Title: Rock
Post by: please let me in, please on June 07, 2006, 08:02:57 AM
Not many people are rockers anymore, and that makes me sad. Anyone here like rock music?
examples: Nickelback, Staind, Black Sabbath, Queen,Seether,System of a Down,ACDC, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Pantera, Judas Priest, Godsmack,Kiss,Korn,Iron Maiden, Breaking Benjamin, Creed, Disturbed, Guns N Roses; anyone like that?

I really never liked mainstream rockbands like Metallica or Guns'n Roses ( although Apocalyptica is awesome) but I do like some metal bands, specially Therion and some songs of NightWish and similar bands, and some black metal bands, I suppose they enter into the rock category, I really dont care about the labels, I just love the music.

Van Halen, not Van Haggar
edit: labels like "mainstream" ?

Anyone like Ra or Crossfade? Ive only heard a few songs from each, but they sound pretty awesome. I need a new cd, something heavy; or about as heavy as Staind. Not much into metal right now. Any suggestions?

I love rock music... up to the last ten years or so. For some reason virtualy nothing since about 1996 has interested me. It just sounds so, well, boring. A lot of rock bands today sound bland and generic. There's no hooks or catchy melodies. So many times it's all angstly emo crap where the lead singer either has whiny gravelly voice like Chad Kroeger or a wimpy voice where he sounds like he's 14 years old (and with whiny 14 year old lyrics to match.) There have been some killer songs released in the last few years that I really like but I haven't found a band since 1996 that I've really latched on to.
The last era I really liked was the brit-pop era where Oasis and Blur were really big and grunge had died down. Both bands kind of went into directions I didn't care for after that. After that really sh!tty bands like Creed and Matchbox 20 came out as well as sorts of supposed "punk" like Blink 182 and things got boring. I think the problem is that the bands today are too conservative. They're not adult contemporary as they have distorted guitar but the guitar isn't too heavy or too intimidating at the same time. It sounds like they want everyone to like them like they're some EA game or something. Either that or they target 14 year olds so I don't relate to the music. Or they incorporate too much hip hop or techno elements.
But rock music from prior to 1997 is all kinds of awesome and I like virtually any rock subgenre provided it actually has some tunes to it (ie: some metal or hardcore punk like Black Flag is a too heavy to me to the point where it doesn't sound like a song). I get together with my friends and jam and we've written some songs.

Nickelback isnt that bad. Try listening to their heavier stuff; like Side of a Bullet and Because of You. Their lyrics are good and catchy, and Chad does good on most songs. The only thing bothering me is that they dont ever do a good solo, and on some occasions Chad is the opposite of a song hes supposed to be singing.

some of the band you listed there aren't really rock...but whatever...
I prefer metal, the favorites being: Rage, Metallica, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani
other, non-metal favorites (rock most of them): AC/DC, Guns n Roses, Iron Maiden, Green Day, Buitres, La Trampa, Cuarteto de Nos
(side note, you won't know the last three )

"i have to ask, am i the only one in here that also likes cheesey 80s music??"
Some cheesy 80s music is really fun. Def Leppard for example has some really catchy tunes and I have their greatest hits album. There are all sorts of one hit wonders from the 80s that are like pure pop but are still fun because they're so catchy. I remember Rolling Stone did the worse songs ever list and We Built This City by Starship was the worst. I'll admit that in terms of artistic merit the song is complete crap particularly since it seems to have anti-sellout lyrics but is a total sellout song. But it's catchy and when it's on the radio I turn it up.
One thing I don't like about Nickleback is that they never seem to have intros. Every song starts with singing. Huh?
Title: RE:Rock
Post by: please let me in, please on June 07, 2006, 10:09:35 AM
Nickelback starting without intro? not neccesarily. I own 3 albums, so i would know. Also, Def Leppard are good. Not great, but good. lyrics are usually ok, catchy. They play sorta well, but I dont like it when they add too much of a pop sound.

"Nickelback starting without intro? not neccesarily. I own 3 albums, so i would know."
Well I'm just going by their radio hits since that's all I really know.
A caveat about Def Leppard though is that they were only worth a damn in the 80s. Their 90s stuff and beyond is really bleh. On their greatest hits from 1997 the two new songs sound exactly the same.
My favourite rock band is Led Zeppelin.
Title: RE:Rock
Post by: please let me in, please on June 07, 2006, 10:42:11 AM
I do like Led Zeppelin, but I am into more heavier stuff really. One more thing, I can understand about Nickelback. Most of their hits sound the same and dont usually open with intros. You have to buy the cds, which sucks. One thing thats weird about them is their constant change of pace. They started off with a kind of alternative sound, for the first cds, with some good heavy stuff every now and then. Next, they went to The Long Road and went towards a heavier, different sound. I like the album, but it wasnt the same. Next they made All the Right Reasons, which was an extremely light album for them, but a very good one none the less. I like and dislike their changes.

"Most of their hits sound the same and dont usually open with intros. You have to buy the cds, which sucks."
What an interesting strategy. Release the sh!ttiest songs as singles and then people will naturally be drawn to buying the album to hear the good stuff. This is like bizarroland marketing. Something's working though since they've been pretty successful.
"i sung 'photograph' at kareoke once, it was a blast."
What did it sound like? I find Def Leppard songs really hard to sing worth a damn. But then you didn't say you sang it well.

Post by: please let me in, please on June 07, 2006, 11:38:21 AM
The reason they sell so well is because its nickelback. That song How You Remind Me they made in 2002 stayed at number one on the charts longer than any other rock song in history. Its a proven fact, its in the Guiness Book of World Records. This draws many people, and the fact they sound so awesome live.

Man, I'm with you guys on this 'no good rock since the mid 90s'. Some catchy songs, but nothing really innovative.
I love 80's music, love Def Leppard (80's), and I remember when Metallica was the farthest from mainstream you could get.
Now, I really like the Industrial stuff too, which so far hasn't seen any love here yet. And where is the Tool mention? Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills, Ministry, Catherine Wheel, Chemlab, Drown, KMFDM, and many others.
Anyone else like Lords Of Acid? I only have one album, but its awesome (the one with the devil chicks on the cover )
And I really got into the grunge scene, too. Nirvana blew my mind with Nevermind. Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Guntruck, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and every other band on the 'Singles' soundtrack.
Man, what happened to music in the past 6 or so years?
Oh yeah, need to give a shout out to Garbage. I saw them live, and they were spectacular.

Man, what happened to music in the past 6 or so years? >> Maybe some of the following has had an effect
Britney Spears --85 million in record sales, first 4 albums beginning in '99 debut at #1
Christina Aguilera -- first album sold over eight million copies in the US
JLO --all albums between '99-'05 sold over a mil
Hillary Duff -- all 3 albums between 03-05 sold over a mil, 1st and 3rd at #1, second at #2 on the chartz
Kelly Clarkson won two Grammys over Paul McCartney this year, not that it matters but it's kinda sad.

blackfootsteps wins!
Music made an awesome comeback in the early 90s and then was promptly killed when they tried to pull the 25 anniversary woodstock garbage.
Limp Bizkit er whatever hurting people and insighting riots... wonderful... and music will never be the same.
LiVE, PJ, OLP, Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, Early Counting Crows, Sponge, Tragically Hip, Everclear... I could go on and on. Nirvana
Also, for some older and awesome flair, Talking Heads, Clash, Violent Femmes, TMBG.
As per seeing PJ this year... Their albums have gone a little too political and dark lately for my liking. The new one is pretty good, but I don't plan on paying 50 bucks to see them and sit in the nose bleeds.
As far as good shows go, I just went and saw a show for 30 bucks in which both LiVE and Our Lady Peace played.... what a freaking wonderful concert. If any of you don't know who OLP is, you should definately listen. They write music that gives you goosebumps, seriously.
This could be the best day of my life.

"since I'm Canadian I think its in the law somwhere that you have to like RUSH"
I'm Canadian and I hate Rush, partially because a lot of people seem to like Rush because they act like it's an obligation to support Canadian bands. That and the damn radio stations in Vancouver play their songs all the time. There are some really good Rush songs I like though like Time Stands Still and Show Don't Tell.
Grunge is great. Though I've noticed that pretty much any band today that claims to have been influenced by grunge sucks. Apparently they must have liked something completely different about grunge than I did. If Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself I wonder if rock music would still be good. While I still liked rock music for a few years after his death the bands making that music were bands around when Kurt was still alive.

oh and ian, as for singing def leapord...you're right i never said i sung it well ;-). it wasnt horrible either, i can hold a tune but we only did it for the kicks. we wore the tight pants and muscle shirts with bandanas and poofed up hair, the whole nine yards. we wanted the laughs.
as for rap/metal or rap/rock....eh...those bands that came out and were dubbed "nu-metal" but were rap+rock/metal (ie. linkin park, korn, etc..) i never got into. however i have heard some good stuff from a fusion of rap and rock. check out the Transplants. half the cd is punk rock/hardcore/metal, with some rapping in it, but not your typical jay-z kinda rapping, and some others are more hip-hop oriented and just happen to have some good solos or power chords over a good beat. they even have one latin "reggeatone" sounding song thats by far the best off of their second album, and i CANT STAND that spanish rap...and im spanish..lol.
and while speaking of rap, check out this guy called MC Lars. if you dislike hiphop, listen to the track "generic crunk rap". if you dislike emo, and i know alot of you do ;-)...check out the song "signing emo". if you hate myspace and people trying to find love on t he internet check out "internet relationships (are not real relationships". the guy kinda just pokes fun at everything, and the songs are DAMN good. if anyones interested just PM me or email me and i can send you the songs if you're too lazy to d/l. the guys really good and since he put out his album on his own, i'd like to hear him get some radio play.

Hostile Creation, NO. k, i will admit some of the bands listed sucks. I was just trying to see who liked what, and get to know more people. But, Nickelback is pretty good, and sound awesome live. Also, I belive Green day was extremely good with their last album, but the singer sounds winded live. Also, i didnt name my favorites, except Staind(who i believe is good), Queen, Nickelback, Black Sabbath, Pantera and that sums it up,( that was on there at the start). Try Breakin Benjamin and Seether. They are good. Along with Ra, and a little of Crossfade(because some songs sound the same), and some HIM. Led Zepplin = okay, Def Leppards not bad, so on ect.
Of course, this is just a matter of opinion.

If you get a chance (this is directed at everyone) listen to 'Marker in the Sand' and 'Come Back' off of the new album. Bloody awesome.
Prices don't matter much for concerts in Oz. Any big US band will charge approximately A$100 per ticket. Yeah we get screwed, but that's not stopping me from seeing Pearl Jam 5 times in November (arg exams!). How can I resist, I've got three front row tickets and an empty bank balance that needs filling for my equal first love the Wii.

really? i thought that was probably the weakest song on the album. the first track, i forget the long title but the short title is Millionaire is really good and has an old school rock and roll feel to it. its simple but it comes off super heavy. "first it giveth" was another stand out track as well as "the mosquito song" which ends the album and leaves you wondering just how the hell they slipped that song in there. everything before it is pretty heavy then all the sudden you have this slow melodic song with a great crescendo towards the end when the horn sections come in. the lyrics are great too.
ah well, to each his own

I've listened to the Mars Volta, but it just doesn't do it for me. Maybe I'll have another listen now...and seeing a band live can make a big difference. I found Matt Mayes and El Torpedo really boring on the radio, but they were pretty good in concert. I like a bunch of Candian bands (though not Rush, hehe...)
I love Queens of the Stone Age...No One Knows is one of my favourites, it just sounds "different", which is one of the things I look for most in music (and all media for that matter). But I like a lot of their other songs. The Mosquito song is great, good conclusion to the album.

Rock and roll is where it's at. Or where it was in the past.
Pink Floyd (best band that ever existed.) Rush Beatles Eagles King Crimson U2 Jethro Tull
And then the more metal-y stuff...
Iron Maiden Metallica Van Halen Scorpions Guns and Roses Ozzy Osbourne (when he still had Rhoads)
Along with the wierd stuff...
Daft Punk (this and Pink Floyd constitute most of my listening) Nine Inch Nails Spock's Beard (I almost misspelled that in a way that would offend our darker skinned forumers)

"I've listened to the Mars Volta, but it just doesn't do it for me." That's because YOU FAIL.
I kid. Have you heard At the Drive In?
(Don't yell at me, I actually discovered TMV BEFORE ATDI, so.. puh.)
Title: RE: Rock
Post by: vudu on June 09, 2006, 08:59:21 AM
At the Drive In was decent but over rated. Then they split up and their offspring (Mars Volta and Sparta) were even weaker than the sum of their parts. (Much like when KMFDM split and formed MDFMK and Slick Idiot.)
I saw Sparta live and they were the most boring live band I've ever seen. (For the record, I didn't go to see them; I went to see Glassjaw and Dredg.)
Title: RE: Rock
Post by: Frozen Atlantic on June 09, 2006, 09:40:03 AM
Dredg are from here. VERY good tunes. At The Drive In had one five star GREAT record and a couple solid ones. Mars Volta, like I said, are the forefront of music today. They're basically Led Zep 2006, rewriting the rulebook of music. Sparta are above mediocre. Again, I discovered them before At The Drive In, so I probably had lower expectations. ("Mars Volta and the growly Cut Your Ribbon d00d were in a band? Aw, sweet)
They have this very good Fugazi meets stadium rock feel in their best songs... but they also tend to include some slow, boring filler. I've mostly heard good things about their live show, although I've heard they're meat/potatoes. Jim Ward was never into all the crazy stage theatrics.
They both have new CD's this fall. Tend to release at the same time. Hmm.

I'm really pissed that I'm broke right now because my favourite guitar player of all time, Neil Young, is playing here this summer. I'd do anything to see that.

Okay, i like Pink Floyd. They are one of the best. Period. U2 is okay, but I never really listened to Pearl Jam. Only Spin the Black Circle ( and i do love that song). I think i might give them a shot. Anybody listen to Ra? Pretty good. Nickelback is coming to the Alltel Arena in Little Rock Arkansas August 31. Dont just instantly say im stupid for mentioning it, because many people hate their guts. But they sound awesome live, especially when they invite people on stage and show off. They are all awesome guitarists to, and its wicked when they all start a long solo at the same time. I dont know if they will do it in AR, but you might want to see it. Oh, and Hoobastank will open for them( dont know who likes them, but I personally think they suck).
Eagles: cool Iron Maiden: good Ozzy: freakin best, better when in black sabbath though. Metallica: really good Guns N Roses: never liked their singer(sorry).

lol yeah that was pretty random. anyway, i also listed a bunch of bands that arent very "rock" by comparison to other bands listed in other post, but are worth checking out none the less. if you'd like some song suggestions so you can hear the ones that DO rock, i'd be more than happy to.
also, im currently listening to Bad Religion and Angels and Airwaves, and actually just picked up a new cd a lil while ago: Rock Kills kid. listen to BB if you wanna hear some political stuff, and listen to A&A if you want to listen to some atmoshperic tunes, Rock Kills Kid if you wanna check out some garage stuff you can either dance to or chill out to.
suggested songs:
Bad Religion: Delirium of Disorder, You Angels & Airwaves: Good Day, A Littles Enough Rock Kills Kid: Midnight, Run Like Hell

not really metal related, but everyone should listen some OSTs made by Kaijura Yuki (and the Gundam SEED/Destiny ones), they are simply amazing....if you could listen only one, I'd recommend "A Song of Storm and Fire" of Tsubasa Chronicle OST1....that one is simply breathtaking....

Dead Kennedy's, The Misfits, Circle Jerks, The Ramones, Rancid, Bad Religion, Daredevils. Lets get on our skateboards and ride!
The Police, The Cars, The Thompson Twins, Genisis, Cyndi Lauper, Till Tuesday, Jane Child, Tears For Fears, INXS, Billy Idol. Some great 80's stuff.

There are still some great new rock bands today, a few of them. Like Wolfmother. Red Hot Chili Peppers new album is also their best one yet.
There's still nothing these days like Hendrix / Led Zeppelin / Queen though. ACDC, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Supertramp, those are some incredible rock bands as well. Pretty much 80% of my music collection now is rock.
Title: RE:Rock

INXS will never be the same without Michael Hutchence.
I haven't heard anything new from them. I've seen commercials for some TV show, but I don't watch TV very much. I suppose they could still be good, but they'll lack the sound that I found so appealing.

yes to every single one of those bands well...i never got into the foo fighters that much, a few songs (usually singles) are ok but i never gave an album a shot, but maybe i should.

and baltron87 yes, i have actually. in fact i know the singer Jorge. he's been a good friend of my brother for years and he's come over to my house and played super nintendo with us way back in the day . he got us back stage at warped tour like two years ago and we hung out and took pix. the whole band is awesome really, and so is their music. via la casualties army! lol
oh and to answer my own question if anyone is interested: i play guitar and bass. trying to learn drums but its hard cuz i cant fit a set into my apt. i'd love to get better though, for now i can keep simple beats. fun work out too. sadly, never been in a band .

Do you think it is better to have rock or orchestrated music in games? OPINIONS?
rock examples: godsmack in prince of persia: warrior within, a lot in tony hawk games.

I have a soundtrack on my XBox that is nothing but 80's and I drive Burnout to it all the time. Even though there is a punk soundtrack already on it, I get tired of the same songs all the time.
But some games deserve a rockin' soundtrack, others do not. Can you imagine Mario with Megadeth or Korn?

still, I'd prefer Metal+Orchestra

"Do you think it is better to have rock or orchestrated music in games?"
I prefer original music for games. It doesn't really matter what style it is provided it fits. The only time I like licenced music is for games like Tony Hawk where it really makes sense. It makes sense to skateboard to music that skateboarders listen to. But when licenced music is just there for the sake of having it it sucks. I remember renting NHL Hitz and although it is a really fun game I would never buy it because of the annoying Limp Bizkit music in it. In my mind that doesn't fit because when I think of hockey I think more of organ music and the Hockey Night in Canada theme.
Plus it's easier to get bored of licenced music. An original score lends itself better to the amount of repetition involved with playing games.

WWE Day of Reckoning really overdid the liscensed music as well. I think liscensed music works fine for that game, but I spent hours in character creation mode (unfortunately the best part of the game) and it doesn't take long for the game's short and very loud playlist to get annoying. They should have come up with something more laid-back for character creation. The Sims has a bland song for home creation, and while it might not be a a very good song, it doesn't get stuck in your head and grate on your last nerve.
I prefer original music, though. I personally thought Burnout 2 made amazing use of its original soundtrack - everything pumps up when you're boosting, and it really builds up the intensity.
In general, rock versus orchestra doesn't matter to me in games as long as it fits the game it's in.

*Ahem* Excuse me. I'm a huge fan of *almost* all things metal. I don't really like Nu-metal or Black Metal, but anything else is good. Progressive Metal (Dream Theater, Tool, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Fates Warning), Death Metal (though more melo-death), Power Metal (Blind Guardian, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish), Thrash Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera, Sepultura), classic metal (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryche) etc... Ok enough name dropping. Basically, I'm into a lot of things that combine any of the following (usually around a rock sound, that rock/jazz fusion is sweet too): Complexity, memorable/catchy melody (both with the lead instruments and the vocals), intelligent lyrics (depends on the genre), fun/rhythmic/groovy bass and drums, technical complexity, controlled energy (not just "raw loud energy"), and not necessarily "talent" as far as the members go but just the ability for the instruments to compliment each others' sounds and for the band to have at least *something* special or different about them, even if it's only one trait (the singer's tone, the drummer's fills, or the guitarist's solos or lack thereof). I use a lot of parentheses.

Sure, Helena was excellently played and had great vocals, and ghost of you is an extremely good song and amazing video ( one of the best around), but they have too many fillers on their cds. @EasyCure: I love Power Metal- the genre includes Rhapsody and Dragonforce- but I really really very strongly dislike both of those two bands, for a few different reasons, but mostly they are just way too cheesey for me to handle. Rhapsody is over the top with the operatic singing about dragons and battles and the like, and DF are too, with both of their singers annoying the hell outta me. Don't get me wrong, at least Rhapsody's frontman Fabio is a talented guy, but I really dislike is tone. And DF's singer just sounds like a chipmunk with his balls too tight inside his chainmail armor. Along those lines, other power metal bands that are just waaay too much for me: Hammerfall, Manowar. Ironically though, I love Luca Turilli, which is the guitarist from Rhapsody's side project. Specifically their second album. It's still pretty lame in terms of lyrics (lots of warrior stuff) but it has much better use of keyboards, and I like the singer's voice in that band much moreso.

those same reasons you dislike those bands are the reasons i LOVE THEM. i dont take them seriously at all beacuse you're right, they are so over the top with the cheese that you just cant take them seriously. the musicians are all great and very talented but hearing "dungeons and dragons" metal is just funny to me. oooh manowar is good too, since again they are over the top with the costumes and such.

Anyone here play an instrument? I dont, but i write lyrics, short storys, novels and all that crap. I also like to make movies (on a windows media movie player). I totally mentioned Megadeth earlier! I'm not a big fan but at least a growing one. I've seen them live once and they just totally rocked my face off. The albums Peace Sells through Countdown to Extinction are all absolute classics, and I really think they made a good comeback with "The System Has Failed"

To Chzn8r:
It has come to my attention that you have been to a megadeath concert, and that it rocked your face off (yeah). Please go into detail of this fabulous event, for i have not been blessed to enter. You hold a few of their cds, and that makes you like you more ( as a friend). I sadly have only one, BUT IT ROCKS!!!!!!!! It is The System has Failed. My favorite song is The Scorpion. Which one has Symphony of Destruction on it? I am definatly getting that one. See you at a later time my fellow rocker,
Please... ect.
P.S. Why does everyone hate on Nickelback? I think they sound awesome, especially their heavier songs. Side of a Bullet, is their greatest work ever. Its an amazing song, with a good solo. LISTEN TO IT. Also, im going to a Nickelback concert at the Alltel Arena in Arkansas. Just letting you know just in case theyre in your area, oh, and Hoobastank is opening for them. ( they arent that good in my opinion though.)

Nickelback has the bad fortune of being overexposed and having too many similar-sounding contemporaries.
Around the same time as Nickelback became popular, I started hearing from Theory of a Deadman, Default, etc., and they all blended together into a dull, low-voiced soup to me. All of them get too much play on the radio, and so I get annoyed when I hear any of them. They aren't necessarily bad bands, but it's hard for me to give a band a chance when I don't love them in the first place and then I keep hearing the same stupid songs over and over and over again.
Symphony of Destruction is on Countdown to Extinction, the only Megadeth album I own. I kind of lost interest after that.
The last rockin' rock concert I went to was the Tea Party. According to this one dude that was standing by me, there's always a thunderstorm when they play outdoors, and he thinks the lead singer prays to pagan gods to make that happen. It's a funny story, at least (and there WAS a thunder storm while we were there). The Tea Party rules, although they're starting to get a lot quieter as they age. That's okay with me, I like quiet and soft too, but overall I think they were better at loud and hard.
The last concert in general was...mmm...Garbage! They were awesome live. Shirley Manson threatened to personally fight a drunk that was causing trouble in the crowd. They were opened by a pretty cool L.A. band called TheStart. Kind of alternative rock with a dash of 80s rock-pop.

I will admit that they have quite a few similar sounding songs, but with the Long Road and All the Right Reasons, they tried to change that, and they are both good albums. The Long Road has heavier songs, and they are all good, the best in my perosnal opinion being Because of You. All the Right reasons tried many different things. Such as the use of a keyboard, and very strange tuning. This album has Side of a Bullet, which is my favorite Nickelback song, and its their heaviest to date. Even though the album is good, while trying to be different, it had too much keyboard and light rock. It has 3 heavy songs, all three being good, but the rest is a softer blend sounding slightly the same. Still give them a chance though.

Setlist (roughly, may not be in order) from when I saw Megadeth. They played for an hour and a half (as it was a large festival):
Blackmail The Universe Set The World Afire Skin O' My Teeth In My Darkest Hour Wake Up Dead Angry Again She Wolf Die Dead Enough Tornado Of Souls Trust Sweating Bullets The Scorpion Hangar 18 Kick The Chair Symphony Of Destruction ----------------- Peace Sells Holy Wars
Basically, only the absolute best stuff. No ****in' around. Just balls to the wall thrash metal.

I finally got something new. My friend went a few places, and got some demo cds. 1 only had a song, and ive heard it. Just Stop by Disturbed. I still borrowed it so i can put it on my computer. Another one had 2 songs, each the same, except one was from the album and the other was the radio version. It was called rapture by hurt. I listened, never hearing of the band, causing me to not expect much. I loved the song though. The singer was different, and i liked it. There was some good harmony between him and the backup singer, drums were excellent, and the lyrics did it for me. They were very well thought out. The chorus was extremely good. I only had 1 problem: Lack of a solo. So if anyone has heard of the band hurt, or has any of their cds, can you clue me in? He had more cds, but i didnt get to listend to them.

MSI is awesome. Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy is a great album. Tight is really good, too. It's a shame that their more recent stuff has dropped so much in quality. You'll Rebel to Anything is nearly unlistenable.

TOOL.
end of story.
not too many people get into them, but their music is really intelligent, if you can actually dedicate the brain power necessary to understanding their lyrics.

Tool is a great band. I saw them when they were in Dallas and that was, by far, the best concert I have ever been too in my whole life. Now, we just have to wait five more years for thei new album Just like Nintendo

I just got a Panic! at the Disco, Hurt, Ozzy, Three Days Grace, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and All American Rejects cd, and i feel dissapointed in all cds except for ozzy. Panic! at the disco was okay, and i was interested in the larger amount of instruments used, but too many sounded the same to me. Hurt was okay, but they stretched the songs out and could never improve upon Rapture, the only saving quality of this album. Ozzy was Ozzy, Three Days Grace was okay, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers wasnt rocky enough. I didnt even take the time to listen to any other songs on the All American Rejects cd except for the singles. Any suggestions for cds?

Holy snap, Ian and I agree on something. STOP THE PRESSES!

lawl @ green day being labelled rock. Am I the only one who remembers Dookie? Go listen to their International Superhits album and think again - they aren't rock. They're mainstream punk.
Whoever mentioned Cake gets a cookie for their taste in music. HE'S STRIVING AND DRIVING AND HUGGING THE TURNS! AND THINKING OF SOMEONE FOR WHOM HE STILL BURNS
Same thing for mentioning Bad Religion. I've been blasting out their albums No Control, Tested and The Empire Strikes First. Very slick punk.
and Radiohead are overrated. I expected to see more ZOMG RADIOHEAD people but its good to see that some parts of the interweb aren't full of idiots.

Agreed. Too bad because they are one of my favorite bands. I did enjoy what APC offered up in between Lateralus and 10,000 Days (not including Emotive), but yeah it is going to suck to have to wait another 5 years for a Tool Album. Modern Rock is dying a slow death, too many bands who sound too similar. I really started getting into classic rock lately and that has provided for a plethora of new music for me. Queen's discography along with AC/DC's and Led Zeppelin's provides for days of listening.

Quote (not including Emotive)
Emotive is the worst excuse for an album I've ever heard. It's so bad it lowers the credability of APC's other albums by association.
Quote and Radiohead are overrated. I expected to see more ZOMG RADIOHEAD people but its good to see that some parts of the interweb aren't full of idiots.
Radiohead is awesome. Sure, it may be trendy to like them, but bands tend to sell a lot of albums for a reason--they're good. What exactly don't you find appealing about Radiohead? Thom Yorke's solo album is mediocre.
I recently got into a hard rock/punk band called Tub Ring. They're very Mike Patton-ish. I highly recommend anyone who's into the style of music to check them out. You can download some full songs off their three albums at tubring.com. Unfortunately, the two sample songs off their latest album are probably the weakest/more generic songs on the album.

I have to agree with Mr. Jack. New rock has become very similar, and i find nothing interesting in anything. I have to admit though, Panic! at the Disco is interesting. They dont follow the normal trend, and combine there rock with band instruments and create a new sense of rock. In one of their songs they use a cello for the solo, it sounds pretty awesome. I am also listening to older rock, and considering going out to get a new queen cd. Also, even though Stevie Ray Vaughn is bluesy, you need to check him out. He was an amazing guitarist and died to young. Im going out to get a Stone Sour cd, good or bad?

If you like Stone Sour (I'm a fan) you should enjoy their new CD. I'd say I like it equal to their first offering, though Through Glass is an amazing song and I think it is by far the best song on the disc.

OK Computer is one of my favourite albums of all time, not too much of a fan of Kid A and Amnesiac, but Hail to the Theif was a decent return to form.

Tool sucks. I'm sorry, but I feel very strongly about this. Tool being completely overplayed (and the fact that every song they've made in the past 10 years sounds exactly the same) is the main reason I don't listen to FM radio anymore. Yes, you read that right, the MAIN REASON.

Anybody here an Incubus fan? I love them, but their new CD is pretty terrible. Anna Molly is a great song, but the rest of the CD is really subpar for them. I guess I should've seen the decline starting with A Crow Left of the Murder, but I was blinded by love. It seems like every band I really loved growing up just fell to the wayside recently. Korn, System of a Down, even Tool, and now Incubus (amongst countless others). I guess I will remain in musical limbo right now, trying to find something new to enjoy.

Where the fuk do you live? I hear TOOL on the radio once a month IF I'm lucky. Every song they've made in the past 10 years sound exactly the same? Listen to the songs that share the names of their respective albums then come back to me. Opiate, Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days.
I like Incubus but their past 2 or 3 (I'm not sure how many they've released) have been extremely disappointing, the last album I liked by them is the one that has Warning on it, the name of it escapes me.
Oh and I like Emotive, it disappoints me that they would get involved in the political scene, but it's a the diversity of the album and varying moods is what I like, and sorry to say but Passive(the only real original song on the album Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums doesn't count for me since it's basically a remix of Pet) is one of my all time favorite APC songs.

Warning was on Morning View (an amazing album). A Crow Left of the Murder came after that and that is when they started getting a little weak. Most songs on the CD were still good just 1 or 2 really bad ones. This new one, Light Grenades, is a good 90% garbage which is really disappointing for such a versatile band.

Well APC had themselves in the political scene with Thirteenth Step (nearly every song on the album is alluding to some political matter/figure), Emotive was just alot more blatant about it. I was just not very impressed by any of their remakes and I know they just slapped it together to get out of contractual agreeements so I can't really hold it against them (though you should take pride in what you do, no matter what). To each his own though. Emotive just didn't do anything for me and quite frankly I thought it was an embarrasment when compared to Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step.

I don't know what's wrong with you people; Morning View sucked. Incubus got a little taste of success with a few tracks off of Make Yourself and tried to do an entire album full of watered down mainstream pop-rock songs. The album was a huge disappointment. A Crow Left of The Murder was much better. I haven't heard too much off of Light Grenades, but from the little I have heard it's pretty good. However, I think we can all agree that they'll never come close to topping S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and we should all just learn to live with it.

I live in Melbourne, Florida. There's 2 Orlando rock stations and 1 local station, they're always playing Tool, at least when I turn it on. I've never been a fan, but I did like their old songs on the radio/TV like Prison Sex and Sober.

I agree that Incubus will never top S.C.I.E.N.C.E. but I always associate Morning View with the Gamecube launch and it just carries some really fond memories for me. It is a very relaxing album and I usually put it on for summer night driving because it fits the mood so well (plus Aqueous Transmission is one of my favorite Incubus songs). To each his own I suppose.
