Title: Elebits, what the fudgesicle?
Post by: Svevan on May 14, 2006, 08:24:17 PM

I think the game was just shown WAY too early. It's obvious a lot of imagination and creativity is going into this game, it just didn't come through very well in the lame E3 demo.

The E3 demo took place in a setting that was so mundane and boring.
Hopefully the real game will feature more colorful fantasy environments like in the art.

Isn't it supposed to be a launch game?

"Isn't it supposed to be a launch game?"

Actually, I do seem to recall hearing that.
So maybe the game will just suck.

Here's hoping they let you take your zapper into the fantasy setting in that picture. That would be...well, freaking weird, but perhaps sweet as well.

Well crap, I hope it doesn't suck cause then people wont buy it. Then Konami will think the poor sales are due to the Wii and won't release any of their cool games on the Wii like Silent Hill or Castlevania or MGS.

You know, kinda like they did with Disney sports titles on the cube.

Well, I was interested, and I thought Konami might actually make a game I liked for a change.
Oh well.

Hey yeah Evan.. You really should have watched the trailer at Konami's booth! =P

I'm gonna write some more optimistic impressions at some point this week.

Well, that trailer doesn't change my mind about what I played in the demo, but it does show that perhaps there's more to the concept than was visible in that 5 minutes. I'll definitely revisit the thing come launch, and I would love to hear what you have to say about it, Pale.

For the first time ever, a trailer left me more confused then I started.

"Is this a Dr. Seuss licensed game?"
"WHAT ELSE DID THEY BRING US, DISEMBODIED VOICE?!"
"I don't remember it being mentioned that elebit is code for 'diabetic pikmin.'"
"It looks more like an insect infestation then 'living peacefully with the people.'"
"Wait...is this game about choreography?"
"That is certainly a wedding cake"
"Oh okay, it's a game about Aztec ritualistic suicide, leaping from step pyrmaids"
"This drumbeat is afully chipper given the flattened nature of the former leader."
"Oh and they dance on the dead..."
"Get the hell out of my dishes!  I just washed those!"

I shall take the brave step of saying something good about this game:

It reminds me of "Batteries not included."

Yeah, I can't see the video from where I'm at, but it seems the game's primary mechanic was missing from the demo:

Quote

IGN: So what is the plot and main story of Elebits?

Konami: The Elebits are the world's source of energy. One day they stop generating power and hide all across the world. In the first scene of the game you are in the dark, and as you collect the Elebits you will begin to accumulate power for the room. For the demo version that we have on the floor, we are just running a simplified version, so that is why it is always bright and all the electricity is on.

IGN: That being the case, from level to level will there be progression with the energy?

Konami: If you gather enough energy for a room, the playable area will expand. Have you seen the toaster in the demo?

IGN: Yes.

Konami: If you get enough energy to turn the toaster on, any Elebits that may be hiding in that toaster will run out so you can capture them. This idea expands as the game progresses.

The whole idea of slowly increasing the world's energy as you progress sounds really interesting...I hope the game winds up being good.

It sounds reallly.....well........maticulous.

That trailer was the wierdest thing I've ever seen.

And yes they do look like diabetic pikmin.

I really liked how you suddenly could pick up houses and throw them around, that was very Katamari like. The kitchen scenario itself was boring though, but I actually liked what I saw, it was like gravity gun without the boring parts of it (think last level of halflife 2, that was the only one I trully enjoyed)

Elebits still sounds awesome, and that trailer was even stupider/cooler than the Rayman trailer.
But I'm still iffy.  Get it right Konami, this could be cool.
