and unique to the table and establish itself as something other than "The US version of Ouendan".

I heard to the songs on iTunes and I can't wait to play them in EBA. I want to see what type of stories they come up with, especially for Vida Loca and "Hardware store".

So I suggest you guys drop the whole "Japanophile" act with EBA and GIVE IT A TRY. You guys love Ouendan, right? Ouendan was created by iNiS, and like most developers, they need money in order to create their wonderful games. If you want them to keep making games for Nintendo, I suggest you go out and show them your support cause they really deserve it and I want them to keep making games for Nintendo.

And yeah, to all the people dismissing EBA, I'm sure music with lyrics in a language none of us can understand are VASTLY superior.

Seriously, this is a good VARIETY of music. No matter what they picked, they'd have some group bitching up a storm about the song choices so they might as well select a wide variety and offer that.

The Japanese songs varied greatly as well, it's just that the lyrics were lost on American ears so it all fell under "Jpop" to us.

Oh wow, I came in here expecting to see a train wreck of songs like the upcoming Lumines 2, this is actually pretty good as long as you ignore a select few.

I didn't expect such a good song list.  I haven't heard of all of them but I can see most of these working extremely well, especially if they are matched to the right scenario.

I think the key to the game will be if they have the scenario and song fit well together.  That is certainly not something you can experience in songs with lyrics in a different language.

Ricky Martin - Livin' la Vida Loca > EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Why this sh!t?

Linkin Park - In the End > It's not that bad, at least they didn't put any of their icky new stuff.

The Offspring - Hit That > Never heard this one I think, but IMO Offspring is really fine by me.

Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow > WOW, just wow. I want them to put more of QotSA.

The rest I don't know who they are so meh to them, until I listen to them.

Deep Purple - Highway Star! FLIPPIN' AWESOME. The other songs lead me to believe this is fake though.

So what will be the equivalent of Ready Steady Go (the hardest song in the game, for those who haven't played it)?

EDIT:  In case anyone cares, you can pick up a new copy of Ouendan for only $45 w/ free shipping at yesasia.com.  That's about the best price I've seen.

I've been wondering this all the long.

I don't think any of these qualify as being worthy of the last level so I'm wondering which song it'll be.

There are a few Good Charlotte songs which sound ideal and have titles to match, such as "A New Beginning", "Movin' On" and "S.O.S". I'm hoping they do use a GC song since GC are apparently Nintendo fans and contributed a song directly to Donkey Konga 2 US and even starred in the commercial.

One other thing I wanted to mention to the EBA bashers is that the game is STILL being developed and supervised by iNiS, the game's original creators. It's not like Nintendo took the game away from them and gave them to another developer. Nintendo just wanted to make sure the game reaches an audience in the US, something that Ouendan may not be able to do.

Once again, before you knock the game because it isn't Ouendan, give it a try. You may even like it...

Jeez.......am I thie only one that doesn't like the song list? Seriously, no offense to any of you, but it's quite possibly the most generic american songs you could pick.

Seriously, where's the good sh!t?

Obviously, you lack the imagination of what they could do for stages with these songs.  Also, the game is already solidified as a success just by "Hardware Store" alone.

What did you expect? Obscure bands which very few have heard of but have a loyal fanbase?

They're going to sell a lot more copies if the game offers songs which people have, you know, heard of.

And yeah, the scenario is the other half of the equation here. Vida Loca may not be the most inventive song these days, but if used in the right scenario, it could fit the situation rather well and make for an interesting play.

I wish game companies wouldn't replace soundtracks with American Songs.

The Japanese Songs are always more interesting, and fit the themes of the game more.

At least release the American game with both Japanese and American Songs and let us chose what we want to play.

I say Boo!!

On the other hand though...it is funny to see a Wierd Al song on the list.

I'd like to see a Wii version called "Ouendan vs. the Elite Beat Agents" in which they have both song lists with subtitles for the songs and everything, sort of an "east meets west" and joining of the franchises.

But be realistic, EBA sales in the US would be sh*ttacular if it was filled with nothing but Jpop. Hell, Ouendan only sold around 70,000 copies in Japan with its all-Japanese soundtrack.

I'd rather this game have a fighting chance to sell enough copies to get a sequel than appeal to a select few Japanophiles and barely make its production costs back.

Agreed! I also hgihly prefer the Japanese song list (A bit of bias though, my msuic type of choice is Japanese music) But I also love DKonga 1's soundtrack...2 was a complete let down. Why is this? Donkey Konga's soudntrack was just plain good, plenty of tracks everyone could enjoy and get into. 2? Hope you have a strong like for rock because there isn't much for you here otherwise.

I'm lingering. In short, no REquiem, you aren't alone, not by a long shot.

That's not a convincing argument.  I could name many artists that have written, you know, better songs and yet people will instantly recognize them.

Furthermore, I bet they could make better situations based on those artists as well.

For example: Red Hot Chili Peppers

I could pick tons of songs that are better then the ones you would pick that would be instantly recognizable.  Don't be upset because the game isn't focused on your individual song preferences.

That's not the point though...

I'm talking about the localization team. It seems like all they did was search the internet with the query "most generic alternative rock," and picked from a list that popped up.

I'm surprised Avril Lavifhgnife isn't on that list -- oh wait...it's only the PARTIAL soundtrack so who knows!

Anyway, I am in no way dissing the game design (which I've heard is SUPERB). I just wish the music wasn't so bland...

This is arguing opinion. This is the epitome of pointlessness.

The list isn't particularly excellent, but it covers all the bases pretty well and that's the real end goal here.

Besides, Peppers may be in there. There are 3 songs still unrevealed, if it has the same number of stages as Ouendan (which isn't guaranteed, truthfully, it could have more or less).

If the songs fit the new story (and they do) then I can't see why any of you would have a problem with it.

That said, I played EBA at the Penny Arcade Expo, and immediately became a Must-Buy for me, when I showed no interest in it previously.  I'm really looking forward to it now.

Hmmm...I wonder if Europe will get a changed songlist for EBA, similar to Donkey Konga?  Probably not though, it would be much harder to rejig the songs based around a story than ones just added to drum to.  Can't wait for Locomotion, though - I hope it takes place on a train.

Locomotion? That's in the bargain bins. I don't think it implements signals which automatically makes it inferior to Transport Tycoon (if you've ever seen what people can do with signals you'd agree).

I dunno that song list reminds me too much of Donkey Konga 2 and it scares me.  I may just have to import Ouendan.

I'm not dissing the bands or anything, i still have a sweet spot for Offspring and well Weird Al almost makes you wish they made the whole game around his songs, it would be hilarious.  Anyone wanna start a comic book for it!

Well, I think it was Rick that said as long as the songs go along with the plot, that's the most important thing, and I think he's right.  I see the potential for some of these songs (even the ones I don't like) to work really well in the proper situation here.

Having said that, it would be nice to see developers approaching music liscencing with a more artistic approach in mind.  This game may not sell that well, but maybe it could sell even better on the strength of a really interesting soundtrack.

What about a Nintendogs-like setup where you start out with all Rap/Rock/Dance music, and you can unlock songs from the other genres and use them in-game as you wish?  That's too expensive for a game that's not guaranteed to be a hit, I guess.
