I wonder if that means it can run via batteries or something...or maybe just it will have an external AC adapter like the Gamecube and Xbox 360 have, to save space in the console itself. Doesn't really make sense if that's the case though, since the stand appears to be optional.

It only makes sense for portability. It would be pretty annoying to be forced to run the thing on it's side no matter what. Some of us just don't have that luxury of space. I figure the whole thing is false or it's an optional battery pack dealie.
Though why Nintendo cares about portability for something that has to be plugged into a TV I'll never know. I have the plug my TV into the wall anyway so what do I really gain by not having to plug the Rev in the wall?

It should be completely wireless, and power cableless as well.
Of course, that'd probably require some crazy technologies that will probably fry anything between the Revolution and the wall socket/power source.

maybe i'm just stupid... no i'm definitely just stupid, but what's the point of this? why would u need the stand to be the power source?? unless it is the ac converter instead of being on the plug, or inside the console, but then u have to use the stand, and that would make me grumpy :-(

You can still put it on it's side, it'll just look kind of silly.
If this is true, I think Nintendo's doing it for asthetic reasons. The stand looks a lot better than the ugly battery pack sticking out of my GameCube.

Don't buy it. Makes no sense horizontally.

It looks like there's a empty loop on the right side of the stand in the pic, where the power cord probably juts out of. It makes sense since the Rev also has a flat edge on only that corner.
Unless the stand has some sort of built-in rechargable battery it's proabably a lie

The stand just the power brick thingy the cube/n64 had to convert the wall outlet watt for the system just shape so it could also be use as a stand so we dont have to buy a useless stand like other system.

Translation: He thinks the stand is the AC adapter, not a power supply.

Didn't Square-Enix once make a comment about the Revolution being somewhere in between a console and a portable? Plus there's supposably still more to the Rev than we know about. Perhaps Nintendo is planning a portable, LCD screen accessory. They showed off one for the Gamecube at E3 a few years back though I don't think it was ever released. But it did prove Nintendo was toying with the idea and perhaps decided to design their next console to be more suited to such an accessory. It would also make more sense of the lack of HD support as well as make Nintendo's wi-fi online network more accessible to the console.

You can make you cube "portable" It has a battery pack and screen. Almost always has. In fact considering that you don't have to move with the Cube controller it would be better suited. A Rev would just be to akward. Plus power supplies are hot. I mean thats the reason they have always been at the back top of a computer and have fans. so it would make no sense to put one under your system. It will probably produce more heat then the system itself. If it does end up being the power supply I will recommend right now that to never use it as a base stand. You'll just approximately half you rev's life expectancy. Between the heat and other factors involved with those sort of things it would make no sense. Also for those of you who don't know never store tape backups on the server for much the same reason. It will eventually corrupt them. That being said if Nintendo is going all wireless. Why not an Antenna? I mean with how close it's going to be for most people to there TV and controllers sensors it wouldn't matter about the slight interference the system would make. I vote for antenna it just makes more sense or just plain plastic.

Ian...I think it has less to do with portability and more with Nintendo wanting to cut as many wires as possible. Who knows, maybe the TV connection will be wireless as well.

hmm i agree with ceric and the potential problems of electric corruption the base as a power supply could cause. but here's a random thought: what if the base as a power supply is for portability, but not for mobile gaming! a big thing (well sort of but not really) is people using screen projectors instead of actual t.v's. imagine it's night time, you have three of your friends over, and (if ur over 21) you're being drunk and rowdy, and maybe ur baby is sleeping, or your parents, siblings, roomate, whomever, in general someone might be being disturbed. u grab ur rev, four motes, go outside and the built in projector is making the side of your house into a giant 10 ft. screen. now you can play raquetball and wake the neighbors instead! otherwise i don't see the point in making the stand a power supply unless it's just for back up power so if you live where i do and the electric company like to test the system with a rolling blackout when you're three hours into Zelda and havent saved because it didn't occur to you from all the fun you were having. It would save you breaking a wavebird, I mean revmote in your anger.
I added a comma for clarity.
