Title: I gave up video games...
Post by: decoyman on March 03, 2006, 09:38:41 PM
for Lent.

Weep for me.

I'm having a hard time after only a couple days in:
• Can't check my turnip prices daily in AC:WW. And what about my budding relationships w/ Brewster and Sable?
• Won an eBay auction for Killer 7. Got the game, but can't play it. Read the manual like 3 times.
• Having to get my "gaming fix" by reading articles and posts about other people enjoying games.

And now, I just finished reading the Internet. I guess I'll go sit in a corner and stare at the wall or something.

You've got the internet, and you're reading it?

You just read the ENTIRE Internet! =O

Looks like you're an addict, you should have given THAT up for Lent.

I suppose whichever higher being you follow really appreciates the sacrifice.

Well, ok, I didn't read the ENTIRE Internet...

I mean, some of the sites aren't even in English.

The strange things people do in the name of religion.

Eh, I think it's good to get out of your comfort zone sometimes, and games are definitely my comfort zone.

Seriously, I'm gonna try to do some other things that I've been neglecting lately. I was an art major in school, and one of my favorite classes was book-making. I'm gonna sit down tomorrow and make a book using a Japanese stab-binding, with some short stories I've written as the content.

Although I get a lot of enjoyment out of gaming, I think I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of this too, AND I'll have a cool book to show for my efforts.

Think of my giving up video games as "exercise for the mind" if you want. That's basically what it is.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you gave up video games for lent I don't think you should allowed to visit this site.

You shouldn't be allowed to visit any video game related sites.
You shouldn't be allowed to read a magazine article about video games.
You shouldn't be allowed to read instruction manuals, advertisements, or even think about Daisy.

You're going to Hell if you don't stop this right now.

He probably gets a woody when he looks at Lara Croft, so he's going to hell anyway.

Good for you decoyman, fasting is an excellent way to discipline yourself and use the freed time to focus on other, more important, things

Wow, I thought giving up chocolate for Lent was tough.
You'll earn my respect if you can do it. The last time I went 3 weeks without playing  videogames I developed a rash. . .

Woe is me for I took a girls to Rally's on friday because we got out of school early and ate meat!

Yeah, in all seriousness, that's pretty good work.

Excuse the touchiness in my first post, I gave something else up for Lent.

vudu - ... Ok, a small clarification needs to be made here: I meant PLAYING games, and He knows it, so I'm golden.

Artimus - You've inspired me to update my sig, and I thank you for that.

Shy Guy, TVman, PaLaDiN - Thanks for the support. If I make it to the end, I'll feel great about it. And if I don't, well... I'll just lie and say I did*

*see, if I'm already going to Hell, what's a little lie going to do anyways, right?

"I suppose whichever higher being you follow really appreciates the sacrifice."

I think it's pretty obvious what higher being he follows if he's talking about Lent.

I gave up TV once when I was like 10.  That was REALLY hard.  At the time my parents were very anti-videogame (not morally; my Mom felt it interfered with homework which in her mind is much worse) so I couldn't even play games to pass the time.  This was before we had a trampoline too.  Actually I wonder how I ever convinced anyone to come to my house because my Mom was so damn anti-fun that for a while there was like nothing interesting for kids to do at my house except watch TV or read.

Now we know where Ian gets it.

I was wondering how long that would take. Come on, don't be mean.

I was going to give up anime for lent, but, Ghost in the shell came on, and, well, long story short, I'm going to hell.

I know some parents who don't let their kids play videogames because it's 'bad for them'. They sit around watching Spongebob.

Haha you should have done what I did.  I gave up being nice to people.

You're all losers!

You're supposed to give up something you LIKE doing, and until you provide evidence that this is the case, I call you a fraud...

Hrm...this is where things get icky technically wise...say I'm a quitter, and I derive enjoyment from only completing things halfassed...

What if I quit from quitting?
Title: RE: I gave up video games...
Post by: wandering on March 12, 2006, 03:37:06 AM
how is that icky? If you enjoy quitting, I assume you can quit quitting for lent. And if you quit quitting quitting, then you fail.

Yes, but by merely quitting, you are inadvertently failing your objective!

<re-assembles own exploded head>

UPDATE:
I'm doing well with the giving up video games thing. I've even come to terms with the fact that Derwin is probably dead and rotting in his cockroach-infested house right now from the cold he caught just before Lent began...

BUT: Tetris DS
AND: Metroid Prime Hunters

umm... Does anyone know anything about cryogenic freezing/stasis? I'd only need it for a couple weeks!

So. Lent's over now, right?

quick, play some games!
