Title: Elebits...coming soon to the Nintendo 64?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on May 25, 2006, 05:02:04 AM
Yes, I know, everyone hates graphics and the only thing that matters is gameplay, and we should all be happy playing 2D black and white video games with the Wii controller...but seriosly, this is one of the visually worst looking games I've seen in YEARS.

I was dissapointed that after releasing the cool concept art, the E3 demo was some boring kitchen scenario.

I do think this game has a lot of potential. I gues/ hope that the graphics are very, very early
stage. If not, then this is one sorry ass game. But i think we'll all have to trust the developper. I can't imagine him delivering a bad (or bad looking) game.

I was more disappointed that there really wasn't a "game" shown at E3...I couldn't care less if the graphics are rudimentary if the game is compelling, so I'll hold further comments until they are actually finished...

Basically they have an interesting and somewhat buggy concept.  Talking to a Konami rep, he said specifically that Katamari was one of the biggest inspirations for the game.  They want to create a world where everything is movable.  In a world like that, as in Katamari, visuals are gonna be lacking.  It just isn't technically feasible.

I had a lot of fun with what was essentially an engine demo.  I did manage to crash it though, which is what I was trying to do.  The Wii remote gives you a lot of control over the objects.  So much control that I was able to lodge a fridge in the floor of the house, which caused it to fall through and then the entire game went screamer style with a lock up.

Even given that, I walked away with a good impression of what they had.  It's pure game design in the sense that their idea may not turn out to be any fun at all, but it's an interesting chance they are taking.  We wouldn't have games like Katamari, or even DDR, if someone didn't take a chance at some point.

I'm not sure what you think is more fun than yanking a turkey out of the oven and flinging it across the room.

When that turkey has the exact same weight and resistance as the giant house outside, the fun starts to wear thin.

Give this game a "batteries not included" vibe and I'm sold.

Hopefully, they will sort out the weight and mass issues by its release.

Wow...I wasn't interested in this game until I read the description.

Remember this was a very early build.  Sounds like with added game mechanics and extra development time this game could totally rock.

It's a launch title, read: "added game mechanics and extra development time" ain't gonna happen. Unless the demo they showed us was completed in December, and the game itself has a larger premise than just roaming around houses. (The concept art looks wicked.)

It looks better than Chibi-Robo (<-- a GameCube game).  Go back to your home planet of rubber duckies and toy story giant crab ridge racers.

Still interested in this, though I have my doubts.  Sounds neat, but who knows.

The trailer, on the other hand, was incredibly awesome.  There was a song and dance number and everything.  GO ELEBITS

Guys don't! Konami will read this and scrap the project in favour of another exclusive Disney Soccer game! Watch out!

When he was tossing the houses around I couldn't keep myself from whistling the Katamari Damacy theme...

I was pleased by the gameplay, but the concept art looked so surreal and interesting, I dont see any of that in that kitchen.

Ive already seen two videos and in both people seem to have trouble opening the door to get out of the house, why is that?

To open the door you have to grab hold if it with the zapper, then rotate the Wii Remote in a clockwise motion.

Opening the door is nothing compared to merely picking up a single object. Notice the guy in the video can't get his fingers (zapper) on the glowing orb. The angle of his view is the culprit. There's a trash bin and a dishwasher that the guy in the video doesn't touch - getting the appropriate angle on those was difficult when I played the E3 demo. The game needs to feature a ducking action, or something, so that you can look above and under things. Also, with cabinet doors flying open but then slowing closing, it's very difficult to zap everything you want.

Ok, I watched the video. That does not look like a N64 game. go lookup some Conker screenshots or something and compare.
