your second link is broken, but any news of nintendo getting more game for the Wii especially when they are pulled away from Sony is good news.

Indeed. I might give it a try.

And yes, formerly PS2-only franchises being yanked away from the PS3 is the worst sign imaginable for Sony. That's what was happening to the GC at the END of it's life, not the beginning.

This bodes so badly for the PS3 it ain't even funny...

Yep, Sony is really screwing the pooch next gen.  Hopefully the general public will finally see Sony as the biters and defunct format pushers they are!  WII60 FTW!

Welp... The second link doesn't work.  I'm more interested in the news that it will come for the Wii in some form.

According to Pixel Gamers, which one of your links names as a source, they have received confirmation that Devil May Cry will remain a PS3 exclusive.

*sighs*

I knew this was coming, but from Kairon, of ALL people?  I'm telling Bretai on you...

If you noticed, Kairon, the article you are referencing is dated January...the ones I am referencing are dated May....so if you do the math, and can process all things that are chronological in nature, I'm sure you will see the folly in your Phoenix Wright-esqe "OBJECTION!!"

Edit: Also, google the May 18th-ish Famitsu mag....it's in there too.

Who wants Devil May Cry anyways?

I mean, sure, the possibilities are intruiging, but this is nothing like losing GofW.

Losing GofW would be like Nintendo losing Metriod.  That's an actual Sony first party game.

Requiem, you are missing the point.  The flood gates are beginning to open here....Assassins' Creed, Dragon Quest 9 (possibly) and now this?  It not about like it or not (and I LOVE DMC 1&3, BTW)....it's the (by Sony's point of view) disturbing trend of once exclusive 3rd party franchises jumping ship.  Sony's ill gotten stranglehold on the videogame market is showing signs of faltering!....and THAT is something to cheer about!

Knoxx is correct: the confirmation of PS3 exclusivity came in January.

This announcement came from May, POST E3.

That should explain the reasoning right there...

Ahhh, I see...

So Capcom is jumping on the bandwagon as well, aye? I'd love to see a joint project between Nintendo and Capcom. I want a new IP. Something adventure prone but with scary moments. Something akin to RE, but faster because your not always threatened by evil. Instead, it would use the ultra-realism that is the wiimote to solve puzzles (like how to get across a lake or building a fire or scaling a wall).

Think Myst, Zelda, and RE all mixed together.

I just wonder if the Wii version will be the same game. Or if it's like an alternative version designed around the Wii-mote.
Either way how will it look up against the 360 version? Technically speaking the 360 version should look much better but, then again, quite a few 360 games look like Gamecube titles. So who knows.

Well, Capcom did spend a lot of time working with the GameCube, and pushed it with RE4. Since the Wii has a similar structure and is more powerful, I'm sure it will look really nice if they actually put some effort into it.

As far as Capcom goes, I want more PN03 - one of my all time favorite games ever. Unfortunately, since I think I'm pretty much the only person in the entire universe who feels this way, I guess I'm just destined to remain unfulfilled

It was one of my favorites too so you aint the only one, except we seem to be in the minority. It would realy be suited to the Wiimote too. Its one of the GCN games that will be kept and definately not traded.

It's nice to know I'm not in a minority of one!

I also think it would work pretty well on the Wiimote - the stop to shoot mechanic might work better than the complex control schemes we've seen where aim/look/move depend on position of pointer relative to center of the screen - but I daren't hold out much hope of ever finding out

A sequel to P.N.03 might be nice (I wouldn't say it's my favourite, but I liked the game too), but you'd need to strap another Wiimote to yourself so you can wiggle your butt appropriately while blasting robots.

Actually I would like to see a total remake of P.N. 03.  Because I think the game was a little to ambitious for the technology, no offense to the Cube.  Plus now that I've actually played more then just the demo, which is a horrible representation of the game, the whole game seems so far to be about cover and dodging not so much killing things and the like.  In fact I think B G&E feels a little similar now that I think about it.

I think if I tried that my girlfriend would finally have me sectioned - she's been threatening for years and she wouldn't be able to pass up an oppotunity like that. Especially after some drunken lap dancing I apparently induldged in a while back (no recollection of that one but several trusted mates assure me it happened with slightly horrified looks on their faces...)

The weird color banding on the walls was quite off putting - I don't know if this was too many effects at once causing rounding errors, or just two few color bits in the frame buffer but the result was less than ideal. I really liked what they were trying to do with the graphical style though and it's a shame the implementation let them down a bit. The game wouldn't have looked the same with strongly textured environments.

The two articles have conflicting information.  Will the game just be going multiplatform (all three consoles) or will be it yanked from the PS3 completely?  The first one seems more likely.

Hmmm....not really.

I was thinking of a game more like Sadness than anything. A game where you can use any object you might need, be it a branch or compass. It would be ultra-realistic in the sense that you would have to use the objects around you to solve puzzles.

For example, on your journey you find an abandoned house on a lake. You find out that you need to quickly get to the other side. Fortunetly, this house has a boat house. Peering in a window, you can see the boat.....chillen. You go to side door to open it, only to find out it's locked --

Because of the way the game is made, you have a couple options. You can either bust the lock with the crow-bar you saw in the house, or you can grab a stick and bust the window out. Each option works, but one maybe a wiser decision (climbing through a broken window may be detremental to your health).

The story that pushes the game along could be rather simple. Let's say the earth has be ravaged by some virus that turns people into vampiric maniacs. You hear on the radio that there is a safe house 30 miles west of you. Excluding the puzzles, the only problem you have that stops your progression is -- the night time. You see, strange things come out at night and if your not well prepared you could die.

On another note - there would be no HUD.

Meh, it was probably bad decision making on the programmer's part.  My biggest gaffix gripe was the intense jagginess -- total lack of filtering.

Those shortcommings were absent from RE4, as it looks like the RE4's gaffix roots were deeper in P.N.03 than in the previous RE GC titles.

Possibly - I got the impression that the GC has some sort of frame buffer compression that can cause those sorts of artifacts irrespective of what the programmer does and it was actually the artistic decision to go with very clean plain untextured environments that caused the banding and the edge aliasing to show up so badly. Other games with noisier textures hide these defects better.

[EDIT: BTW, all the jaggies in PN03 are on polygon edges where filtering won't help - you'd need some sort of FSAA to properly alleviate that]
Title: RE: Devil May Cry 4 on Wii60!! w00t!!
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on July 27, 2006, 11:31:27 AM
Sure, but there are solutions for flickering available, and they don't seem to have used them.

When I mention the jaggies, the context was it was more "harsh" than in other games.  It's like P.N.03 had "larger" pixels than most games.  Go back to SSBM's flicker filter option and see the difference, it's quite jarring.  I understand that GameCube doesn't natively support FSAA, but Nintendo's applied the softening filter to practically all their games since SSBM, and it helps.

Yeah, I see what you mean - it's weird the whole game looks technically worse that you'd think it needs to be given the complexity of the levels. Maybe it was just rushed or simply badly implemented.

Anyway - whatever the reasons for it looking worse than we'd like, it would definitely look better done again in the same style but on better hardware.

Well it didn't worry me as such - it's just looking at it a bit over-critically and in the light of the whole next-gen thing, I can see some room for improvement.

The weird color banding on the walls was quite off putting - I don't know if this was too many effects at once causing rounding errors, or just two few color bits in the frame buffer but the result was less than ideal.

That happens with 16 bit color. Or 8 bit but I don't think they've gone that low.

Can't say I've seen many jaggies, my TV is so bad it blurs the image somewhat so it looks like the deflickered SSBM graphics (which I think is just a slight blur).

Hasn't it been stated that this was a mistranslation of sorts, at least that is what I've been hearing. Then again that was on the PS3 message board where I heard that DMC is still a PS3 exclusive.

If it's PS3 exclusive I'll wait for the PC port of the enhanced version.
