Title: Could this Sega fighter be a Revolution game?
Post by: nemo_83 on February 16, 2006, 05:44:34 PM
from the man who brought you Shenmue and Virtua Fighter

There are some interesting quotes in the linked interview but nothing that would suggest the game may come to Revolution, but if this game came to any piece of home hardware it would work best on Revolution.  Short of an Eyetoy revolution Sony's console lacks the interface for this unique game, and the DS is entirely too weak and small.  MS doesn't even have a chance, their interface is set in stone.

Back to the DS, it was ment to be a Developer System preparing developers for Revolution's interface.  The guys and gals over at Sega though, it seems, have taken this idea to the limits basically creating a game ment for Revolution, grown in the arcade, with an interface like the DS which simulates Revolution controls making it easier for the game to work for Nintendo's next gen system.

I'm not saying the graphics will look like this game, but the control interface will give gamers an idea of what to expect out of some Revolution fighting games.

The game doese look nice. While I guess we will have to wait to see what is in store from the different big developers.

I watch the trailer for the game, I guess I would like to see him have games for both the DS and Revolution. The controllers would be interesting to try out.

Fat chance this game will come to Rev or DS. I don't even know why you guys still hold onto the fact that Sega will actually support Nintendo. From the makers of Virtua Fighter, hello there Virtua Fighter RPG that was suppose to be GC exlcusive.

It's a game that requires both a touchscreen and home console level graphics. There's no other non-arcade platform this could be on.

YS: Well, you can call Psy-Phi the Sega DS! [laughs] Actually, we've joked around about it, but... we haven't considered anything seriously. I don't think the DS is capable enough. We could make a DS [port of the] game, but I think it would lose a lot in the transition.

Sounds like to me that the DS is the last system this game would be on. And I honestly don't see why he can't just rig up a touch screen type accessory to come with the game when it's released on console. There are plenty of games released with unique accessories just to play it. I seriously wouldn't hold my breath for this to come out on Rev either.

Yes, that's why we're talking about a Rev port. The DS cannot accept a full port and the other systems can't accept a port at all, except for the Revolution.

Read me last sentence. I said "I  seriously wouldn't hold my breath for this to come out on Rev either." I see this game either being ported to Xbox or PS with some kind of accessory, or not come out on console at all.

But I don't see a reason for that assumption. Of course Sega is stupid but I doubt they'd port this to any other console. There's no way to make a specialized accessory for that.

Personally I doubt they will bring it over also since Sammy wants Saga to concetrate to the decaying arcade market.

I'm sorry KDR_11k, but I just don't share your optimism. First of all, I came to this assumption for the very simple reason that we got very bad support from Sega. Don't forget, they were the first company to start pulling games from the GC back in 2002 or 2003. Sure, you guys can blame them for having a contract or whatever close ties with MS, but that's not really the point. It's not just that they gave the better games to other systems, but also because they pulled the support with the excuse of the games not selling. Their games didn't sell very well on other systems either, you don't see them using that excuse to pull support.

Yu Suzuki himself claims to be in love with the GC and all we got was a silly half-assed Virtua Fighter RPG to celebrate it's 10th anniversary. This game was suppose to be GC exlcusive too. Thankfully, it sucked badly so it wasn't much of a lost. If you read his interview carefully, you'll see that Suzuki doesn't take the DS very seriously with the comment of PSP being for adults while DS is for kids. He can say how much he loves the Rev controller, but in the end, it's just a bunch of crap if nothing comes out for it. Again, just look at the laughable support he's given the GC.

Perhaps Sega is going to make their own console to play games, and give it a touch screen to play off the success of the DS, but give it better graphics, like the one seen in the game...

eh, maybe not. i'm more inclined to believe that this game will come out on PS3 or 360 with a special controller. but who knows??

I thought this game was already announced for Xbxo 360?  A Revolution port seems smart and easy to do, hopefully they'll consider it.
