Title: Pokemon Advance - Older Pokemon unlockable via the E-Reader??!?
Post by: joshnickerson on February 26, 2003, 04:25:47 PM
According to IGN Pocket Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire will be compatable with the E-reader and will each include a special card they can swipe to play a certain battle with another trainer... now, if Nintendo can do this for battles, who's to say they wouldn't distribute certain POKEMON on E-cards. This may be the way we can unlock the older Pokemon that aren't immediately available on Ruby and SapphireAnd not just unlocking them... the data on the cards could give Pokemon pre-dertermined moves they wouldn't naturally have... such as a Pikachu that uses Surf, for instance. What do you think?

Another way for Nintendo to milk their franchises… I’ll probably buy some cards though.
As for the cards themselves, I’m sure Nintendo will release packs of them that unlock Pokemon (with or without special moves), new battles and probably items.

Damn Nintendo bastards always after my money. Now I have to buy an e-Reader. IGN Pocket mentionned that the game comes with a coupon for $10 off the e-Reader's price. I'm buying both games (one for my brother) and I only need one e-Reader so I'm wondering if I can use both coupons and get $20 off. I PAID for two games so it's not very fair if the coupon is "one per purchase".
Unlocking Pokemon seems like a sure thing except for one issue. Is the e-Reader available in Japan? Animal Forest+ didn't have it and Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire has been out in Japan for months and I've never heard of any e-Reader support until now. If the e-Reader is an American only thing it seems unlikely that it would be required to unlock certain Pokemon because the Japanese market can't use it. More likely the e-Reader is only for bonuses like extra items or battles.
I figure the Gamecube Pokemon game is more likely the key to all the "missing" Pokemon. Afterall it pushes the GC/GBA connectivity which Nintendo hypes up as their big edge over the competition.

Yeah, you're right, if it was in the Japanese version, we would've heard something about this earlier. Oh well, even if you can't unlock Pokemon, it still sounds pretty nifty. I think it's funny that people complain that Japan gets games earlier, but we're the ones who get the tuned up or fixed versions, like this E-reader feature and, from what I've heard, Wind Waker.

Iane save your dollar , we haven't heard of what theese features do yet, from my understandings there just extra battles....who wants that? Im just here to give you a friendly reminder to don't just jump out and spend you money, the e-reader offers nothing of what can't be found on animal crossing besides Mario Party e and such. When they release more and keep supporting it, I will get it then.

Umm... Nintendo might have left it out of the Japan version of pokemon. The e-Reader in Japan doesn't have a link cable passthrew. They thought that up after it had come out in japan and added it to the US version (which is why the US version of Animal Crossing supports it). So in Japan you can't link your GBA when you use the e-Reader because it covers the port.

So what, if any, will be the extra things for Pokemon ruby and sapphire. I remember with gold and silver, you could use that pokemon pikachu thing to get items for the GB game. Will Sapphire and Ruby have any extra things such as another pokemon pikachu thing, or secrets you can unlock using an e-reader? Anyone know? Is there any chance that there will be any extras we get that we don't know about that Japan didn't get?
