Title: Famitsu-ton!
Post by: Mario on April 24, 2006, 06:27:04 PM
Famitsu are revealing brand new Nintendo Revolution games in thier next issue, which comes out in about 24 hours (well, the mag comes out to stores on Friday I think but it's always leaked on Wednesday). It's supposed to be a "major" exclusive. Could this possibly mean it's a Nintendo first party game? Something from Capcom? Sega? A full blown NiGHTS Revolution preview? A game that will shake the very foundations of the earth? Who knows!

*sigh* I want to believe we will have more than just titles, but I just don't believe we will see many screenshots.
It has been really cool to finally get Revolution information, but it just seems to trickle and tease instead of satisfy.
Until screens and movies are available I just feel like all us Nintendo and Revolution fans are being Blue Balled until E3.

It's all foreplay, which just makes the climax better.
Also, the E3 conference is only an hour, they can't possibly fit everything in then... just the biggest things.

Mario see to me the Conference is the Fore the play. Its the big reveal. Seeing her completely for the first time.
The showroom floor when you get to play the games is the main event.

See, though, I tend to blow all of my excitement prematurely on the big reveal.
Seriously, Cube Club 2002. I just couldn't get excited playing some of the games because I had seen so much footage already.

I associate the speech as more of firing the starting pistol or better yet cutting the ribbon on a new building. You'll get a good speech telling why this is great for the future and the great things about it and then your allowed to flood in and see all the great and left out stuff yourself.
Title: RE: Famitsu-ton!
Post by: Spak-Spang on April 25, 2006, 06:39:52 AM
Ceric:
Exactly. The Speech is to get you excited about the show and to encourage you to stop by the booth. The speech should have most of the things you will see at the booth in it...and a few things not available for the booth.
The Speech truly is for raising the excitement level.
Now to me, since I can't go to E3. The floor room describtions of the game and the excitement levels from the media actually playing the games and observing others play is what excites me the most.
The Speech is Four Play
and the Floor Room is all out Nintendo Orgy goodness.

Post by: Artimus on April 25, 2006, 06:42:49 AM
If you don't go to E3 then the speech is what it's all about. Why? Because that's when you FIND OUT about stuff. If you're not going to play it, it's the finding out that's exciting.
Title: RE: Famitsu-ton!
Post by: Spak-Spang on April 25, 2006, 06:50:41 AM
Artimus: Not completely. I want to find out about it. But I want to know peoples reactions.
Do they enjoy the games? Are they fun to play? What are the crowds like at all the booths? How is everyone receiving Nintendo this time around? Where is the largest buzz and excitement?
None of those questions can be answered at just the Press Conference.
Title: RE: Famitsu-ton!
Post by: Mario on April 25, 2006, 06:58:52 AM
Those are good, but there's just nothing like the atmosphere at press conference time, for that one hour everyone on the entire internet is refreshing their browsers and watching the live feed or live updates to see just what is what. There's nothing more I need to know after that, the after-conference things are just the icing on the cake for me, like a game of SSBM the morning after.
Anyway, Famitsu-ton incoming.

I don't even think E3 is comparable to sex.
It's so much better. I think the speech is orgasm, and then the orgasm just doesn't stop. It keeps relapsing constantly for the next three days. Then you have to sit back, sore like you never thought possible, dry as the dust, and realize you've got to get it back up for New Super Mario Brothers.

Famitsu-ton confirmed a flop. Rev wont have games, so they can't reveal any, it was a joke by the crafty Famitsu guys.
Tekken 6 for PS3 is the big story, everyone is shocked.
... seriously though, some guy has the magazine but hasn't said anything about the Rev stuff, yet he went out of his way to say it had some generic Tekken 6 surprise announcement for PS3. Waiting for someone competent to get the mag and post on the internet.

Well, you could give the extra seats to female game journalists only. But I guess that would require the existence of female game journalists.

The game is produced by Shingo Mukaitouge, who worked on Guitar Freaks. You hunt cute pikmin-like creatures called Elebits (electricity bits) - energy sources that make the world move (?). You'll be able to find them by moving things in the game world. As you capture the Elebits, the world evolves (?).
According to Konami, the game will make you make you feel like you are touching the inside of the screen, and wouldn't be possible with exisiting controllers.

Elebits sounds like a really cool game. One thing I like about it aside from the fact that it's a unique idea is that its got personality. Red Steel doesn't have that. It sounds like a cool game but it's very generic looking. One thing I love about Nintendo's games is that they have personality. They stand out. Elebits looks like it will stand out.
Title: RE:Famitsu-ton!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on April 26, 2006, 08:19:14 AM
I agree that Red steel does look a bit generic. But you have to take into consideration that we only have seen blurry screens. maybe the personality of the characters will be expressed through dialogue and body language.
Red steel also looks like the kind of game that sells on gameplay, not story or characters. After all, the characters in the GTA games are blatant stereotypes with one track personalities, and look how the game sells.

"Red Steel doesn't have that. It sounds like a cool game but it's very generic looking."
I disagree. Red Steel isn't spectacular (it's hard to involve vivid personality into a FPS game like that) as far as that goes, but it's far from generic. The style and design looks much, much more distinctive than most FPS games I've seen or played. It's easy to make something quirky like Katamari or Elebits charming, much harder to give a FPS a distinctive feel. Red Steel isn't as unique, but it's far from generic.

I never played pikmin, and elebits doesn't sound too interesting to me... overall this news was very blah to me.
A golf game... i suck at golf, if it can teach me a good swing so that when i go to the driving range with my monster friends who consistently drive 200+ yards maybe i won't be doing 50 footers anymore then i might rent it.
Elebits... for me this is a i'll wait for more info then probably never pick it up anyway. Red steel however as soon as i got the first rather meager information about the game i wanted it.
Who knows maybe more info about Elebits will change my mind, the only thing that piqued my interest was the "world evolving" mention. how that is developed and integrated into gameplay would be the only thing changing my mind, maybe the hunting aspect too, but it'd have to be coupled with the world evolution.

Without further information, allow me to speculate as to what sort of game elebits is...
Platform gameplay: Elebits allows players to move around and xplore a world in search of the titular creatures Adventure/Exploration gameplay: Because elebits are hidden and will require players to actively search for them, this is more of an adventure/exploration bit 3D Object manipulation: It's mentioned that elebits are found by picking up or moving objects via the freehand, possibly a 3D object manipulation thing via gestures Music: The designer's pedigree and the "electric bits" lead me to believe that audio feedback will play at least a minor role in the game Expanding world: The evolving world statement makes one think that the main purpose of finding elebits is to solve puzzles that open up new areas for exploration Puzzle gameplay: Perhaps in order to expand the world and unlock new areas players will use elebits to solve puzzles

"I never played pikmin"
Well that's your first mistake. Magnificent game. I love quirky titles like Elebits, sounds very much like my cup of tea. Now, I think the comparison to Pikmin is being taken too seriously. They're small, but that's it. Otherwise it's a different game. They shouldn't have compared the two. I think Kairon is on pretty much the right track. Though the evolving world made me think, as you gather these energy creatures elebits, the world will actually evolve. Not just expand. It'll become more complex, and finding new elebits to get farther will involve new and more advanced skills. They will be less common, and there will be more room to search. But that's just speculation. Looking forward to more info

We got DDR Mario Mix in 2005. Before that we had Yu-Gi-Oh, Frogger's Adventures, Evolution Snowboarding and TMNT in 2003 and TMNT2 in 2004. There were also some Disney Sports titles mixed in there somewhere.

We definitely don't know enough about Red Steel to completely write it off yet, but yeah, I get the sense of it being "generic tough guy protagonist" kicking the asses of the generic bad guys too. Ubi's not known for the depth of it's characters, so that's biasing me somewhat of course.

...as opposed to those other action/advneture games in which the inner conflicts of character's psyches are subtly teased out through an illuminating, character-driven plot. Not saying such a game doesn't exist - I don't know, there are thousands of games out there I haven't played - but any action/adventure with decent characterization has got to be in a tiny minority at best.

No, but it would provide it something unique so that it would standout from all the other generic crap. The reason the PC title was successful was because it was essentially an MMO golf game. Take that away and all you have is a mediocre golf game.
