Title: Crossbeam and the Games...
Post by: Artimus on April 12, 2006, 07:57:30 PM
A comment at Revolutionfanboy really got me thinking about Crossbeam. They've announced these 3 games and yet they don't have a publisher yet. They've shown nothing but concepts. And let's face it, these are insanely complex ideas. The chances of a MAJOR studio pulling these four games off is near-impossible (Capcom's Fantastic 5, anyone?), let alone a tiny no-money developer.
I guess I just find it hard to believe that these games will ever see the light of day.
EDIT: fixed an error with game placement.

Yeah. I love the ideas so I hope we're wrong about them, but the website just screams "Fly-by-night" to me. Though if they get one nearly finished, it seems possible Nintendo would snatch them up. Remember: If you've got the idea, we've got the money.
Until I see some screenshots or a publisher taking them seriously, I'm going to chalk this up to vaporware.

I think it's possible they'll be available for download if they can't find a publisher or whatever. Don't forget this quote from the Iwata GDC conference
"The new forms of innovative software that can be created by any size developer will be made available for download via Revolution's Virtual Console service. "

Nintendo's new system will be called the Npod and their virtual console will be called iGame
these are completely original concepts and nothing like this has ever been done before, so I'm not sure how I could explain to you how it is gonna work....

Edited main post, Raid Over... is a NIBRIS game. But the same thing applies to them.

Nibris is a little better off. I believe they actually aleady have GC Dev kits, and their first release will be a Raid Over the River DS version, which doesn't seem quite as ambitious as all the other stuff we're seeing from Indies at all.

Ambition is a good thing.
If the startup's first game is some safe, generic game, why should a publisher even give them the time of day? They've got plenty of safe generic games they're developing in house. They need something that becomes a breakout success to make a name for themselves.
