This doesn't make any sense, hasn't the official word been that they can't port the original version?  And why would they port a DS game to the PS2?

What?  Why couldn't they port the original version?  That sounds like crazy talk to me...unless there is some legal implication, I can't imagine there'd be any technical issue with emulating an NES game on PS2.

But I don't listen to rumours from places called Game Labo.

I clearly remember talk about how difficult, if not impossible to port the game because of the strange way the game was coded or something.  That it was easier to just remake the game instead.

They could always emulate a NES playing the original if they really wanted to make the original available, though I doubt they really want to make it available with no enhancements, since they've added things to every rerelease so far.

I think it's nonsense. Why would they port such a handheld game to the PS2 where people expect much better graphics? They could maybe port it to the PS.

FF3 DS supposedly doesn't make much use of the DS's unique features.

And it's "better than PSone" graphics were probably somewhat expensive to produce, and since they're polygon-based they could very well look better if ported to the PS2.

And while the original version apparently can't be ported, nor can it be the foundation of a remake, it can pretty easily be emulated and tossed in for free with a full remake.

And the latest FMV shots are in a 4:3 aspect ratio, at just about 640x480 resolution (600x450), which is totally wrong for the DS, but just right for a home console.

I figure if the FMV shots aren't direct confirmation of a PS2 port, they're at least a giveaway that Square's building the game to be the definitive version of FF3, to be used now and in the future, and not just a custom-tailored DS-exclusive game.

Wouldn't that requite translation?  And doesn't translation require messing around with the supposedly impossible to crack code?

Every Final Fantasy game is playable on the PS2 except FF3.  So it actually makes a lot of sense for them to release a PS2 version.

Though I find it very odd that suddenly porting the original version is doable.

Translation is easier than porting. Just find the script, delete the hex codes that point to Japanese letters, and replace them with ones that point to English ones. Porting means trying to get the entire game to run on something it wasn't built for.

I still find this new strange.  if it were a psp game instead of a ds game, I wouldn't find it odd, as rockstar is bringing GTA:VCS to the ps2, after probably horrible sales.

This just doesn't make any logical sense because we all know the game is going to sell like final fantasy hotcakes over in japan... and i doubt the game will look good on the ps2 compared to other ps2 games, and will be ridiculed for being a ds port.

meh. its a remake of an old game... if I was Square I'd put it everywhere they can.

If they're indeed translating the original version we'll probably see it available for Wii

Maybe IF sales are really cruddy they will port it over, but that is very unlikely. I bet its just Sony fans wishful thinking that it will be ported over.
The game is pretty much designed from the ground up for the DS, If it were to be ported over alot of work would have to go into it to make the game look good on a big screen. If anything a port would be better fit for the PSX not the PS2.

let alone taking out the second screen, even though I don't know for sure what the second screen is for.

porting would be pretty pointless, because it wouldn't look very nice......unless they're making the game in high def/poly and then porting it to the DS.....
