Title: Brand New - PGC Podcast, Episode 1
Post by: Svevan on May 16, 2006, 09:50:17 PM
No one asked for it, but you got it: PGC has started a PodCast. It's roughly a half-hour show starring Mike Sklens (Striker Obi) and myself, Evan T. Burchfield (Svevan). We talk, talk, and talk some more, almost entirely about E3 and Wii.

Interested? Click here.

MP3 Version Now Available! Click Me!

This is our first attempt, and we had to overcome some major technical hurdles. We'll be improving sound quality with subsequent shows, and constantly refining format. For now it will be Mike and I, but expect guests from the staff and...elsewhere...to pop up often.

And we want to know what you think! Should we keep doing this? How often? What worked and what didn't? Did you like it? Feel free to engage in discussion in this thread, and also to e-mail us at podcast@planetgamecube.com. Be critical, but be nice; it was our first try.

Podcast, eh? Seems interesting - I'll definitely listen to it later and maybe give some feedback..

Just finished listening. I really enjoyed it - thought it kicks the snot out of your average videogame podcast, actually.

Evan sounds sort-of sounds like Quentin Tarantino.

My only complaint is that the audio quality could be a bit better.

Any chance of this coming in a MP3 format?

Smell the grass...

In five years, maybe we will get to smell the grass.  Nintendo is making a statement with their speaker in the controller that the game doesn't stop at the TV screen.

What do you guys think Nintendo's long term strategy is with Wii?  As in, what comes after Zelda and Metroid at launch, Mario Galaxy six months later (hopefully two player), and Red Steel if they delay it a year to turn it into a good game?  What will Mario Universe be like in two years, will Spore go Wii exclusive, what about a radically new kind of Zelda in 09, will there be any big new IPs, what will be the game that makes everyone say, "oh, that is how you control a game with the remote(s)," will we get a proper Star Wars game with 3D saber control, and will the next Metroid after Prime 3 make a departure from Prime to become something more epic (like Spore and Mario Galaxy).

I've been asking for a radioshow/podcast for years. Before everybody else was doing one. Before "podcast" became the term for it.

Better late than never. I enjoyed it.

I like, I like! While I would love for you guys to do these things weekly, I wonder how feasible that would be. Like this first one and the next one, you'll be talking about E3. There's a TON of crap to discuss about E3. But what about in a month when there's not so much news or going-ons? What will be discussed then? I guess that's where my awesome ideas come in. What I would enjoy is other members of the PGC staff do audio reviews of games that someone else posted on the site to give more then one opinion on said games. Clearly, audio reviews would be different then the written variety because you can curse a blue streak on the podcasts. Also, I would like to hear debates between staffers on whatever the hot topic issues in gaming are these days. I dunno, that's rather basic stuff, but I will definitely listen to more of this.

You guys said something that intrigued me. Something about how the dev kits were used to play the demos and games. However, over at Nintendo-wii.blogspot.com, Falafelkid had a different opinion (fact, maybe).

"Finally, some people were still wondering what system wii games were running on. I have said this before: all 27 games were running on the actual console. No dev kits were necessary."

Who should I trust?

Also Pale --- I was waiting for you to say something out of Pulp fiction cause GOOOOOOOOOD DAMMMMMMN! You even laugh like him!

hahahaha, nothing against you though

YEAH!   I listen to a bunch of diffrent Tech/Gaming related pocasts and videocasts, and I was actually just wondering if you guys here planning on doing something along those lines.  I'll listen to what we have here, and I'll be back with what I think!

I posted pics in the "Sony using PC's at E3(NOT PS3 hardware)" thread;

What they were actually running on looked like GameCubes, annd must have been the "souped-up" Gamecubes(Rev Dev kits) that have been mentioned b4.

OMG!!! Is that a GC under there?

I think you're right, Wii = GC 1.5

Nintendo is doooomed!!

PS360 = FTW....

Looks like a bunch of GC's to me, but I'm sure they are Dev Kits.

Nice find. You got a good eye. I would have never seen that.

Requiem: I don't know who you thought was Pale, but it was neither of us. The staff actually got him and I mixed up when we all first met at E3, which I find funny. But don't worry, we'd be stupid not to include Pale in future broadcasts.

MP3 format is something we're considering - I'd expect it by the next broadcast.

Well the good news is that means that the final graphics will be a bit better than what we saw at E3, plus the overall hardware quality will probably be higher, since they were using Dev kits at E3 rather than fianlized Wii consoles.

Don't worry about confusing us.. I'm thankful for E3... now I can easily remember who most people are =P

Also, one key difference between Evan and I....  I LIKE WII CONTROLS IN TP!  =P

Let me explain the audio problems. I had my headset mic plugged in, but somewhere along the line I got things reversed and ended up recording my half of the audio from the speaker built into my Apple Powerbook. As such, it picked up some ambient noise (such as the laptop's fan). The white noise in the background should be gone next week, seeing as I'll be using the correct microphone.

I'm the one mixing it, if anybody is interested. I'm recording my half direct into GarageBand and then importing Evan's half in. Then I like up the vocal sand edit out the parts where we talk over each other, and other flubs. I finish it with intro/outro music, and ship it off to iTunes in AAC (m4a) format. I can convert it to mp3 from there no problem, and will do so for the next one.

Ooooooh I do love me some podcast RSS feeds.  So I guess we'll be listed in the iTunes Music Store soon!

Also I have been asked to provide some new intro/outro music.  We'll see what happens.

EGM podcast

new 1up podcast

EGM doesn't like the Wii graphics, they say the Wii is fun but they are concerened that the gaphics are too archaic in their opinion.

Also they had trouble with the Zelda Wii controls, obviously its not a game that someone can just pick up and learn, maybe Nintendo will tweak the control scheme and make it easier to learn.
