NOA's VP of Sales and Marketing, Reginald Fils-Aime (call him Reggie), made an appearance at the Nintendo World Store in New York yesterday afternoon. He signed autographs and answered questions for the Nintendo faithful that were lined up since the early morning hours.
Gaming website Trigames.net was among the crowd, and managed to record some of Reggie's responses to questions that were asked. There are a few tidbits of info here and there in the transcript of his comments, but perhaps the most significant was what he said after the questioning stopped.
On his own initiative, Fils-Aime said, "I'm going to give one little secret. Only one little secret, and hopefully I won't lose my job. We're going to show a racing game at E3 where you use the core controller in a very different way. That will answer all the questions to how you'll play a racing game."
Nintendo has a bunch of racing games in their stable of titles. Reggie could be referring to a new F-Zero, Wave Race or Mario Kart game on the Wii, but naturally, there's no way of knowing for sure at this point in time.
Hopefully, Reggie will still have his job when Nintendo's May 9th pre-E3 press conference gets under way.

I wonder why the console Wave Race games were launches. Maybe to show off water effects?
Didn't someone in another board here on the PlanetGameCube forums talk about this already, though? Something about using something extra for shifting gears or something?
(I can't beat F-Zero GX's Story Mode Chapter 7, since some of you are comparing. Man, that game is difficult.)
Anyway, while it could be a Mario Kart or F-Zero game, both of which could be awesome, somehow I get the feeling that those would be for later since everyone's going to be too busy playing the next Smash Bros. and you know how Nintendo likes to space out their big releases. If we're to expect it this year, I'd wager it's a different franchise...and I don't think it'd be Pokémon Dash.

I liked the Grand Prix more, though. As hard as you think it is in Master Cup the first time, you really do improve a lot if you keep practising. I was able to get first in nearly every track on Master Difficulty. The only exceptions were Big Blue: Drift Highway and the last track in the Diamond Cup, Phantom Road - Slits. Those two, try as I might, I just couldn't even get into the top 5 without some luck. Those were the only two unfair tracks. But it didn't matter anyway, since you didn't need many points to win a Cup.
There were some other adrenaline-pumpers, but none of those were unfair. Mute City: Serial Gaps and Lightning:Half Pipe come to mind - those were definitely difficult but you could win them easily if you're good enough. On the rest, even on Master Cup, first place by a wide margin, after some practise, is attainable.
If you beat all the Cups on Master, you unlock the AX Cup, which includes the tracks of the arcade version of the game. Please, do this. No matter how difficult it may seem, when you unlock it, it's a great feeling.
Wow, this makes me feel like playing the game again AND writing a review..

I would LOVE a new Waverace but unfortunately I don't think we'll ever get one.
Waverace 64 was a HUGE hit but the sequel on the Gamecube just didn't do anywhere near as well.
I think it's probably a dead franchise. I think a 1080 sequel is more likely but If I recall even that title didn't live up to expectations.
I actually do think this will be a realistic driving game. Nintendo is branching out and making games we wouldn't normally expect from it. We'll still get Mario Kart and FZero, but I think those will come later.
I honestly believe that if Nintendo indeed tries it will make a racing sim that will put all the Gran Turismo games to shame.

Just label a arcade game as simulator such as Gran Turismo, and people will love it
while read racing simulator players, play live for speed and GT legends :P

Anyway. Racing game. I'm kind of imagining holding the core controller on it's side, holding with both hands, titlting forward to accelerate, tilting left and right to turn. Someone made a good mockup with similiar controls for WaveRace a while back.

"Rewriting the rules of marketing" though - I'm a little doubtful that Nintendo can pull that off. They aren't exactly the best at projecting the right image for the company.

Besides, I think I heard Rare took the game and converted it to Banjo-Kazooie Racing for the XBox.
I don't recall that game ever coming out but knowing Rare it could still be in development after all these years.
Probably launch with the XBox 2010.
