Title: yay, new rumored tech specs
Post by: wandering on June 03, 2006, 02:28:13 PM
A supposed interview with someone from UbiSoft was posted and then taken down from Easy Nintendo recently. You can read it here.

He apparently confirms that "the graphics chip [is] somewhere inbetween the ATI Radeon X1400 and the Radeon X1600, and the CPU to between the AthlonXP 2400+ and the AthlonXP 3000+", among other things that my feeble non-technical mind can't really understand.

Of course, this is almost certainly fake.

When it comes down to it I agree with the poster in the forum, 60 fps. Thats where it's at, the graphics don't need to be as amazing as possible as long as we get 60 fps. The play experience is just so much smoother at 60 fps its ridiculous. No matter what the graphics are the Wii is still going to rock the house hardcore.

That interview has been around for a bit, and while the specs are not as rediculous as past rumors and fake interviews have revealed, the whole thing still smells like BS.
The little bit about "ragdoll" being touted as an "innovative use of physics" just sounds like someone with very little technical understanding throwing around terms they've heard elsewhere, rather than a project lead on a next-gen (or new gen or whatever...) title.

Can't find the link, but the IGN boards had a topic about this and an IGN person went in and editted it as confirmed fake from Ubisoft.

The supposed final build of the dev kit is supposed to drop this month, right? I hope IGN let's us know the specs.

It's a complicated, dysfunctional relationship we fanboys have with Casamassina

Why is it linked to an Xbox forum!?

ha. Because they have the full text of the interview and a good discussion about it (the arstechnica forum thread I got the info from was none too active, and the original source of the interview has been taken down)

Anyway, here's a fascinating discussion between the person who supposedly conducted the interview (chosen_colette), the person who supposedly wrote the questions for the interview (fearsomepirate), and forum members. Chosen_collete says ubisoft broke some NDAs and now wants everyone to think the interview is fake, even though it isn't - so she edited out the hardware specs, and then removed the interview. Fearsomepirate says he trusts his associate, but wants proof in the form of the interview's audio. Chosen_collete says she'll give the audio to fearsomepirate in a few days, when she gets the cable she needs from Radio Shack.

(This thing is so fake it isn't even funny.)

I dunno what to believe...but, the interview read didn't seem too revealing or fake...however, it is easy to fake an interview where the person says I can't comment or wait til Tokyo Game Show for most of the answers.

...they don't give ad revenue to the people who did the interview. Well, except the one.
