Title: Independent Games Festival
Post by: SixthAngel on March 16, 2006, 02:10:17 PM
I haven't seen a thread about this and it should be good to have a non PS thread sometimes.
Anyway, I've been playing a bunch of these games that will be there. Has anyone else been?
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=7795 Most of the games I've played so far have been student developed ones like there.
Cloud stands out to me as my favorite game. The art itself is great and the idea behind it fantastic.
Narbacular Drop was another game I really liked. You can create a door on one part and its exit on another part of any earth covered surface and walk back and forth between the two. That might not be the best explanation but it is an awesome concept.
Anyone else play these games? What did you think and do you have any favorites?

Cloud is so awesome and perfect for the revolution controller. For the love of all thats good on earth, they should really make the game for the console!

Yup I agree, Cloud is pretty cool, it's so calm and soothing and fluffy.

My only problem with Cloud was that I COULDN'T FLY UP OR DOWN.

Pressing the middle button isn't working for me. The only way I could go up or down was by building an incredibly tall cloud.
I assume developers have "scouts" at these places. Do any of these games have a chance to be picked up for a full version by any developer or does EA and other companies have the rights immediately because it was their grant? Unfortunately I think the grant that the Cloud people got was from EA.
I completely agree that this would be a great rev game mantidor. It would let you move in total 3d much easier.

It's called the Independent Games Festival. Most IGF entries are made by smaller groups that self-publish their games. Of course not the student projects but that's not everything there is to the IGF. Previous winners include famous indie titles like Gish, Darwinia, GalCiv, Savage and I think even Alien Hominid.
Personally I liked Ocular Ink but got stuck when I quit the game after dying at the last boss, it saved that point (i.e. me dead) and well... Cloud wasn't that interesting to me.

I realize it is independent, don't be a jackass. My point was that if an independent game has promise a larger developer could then hire them. That way the games could have a far better budget and maybe see a larger commercial release. I realize a lot of independent developers might be against having people watching over their work but I can imagine some agreeing to remaking one of these games if a larger budget was supplied.
