Title: The Capcom 2
Post by: Artimus on July 08, 2006, 10:20:40 AM
I refer, of course, to the 'only' worthwhile titles of the original Capcom 5: Viewtiful Joe and RE4. And, after way too long, I finally purchased them both yesterday! I haven't played RE4 yet (saving it for a dark, lonely night, lol) but have been playing Joe. Besides absolutely sucking (I can't even beat the helicopter on Adult, so I've resorted to playing Kids) I'm really enjoying it. I'm not a huge beat-em-up fan, but Joe is so well done you can't not like it. They seriously better come out with this for Wii, it could be insane if they include all kinds of whacky actions.

2 1/2D 4 Life?

You really shouldn't dismiss Killer 7 so quickly.  It's quite a unique game and worth playing.  The gameplay isn't as bad as some reviewers make it out to be.  I had a quite a bit of fun with it.

Oh yes, sorry, I didn't mean to totally dismiss that one. It's really cheap now so I may pick it up someday!

F*ck you.

I <3 Killer 7. Buy it. It's only $14.99 now.

As for P.N. 03, I remember playing a demo of it at EB Games and, after getting over the fun of firing little energy shots from the character's arm, feeling bored with the drab environment. Since then, I've never felt compelled to try the game out.

Killer 7 is... the game control style is simplistic and a little clunky, but does nothing to detract from the style, zazz, panache and utter awesomeness of Killer 7's world and storyline.

Killer 7 is quickly becoming my favourite GameCube game. Every day Killer 7 gets better in my mind, even without even playing it! PN03 is also GREAT. I don't know if I love VJ more, probably more than PN03, but not as much as Killer 7. RE4 and Killer 7 are the best. I'd like to thank Capcom for all this great quality and I hope to see more on Wii!

P.N.03 + killer7 = win

RE4 would NEVER have materialized the way it had without the development of P.N.03.

And VJ is the glorious one-hit wonder.

That's not fair. (The Cartoon is quite good.)

Yes but it sucks that they Hero-Turtles'd it and made the robots no break apart.

If anyone can't see how this...

...and this...

...would be exponentially better with accelerometers and a laser pointing device, and perhaps even the greatest Wii game ever, then they are utterly devoid of imagination. Which most likely means they sit on the board of Capcom.

You mean we could shake her bum at will? Is that my imagination?

Close. Your imagination has probably become distracted by the other good thing offered by butt shaking.

That's not bum-shaking. Vanessa is just playing Warioware: Smooth Moves.

Sorry, PN03 was a piece of ass.

I mean, crap.

The entire slew of capcom games were mediocre rubbish.

Yeah, I have a dorm-mate who swears by P.N.03, but I honestly can't see anything at all appealing about the game. He says the gameplay ends up something like a "Gradius" style shooter, but I think he's just trying to come up with an excuse to look at Vanessa's backside for hours on end.

I will say this for P.N.03 though... she jumps real nicely, animation, and the distance she jumps fits precisely with the level design in manyc ases, so it's quite seamless flipping.

I played P.N. 03 to the end, the environments were similar throughout the game, but the gameplay was actually what held the game together, and the graphics were very nice overall.

...Provided you understood the gameplay (hint: it's not about getting to the end of the game).

It's also not an FPS/TPS. Some people don't seem to understand that and complain about control lag and "stupid" enemies...

As for the environments, they were similar but each level still had a distinct look. Of course a high-tech instalation will have a consistent look, be happy they didn't try to be "creative" and let you fight through warehouses and sewers full of wooden crates.

Yeah, I only played the demo for that, but I thought what killed it was the lack of creativeness in the aesthetic design. I can put up with retread shoot-em-up gameplay, but the company behind Darkstalkers and Mega Man has got to have it in them to make the game and characters look more unique than they did.

*raises hand* I can join the PNO3 club too right? Right? I, too, am a big fan of this game. I think the problem here is that when oen palys it, they aren't given what they expected it to be and stops judging the game based on what it is and starts to do so based on what it isn't. A shame really, I find it fun..

Funny note, isn't it great how Capcom never ported the "worse" of the Capcom 5 (Believe in Dead Phoenix!) to PS2? Why stop the backstabbing at VJ, RE4, and K7? Go for the gusto!

I think P.N.03 came out before Capcom gave up on the idea of exclusive GameCube support, and the company just didn't feel like going back to port it.

Sometimes I wish Capcom would have ported Gotcha Force to PS2 or something, if only because I haven't been able to find the GC version ANYWHERE for YEARS.

Yep, I got lucky on that one and found it for eight Euros in a bargain bin once.

I paid 10 bucks for PN03, and it was absolutely worth it. It's a niche title, by all means, by I like its old-style mentality and its sound and graphics are also quality.

I played it until I unlocked the Papillion, then realized that it's nigh impossible to beat the game without ever getting hit. Too bad we'll never see a swiiquel.

I bought P.N.03 right around it's US launch so I payed full price for it. I think it was worth it though. It would be nice to see Vanessa in SSBB but I know it will never happen... ever. I've never played Killer7 but I'm tempted to after seeing the Heroes vid.

I want K7 but the GC version (since I've heard the PS2 one is pretty crappy). Unfortunately that didn' see any price drops, started at 45€ and remained there. I think the GC version is no longer available in stores... The PS2 version is at 20€ right now IIRC.

From what I've read the PS2 version isn't that bad.  The load times are longer, there's some slight lag at certain parts of the game and the controls are less-than-ideal.  However, none of those issues completely break the game.  PS2 Killer7 is better than no Killer7 at all.

Killer7 PS2's cutscenes are completely FMV, no joke.  Basically you're playing the illusion of a GameCube game called Killer7.

Like, I just handed you a copy of TMNT the CG Movie so you can watch it.  On VHS.  Made by a guy who snuck his camcorder into a theater.  The makers put a lot of work in taking advantage of the medium, yet you view it through muddy contact lenses.

Killer 7 on PS2 was actually ported there by another team, probably because the original development team wanted nothing to do with PS2 but Capcom made it happen anyway.

I heard that the load times in the PS2 version are around 11 seconds for each room. That sounds like it could get infuriating real fast.

Although I can understand this game not being someone's cup of tea, I'd bet the main reason it fared so badly in reviews was because they only played the PS2 version and assumed the Cube version was identical. Like they always do.

They assumed the GameCube version was a port of the PS2 version, which itself was a port of the original version in Suda 51's brain.

I live with and around far too many people to ever be able to play PN3.

You can get Killer7 for $10.
