There's no way I'm not making and placing some mario boxes myself now.

Boxes with question marks? Must be bombs. Fuckin' Arabs! Zero-tolerance reactionism strikes again.

they should have saved that prank for Revolution release week. If people all over the country decided to do it all during the same week, that would be cause for major free publicity.

heh. Someone keep an eye on this story... if charges are actually pressed against these girls, I think we all need to step up and stand up for them. Seriously.
If I really, really wanted to leave bombs (or other dangerous materials) on someone's door step, I'd put it in a frickin' UPS box. Not a shiney gold box with question marks on it.

Eh, I remember reenacting the jumping on Goombas in kindergarten. Okay, so we used eyeballs because none of us had a NES, we only had C64s (okay, one guy had a Master System II) and some of us had hacked versions of Giana Sisters that replaced the sisters with the Mario Bros.
But seriously, why is it illegal to put these boxes somewhere? Is that littering or what? Or have the terrorists won already and the freedom to decorate the city with questionmark boxes is taken from the people already?

haha, the kid was clueless, everyone knows Mario breaks bricks with his fist, not his head.

I like how the headline reads "Girls attempt real-life version of video game" as if this is one of those violent GTA style games and they went on a killing spree. Any time anyone talks about re-enacting a videogame in real life that's usually what they're implying.
I can see how weird boxes could cause alarm but since they weren't full of bombs and the intent of the girls seems pretty harmless I wouldn't charge them. It's really just some kids having harmless fun that unfortunately wasn't as well thought out as it could be. No one got hurt and no one was trying to hurt anyone. Explain to them why it freaked everyone and tell them not to do it again and that's it.

lol, I saw this on the news last night with the headlines "Old game from the 80's causes bomb threats", and they wouldn't of got an criminal charges if they fill them with gold coins.

If it was an April's Fools joke the paper would have revealed that in order to not hurt theire credibility, wouldn't it?

It's the Beacon Journal of jerkwater Ohio, not the Chicago Tribune. I don't know how much credibility they have to start with.

Even the Bild would reveal its jokes afterwards and the Bild has credibility that approaches negative infinity.

They should have known better than to leave these things on doorsteps. At that point it seems targeted. If I saw one of those boxes on my doorstep I'd be a bit worried even though I would know what it was in reference too. My first thought would be, why is it on my doorstep? Now add that their target doorsteps were locations where I would assume have no idea about what a "Mario question block" is and your just asking for trouble.
I mean really what's the difference between an unlabled brown box and one spraypainted with a question mark if you don't get the reference. IMO the question mark makes it worse. What would you expect to happen if they mocked them up as POW blocks instead? That wouldn't have made it any better. Heck, what about a TNT barrel from DK Country... I'm sure they'll get that one...

Wow this is really cool. Me and my friend Steph are gunna make these en-masse and throw them all around the city. Gunna be so cool.
There's this one really old toystore that still has a giant painting of Mario on the window from back in the day. THey'll get soem. Some on the main street. A few on each university campus. It'll be a huge mission to do all this (pretty big city.)

Quote The girls ``were not thinking about the consequences of their actions in this day and age,'' he said.
The prosecutor said all of the girls will write letters of apology to each of the law enforcement agencies who responded to the suspicious packages.
No word yet on whether the law enforcement agencies will write letters of apology to taxpayers for being such morons.

If you skim down to the bottom of the main page, you'll see that one person used coins instead. Since they're flat, I think that would probably go over better than a box that could have anything inside.

The box could have mushrooms in it though, and I'd much rather have some delicious mushrooms than some fictional coins.

This is a pretty funny, yet sad story. It just shows that the terrorist has already succeeded and there is nothing we can do about it. Oh, well, if this teaches us anything, we should tell kids not to be kids any more and to start thinking more like adults when doing perceived fun things. Wait! I take that back, making them think like adults will probably make them more violent, manipulative, and dangerous. The last time I check, it was adults that ruined the world or at least nearly ruin the world. Oh, well, that's life...

Anyone? Please?

The elephant in the snake looked like a hat, not like a box (le petit prince FTL). The thing that looks like a box is Snake in disguise.
