Title: Question about DSL
Post by: assassin1234 on July 08, 2006, 03:49:11 PM
Im thinking of buying one, and was wondering how multiplayer works. I heard somewhere that if two people have DS, but only one copy of a game, both can still play. Is this true? If so, what items do they both need?

Not all games allow you to play with one card, only certain ones. In order to do this, the person with the game sets it up, while the one without it goes to download play which is on the menu when you first turn it on. The downside to this is that there usually arent as many multiplayer options when downloaded, for ex: on mario kart ds you only have one character to choose from, less courses to go to both on battle and versus, and in battle it automaticly sends you to a course, you cant pick. On metroid prime hunters you can only choose samus, and i have noticed that the sound quality is much worse. These are just a few examples.

thx for the quick reply. What happens if me and a friend both have the game, do we need something extra to play, like a usb adapter or something, or can we just play if we're like right next to eachother.

DS doesn't use any sort of memory card. All the game data will save directly to the game itself.
Wireless multiplayer and the ability to play with one cart have both made it more enjoyable for me. All multiplayer is wireless, the only time a cord is needed is when the DS needs recharged (rarely).

most video game reviews for ds tell you what sort of multiplayer options the games have. if you're that interested in getting a ds or dsl, and want to know which games have multiplayer and which have single-card play and/or mutli-card play, just read reviews or check out the back of the box next time you're at your local retailer. its kinda simple.
most of the simpler games have single-card download play (like brain age) but as stated before, even bigger games like metroid prime: hunters has it too.

You can also play online, using a Nintendo Wifi USB Connector. I found one at Best Buy for 40 dollars a few months ago, it might be less now. The setup if very simple, it only took me five minutes. Some of the games are: Metroid Prime: Hunters, Mario Kart DS, Tony Hawks American Sk8land, Lost Magic, Tetris, and a few imports i dont feel like mentioning. A few games coming out within the next few months that allow wifi are Tenchu Dark Secret, Mario Hoops 3 on 3, Star Fox Command, and Magical Starsign. But, i have heard very bad things about Tenchu.

Yes it does have a headphone port. Just remember to keep the games in some kind of case, because they are extremely small. 1.6 by 1.3 inches. They are also 1/5 of a cm thick. oh, and Contact is going to be online.
