Title: "Flight Game" by Hudson
Post by: olanmills on April 18, 2006, 06:13:15 PM
I posted this over at IGN, I figured that I might as well share this here too:

I haven't seen anything on the net about this yet. It's not a big deal because there's not that much information and we already knew that we were going to see several Revolution games at E3, but anyways, I thought this would be a little exciting.

This was part of an E3 press release I got today:

Quote

Hudson Entertainment Inc. -

"Flight Game" - Nintendo Revolution - Take to the skies in a way never before experienced on any home console. Using the Revolution's "Gesture System" built into their innovative controller, Hudson's new "Flight Game" allows total plane control as players pilot their planes through various acrobatic flight maneuvers ranging from sky artistry to bomb drops.

It sounds kind of like Pilot Wings in that there will be various challenges, not a strong story or combat game (you vs. bad guys) etc. I mean, I don't know that that's the case. I'm just going off of what they said.

I didn't mean to say that I think it will be the Pilot Wings game. I just meant that it sounds like that kind of game to me (as opposed to Crimson Skies or StarFox or something like that).

BTW, I got a request by Private Message that I post a scan or picture of the press release. That's not possible because I got it as an email. The email only contained text. I'm not going to post the whole email either because it contains numerous phone numbers and email addresses that I'm not free to give out, and I don't feel like censoring them all manually. I'll post the beginning of the email though:

This is what 1up has to say about it, bolds are my own addition:

"Hudson has been hard at work on what is described as a flight game for the Nintendo Revolution. Players will control the plane using the "gesture system," which utilizes the Revolution's unique controller. The game isn't given an official title in the release, so we'll have to wait till E3, and to folks who are pegging this as the new Pilotwings, rumors indicate that this isn't the game you're looking for. It may just be Pilotwings...

Hudson develops the Mario Party franchise for Nintendo, don't they?  Nintendo is probably continuing the leasing of their IPs to third parties this generation as well.

As long as they don't lease out the battered Star Fox franchise anymore, I'm okay with that...

Ain't that the truth...Starfox...you can't build on Starfox...but on the flip side of the argument...you get F-ZERO by Sega, now that's a universe you can build on with enough horsepower...or smart level design.

IGN also says this isn't the new Pilotwings.

I never played Pilotwings. Either of them. Thank God for the virtual console.

IGN has neither confirmed or denied that the flight game Hudson is working on is Pilotwings.  Matt is leaning towards that it isnt Pilotwings but he is only guessing.

Either way it goes, whether its Pilotwings or not it will be interesting to see how Hudson implements this game with their so called "gesture" movements.

Sorry but it's Hudson, no freaking way they're going to beat MS Flight Simulator. They could have tried to beat the MS Train Simulator instead, at least that would have sold in Japan. Come to think of it, why didn't MS port that to the XBox 360 to conquer Japan?

"Gesture system" is like a name designed specifically to turn me off.  I've never been a big fan of mapping gestures to what used to be buttons presses.  But then I don't know what the controls are and Hudson's definition of "gesture" might be different from mine.  I'm curious about the game anyway, mostly because it's a Rev game and right now any information is appreciated.

It doesn't have to be Pilotwings just because it's a flight game.  In fact I'd prefer it if it was just Hudson's creation and Nintendo didn't feel the need to slap a franchise name on every game to try to boost sales.

LOL. I swear that when I first read this (at another site) the first thing I thought was "Ian just got angry" LOL The second I saw the word gesture

I think they just mean how the controller works though, not actual gestures.

What ever happened to Paradigm...the developer for Pilotwings 64.  I remember that they developed Beetle Adventure Racing for the N64 with EA.  They were good.
