Title: I demand Psychonauts to be on the VC!
Post by: nemo_83 on June 09, 2006, 09:13:27 PM
Someone told me the game does not work on the 360...this is one of the Xbox games that I was wanting to go back and try when I get a 360 (when Halo 3 comes out).  This is real simple, Nintendo needs to get this highly acclaimed super sleeper on their Virtual Console.

And then there are the bragging rights, "our system is backwards compatible with Xbox games the 360 can't run."

I dont think I need to tell you how unlikely that is (considering that the VC only has n64 at the highest, plus the whole new emulator which I doubt microsoft would ever let nintendo have.)

That would be nice, but I really wouldn't expect any current-gen games to be on the VC....

Just grab the PS2 or PC version if you don't have an XBox. I've got the PS2 one out of the bargain bin, 15 Euros. The PC version regularly goes for 20 now. I'd recommend the PC version since the load times are annoyingly long on the PS2, although they are infrequent most of the time.

Now if Nintendo was really smart they would contract Double Fine for a second Psychonauts and somehow include the first as a pre-order bonus. I'd hate to see Pyschnauts die. The game was amazing and easily one of the best games of the generation.

Sorry, I don't want substitute garbage on my VC.

Tim Schafer better get working on an adventure game, not this platforming crap. I'm glad it sold horribly.

Because his last adventure game sold so well right Paladin?

Psychonauts was great but don't expect games this big on the VC.  If you really want to play it do as said above or just buy an xbox in a few months (or when Halo 3 comes out, you were gonna wait that long anyway) when it becomes dirt cheap.

I was just waiting for Paladin to say that.  I would like to see Psychonauts, but I really don't see this happening.

Psychonauts was a fun game but i doubt that Nintendo will have a Xbox emulator in the Wii.
Strange topic.........

The difference is that I'm sad his adventure games sold horribly.

In my heart Grim Fandango is still the best-selling game ever.

I don't think Psychonauts needs a Wii port or a sequel. There are enough versions of the game and I don't think a sequel would be good for it. Let Schaefer think up an entirely new setting instead of having to work with an old one again.

Obviously the words of someone who has never played Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle or especially Grim Fandango. We love him because he is the Miyamoto of videogame humor.

A sequel with a pack in copy of the first would be an awesome exclusive.  But I was thinking, first get the first game on the system using the remote and then it would convince them to make a sequel taking full advantage of the controller.  I however don't know who owns all the rights right now.

My PC would never run that game, it would rather explode.  And I heard the PS2 version was a POS compared to the Xbox version, which I could believe.

People already download the whole library of Xbox games using mod chips, why not download a current gen game on Wii?

"lol is this a GameFAQs thread."  Is there a thread on this on gamefaqs too?  collective conscious at work?

Not enough to make it a bad game. Some load times are annoying but often you spend 30 minutes or more in a section between loading screens. Textures are a bit blurry in some places, I've had minor slowdown once (in a sector without enemies) but no real problems pertaining to the system. Rather than starting threads on how you want a multiplatform game that can be played by 95% of the gaming population (but apparently that 95% didn't give a damn) to be ported on a console that has not even been released you can just go out and buy it. If your PC is so ancient that it can't play a PS2 port you might want to upgrade it.

Is there a thread on this on gamefaqs too? collective conscious at work?

No but your idea is stupid enough to fit on GameFAQs.
It's completely impossible for the Wii to emulate an Xbox accurately. There's also no reason the game needs a port or sequel. In fact I'd say that attempting either of those would waste money that could be better spent on a new idea. Psychonauts can be found in the clearance bin in large numbers. It just didn't sell.

Psychonauts has NO use for the remote. Look at Super Mario Galaxy, they had to add a new game element to make use of the motion sensing. Psychonauts is the same, there is no aiming at all in the game. Sometimes you lock on and fire a few shots but it's rare and not a major game element.

Don't be so bitter Paladin.  Adventure games stopped making money a while back (Grimm Fandango is an example) so you should wish Tim your best as he tries to bring his unique style to other genres.  Instead of hoping he dies of starvation but makes adventure games you should want to see what he was known for continue and still be used in games.  Did you complain when Miyamato decided to make nintendogs instead of another mario platformer?  Don't pigeon hole the guy.

The gogglor level was absolute genius, so was the milkman level, now that I think about it they pretty much all were.

I played the PC Psychonauts demo, it was kinda fun, but the sample level was strictly linear, instead of more open like in Mario 64.  Are all the levels fairly linear?
Title: RE: I demand Psychonauts to be on the VC!

I'd say the particular levels themselves were fairly linear but there is alot of collecting to do in the open areas. The collecting only becomes tedious if you seek out all of the figments, but the Scavenger Hunt Items and Psi-Cards were always a pleasure to seek out.

I can't believe the anti-Psychonauts sentiment on this board. I understand the game did not sell well, but I think that the game was extremely original and a blast to play. I think nemo's point to get it on the Wii is a valid one. People may get to appreciate the excellence that was Psychonauts if Nintendo really pushed the game(perhaps published it). Fanboys like us eat up pretty much anything Nintendo formally endorses and I don't see why a Psychonauts 2 would be any different. Although the likelihood of any of this is slim to none, it's still nice to dream.

That's what Lucas Arts wants you to believe. That rationale does not explain the increasing number of point & click adventures that are being released.

Are all the levels fairly linear?

Depends on the level. Some levels include exploration and backtracking while others are just obstacle parcourses. There are hidden items throughout the games that increase your ammo and life limits (kinda like Metroid) and you can replay any level later if you want to search through it again.
