Title: Wario World Developer Not Treasure?
Post by: Gaijinchuugoku on March 02, 2003, 08:58:19 AM
Q: Can you also say who the developer of Wario World is?
Shigeru Miyamoto: I don't know if I can say this. Tell you what, Wario World is being developed by Nintendo in conjunction with a second party that we've worked with in the past.
I originally thought that Treasure was developing Wario World, but Shiggy's reluctance to tell us leads me to believe otherwise. One other possibility is that Treasure was secretly bought out, but Shiggy stated that it was a second party they've worked with in the past.

personally i think that nintendo probably picked up treasure miyamoto did say that it was a second party they worked with before even though we do not know if treasure is a second party, i dont think it would be a bad pick up treasure has made tons of great games (sin and punishment, ikaruga, radient silvergun, gunstar heros) and they have collaborated with nintendo in the past (sin and punishment) hopefully they really did get them i would love to see another great shooter in the vein of gunstar heros made again

i think that the comment definitely proves that Treasure is now working exclusively with Nintendo...which is a REALLY good thing

Nope, really don't think so. Treasure is collaborating with Konami on Gradius V for the Playstation 2. I extremely doubt that a Nintendo 2nd party would be working on Playstation 2 title, unless Konami and Treasure came to a deal before Nintendo bought Treasure out. And given the fact that Gradius V was only announced a week or two ago, I really doubt that.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this on the many WarioWorld threads I never bothered to read, but the grab 'n throw gameplay mechanics really remind me of Mischief Makers on N64, which Treasure dev'd.

Quote Treasure is making Wario World. I think that Miyamoto has a different meaning for second party. I think that he meant working close with Treasure. Sin & Punishment was developed by Nintendo R&D1 & Treasure.
From that other thread. That person manipulated the word and took it out of context. By his definition, Sega, Namco, Capcom, ect. could be developing it.

I think Miyamoto meant second party as in another party. Not second party as second party developer.

How MANY TIMES CAN THIS BE ASKED????????????????????
Treasure is developing it, and the fact that Treasure and Nintendo worked together on Sin and Punishment fits perfectly well with Miyamoto-san's statement. I'm almost positive that sites who have questioned this have even checked with Treasure on it to get confirmation, but I don't have the evidence.
I thought this question had died out finally. No rumor like this would go on since last fall without the REAL second party standing up and saying, "HEY! PEOPLE! Cut it out for god's sake! Treasure isn't making it--WE ARE!"
At least that's my impression of the whole thing.
Also, I can't understand fully why what Miyamoto said would lead you to believe that Treasure WASN'T developing it, since he certainly doesn't say anything of the sort. I think perhaps he's putting emphasis on the fact that NINTENDO is running the show on this game and that most likely Treasure is trying to be honorable as always and not take all the credit for it. Treasure does that from time to time. Who the heck knows, but I'm pretty darn sure that we haven't been wrong for all these many months.

I couldn't agree more,Dafunkk. That is indeed a valid point.I am really excited over the game myself-regardless of how graphically it winds up to be-not to say it doesn't look good enough. But the Treasure touch in any game is not to be missed.
Then again-i just thought about it now-Treasure aren't known for repeating their formulas-regardless of success or lack of it.They don't even make sequals.
I am still hoping this game is indeed developled by Treasure.

dude, miyamoto didnt know.....its obvious. It escaped him at the moment. Im sure he knows, but hey, he is a big ass producer...he has alot of stuff going on. He can't always be perfect. Thats why they made the joke. "Tell you what, Wario World is being developed by Nintendo in conjunction with a second party that we've worked with in the past." or maybe he thought it was a stupid question and he was playign around with him. Seriously there were a few questions i thought were rediculous althought it was a good developer. They were constantly askign what was being at e3. The real thign is "if your wondering what unnanounced games are coming out you will have to wait until we announce them or e3, remember we are more secretive then the cia, and my PR guide would kill me if i spilled the beans."

I think we all know that Rare is actually making it. That whole Microsoft thing was a big joke.

Sean: It's not quite as clear cut as you make it out to be. IGN, one site that has identified Treasure as the developer in the past, recently listed the following information for Wario World in a feature article:
Wario World Developer: Unknown (Treasure?) Publisher: Nintendo Release Date: May 26, 2003 Exclusive: Yes
Obviously, IGN isn't sure who the developer is. I'll agree with you that it absolutely makes the most sense that Treasure is indeed the co-developer of the game, but I want to know why nobody is willing to just come out and verify that fact. I really don't see the purpose to all the cloak and daggers involved in this situation, at least not yet.

What I meant was it was also being co-developed by Nintendo and a "second party". There are a couple of games that has been co-developed.
Sin & Punishment: Successors to the Earth - Nintendo R&D1 / Treasure Co. Ltd Card Hero - Nintendo R&D1 / Intelligent Systems Co. Ltd Super Metroid - Nintendo R&D1 / Intelligent Systems Co. Ltd Battle Clash - Nintendo R&D1 / Intelligent Systems Co. Ltd Napoleon - Nintendo EAD / Genki The Legend of Zelda: Oracle Series - Nintendo EAD / Flagship / Capcom
Note: I don't know if Nintendo R&D2 and IRD worked with another party on their games.
Intelligent Systems is a first party now. That leaves Treasure, Genki, and Flagship. It seems to make sense that Treasure is the developer since the Genki and Flagship games were for handhelds and the Treasure game was for consoles. Also, Flagship is doing the original GBA Zelda game.

Well, it's officially confirmed that the game is being developed by Treasure. I am quite shocked though that a Treasure game got such disappointing impressions from E3. But I guess it was just an early build. I'm sure Treasure won't let gamers down . If only they would bring over Sin and Punishment...

The question remains though .. does the recent confirmation that Treasure is the ones doing Wario World mean that they are in fact a Nintendo 2nd Party developer now? ...... hm..

May 2002 was when it was confirmed on E3's Wario World stand that TREASURE was making the game. It said so in the STARTUP screen! I can't believe how oblivious people can be for almost a whole year. And with second party Miyamoto meant "A" 2nd party, as in the first being Nintendo themselves.

And you call yourself Mario? Pffffft. Super Mario Land 1, 2, 3 and the Wario Land games were by Nintendo inhouse.
