Title: Want to Play the Revolution?
Post by: Svevan on April 20, 2006, 08:56:36 PM
One lucky consumer (read: not journalist) gets to play it before anyone else. Will it be you?

Nintendo and AOL.com Seek the First Consumer to Play Revolution

Sweepstakes Winner Will Be First in the World to Play Nintendo's Next Home Console

REDMOND, Wash., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Nintendo and AOL.com are in hot pursuit to pick one lucky video game fan to fly to Los Angeles to be the first in the world to play Nintendo's next home console, code-named Revolution.

After signing up at www.aol.com/nintendo-first-to-play, three finalists for Nintendo's First-to-Play Sweepstakes will attend Nintendo's international media briefing on May 9 prior to the start of the Electronics Entertainment Expo, the most important video game industry event of the year.  The winner will appear on stage to experience the new console in front of thousands of top industry insiders and reporters.

"No consumer has ever played this new Nintendo system before," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.  "But more importantly, no one has ever interacted with video games in this way before.  Our next home console will revolutionize how people play and experience video games."

The new Nintendo console will open the world of video games to new audiences through the use of its innovative controller.  Shaped like a remote control, it allows users to direct the action on the television screen through the motion of the controller itself.

"As one of the leading game destinations on the Web, we are thrilled to partner with Nintendo to give our AOL Games community the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the very first person to play the highly anticipated Revolution console," said Ralph Rivera, Vice President & General Manager, AOL Games.

People can enter the sweepstakes between April 21 and April 28 by registering at www.aol.com/nintendo-first-to-play.  Entrants do not need to be members of AOL.  Three finalists chosen at random will fly with one guest each for a two-night stay in Los Angeles.  The three finalists will enjoy VIP seating at Nintendo's media briefing in Hollywood at the Kodak Theatre, home to the Oscars.  One of the finalists will be selected at random to step onto the stage and usher in the new era of video games. Entrants must be 18 or older.  For more information about Nintendo's First to Play Sweepstakes, visit www.aol.com/nintendo-first-to-play.

Shaaa-RIGHT!  So I can pass out from stage fright or look like a 'tard 'cause I ain't doin' it right.....I'll take my chances on the show floor in relative anonymity, thank you very MUCH!

well, I think I will enter, just in the .0001 chance I win (probably a few more zeros would be appropriate), lol.  But what the heck.

One thing mistakenly left out of the Press Release is that the winner, if he be from PGC, will get to meet the staff of PGC and hang out with them the entire time. NO RLY.

Why would we want to hang out with y'all when we'd get to hang out with Mario and the crew? (just teasing!!!)

Do I want to play the Revolution? Yes.

Do I want to become the next Star Wars kid? No.

I'll pass.

The next Star Wars kid? Hmmm....

It's a small price to pay, my eternal dignity besmotted by the intraweb for a hands-on preview of the Revolution controller?

A small price....but I'm still scared....

Forget playing the thing, just being there for Nintendo's sure-to-be momentous announcements this year would be AMAZING. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play it, but I can't even imagine how nervous I'd be being the first civilian playing the Revolution with SHIGERU F'N MIYAMOTO standing over my shoulder. I'm sure they would ask "How'd you like it?" and any response you give in that situation is going to make you sound like you're a total tool. But yeah, sign me the hell up.

You only get to win once in your life, would you rather be the first to play the Revolution or win the lotto?

But on the onther hand I never play the lotto, and you have to play to win, so I'll give it a shot.

I bet they'll give the winner some prep time with the controller before the briefing so he's on par with whoever he'll play against.

I just entered.  I'll probably get tons of AOL spam now.  And I'll probably be too scared to accept even if I win.  Why did I do this again?

I'll make you all a deal:  If I win, I'll take you with me as my guest.  If one of you win, you have to take me.  Deal?

You know.  Who cares about stage fright.  You will be playing Nintendo probably with Reggie, Shiggy and crew.

You will be able to go to the entire show and see every booth and everthing.

I won't win...but if I do.  I am going to have a hard decision to make.  Who to take.  My wife, or my best friend who loves gaming.  I think I would take my best friend.

What you should engineer is for your wife to become your best friend by E3. Then the moral dilemma would cease to exist!

Yes, please.

Are you supposed to get an email confirmation that you signed up? I guess I'll find out when the spam rolls in, but the suspense is killing me.

I've must've been under a rock, since I'm clueless to what you're talking about...

Caliban, maybe NOA/AOL doesn't want to deal with immigration/customs? Its been kind of hectic if you catch my meaning.

What a way to grab your 15 minutes of fame. It'd be cool if one of the PGC'ers could win, I'm sure the PGC staff would be appreciative if they gave them an exclusive interview or re-cap about their experience.

Now if AOL and Nintendo could team-up to bring an updated Picto-chat with internet and AIM ablities. Sounds like a no-brainer to me...

Dude, they announce the winners two days before my birthday.  Damn, that would be the best birthday present ever in the whole wide world of birthday presents.

By the way, if you read the official rules, you win a DS Lite as well.

Haha, what about the 2 people who don't get selected to play the Revolution? I guess they still get the free trip to E3, something most of us will never get to go to.

Getting all those prizes in addtion to being one of the first people to play the Revoltion? Well worth the embarrasment that will follow.

Man guys don't make light of this chance.  It is looking like not even all of us PGC people are gonna make it into this press conference.  I have to keep hoping that Jonny gets a call saying we get more tickets.

Since Canada is out of the question Im pretty sure my chances being in Colombia are basically non existant...

I have to finish this master's thesis though and cant afford a week of leisure, but if I could go Id actually do it and drop my career down the hole, so maybe all its for the best.

Ditto.  Nintendo is being verrrrryy picky this year about how many people are let in.  We are trying to beg and plead to get 5 from our staff in.  Last year we got everyone in which was over 20 people I think.  And that was with about 30 people at E3.

This year we have over 40....in 6 hotel rooms....eek.

They have this massive place yet they aren't gonna fill up all the seats? Stupid!

This would be SO FREAKING AWESOME, i'd get up there and hopefully they'll have DKJB2 and i'd beat off in front of the whole world, that's always been my dream. Just sitting in the audience would be enough for me, i'd be screaming the whole time. I'm signing up in the hope of showing off my gamer skillz to the world and seeing the conference in front of me rather than on a small video with bad framerate and delayed sound at 2am.

The main kodak theater holds about 3400 people.  But I have a good feeling the seating will be altered to accomodate press with camcorders and such.  The last few years in the ballroom it held about 1500 poeople.

They must be expecting looooooooooots of people coming to this.

The Star Wars kid was some kid who was fooling around in front of his school's video camera with a broom stick, pretending it was a light saber or something. He didn't rewind and it ended up on the web. Bring in someone who edits video and he now truly has a light saber, complete with sound effects and laser blasts.

The newly edited video brought tons of fame, money, and embarrassment for the guy. He could have milked it, but decided to have his mom tell everyone to leave him alone.

So imagine that happening to the winner of this contest.

Just do a search for "Star Wars Kid" on YouTube and you'll get a bunch of different edits. Some are dumb, some are funny.
