Title: LoZ things to while waiting for LoZ: Twilight Princess
Post by: JonLeung on January 30, 2006, 04:26:54 AM
The wait for Twilight Princess might give me some time to catch up on Zelda stuff.  I'm a huge Zelda fan and even for me there are things I haven't yet done:

1. Gotten around to playing Four Swords.  Since that requires another person this isn't easy, but it's the only official game I still have yet to play.
2. Gotten around to finishing Link's Awakening DX.  I've played the non-DX version enough times but never played at least the Color Dungeon, sheesh.
3. Gotten the Hylian Loach in Ocarina Of Time.  Grrr.  And then if it's there, I'd probably have to do it again in the Master Quest version.
4. Gotten all the Heart Pieces in Minish Cap.  I probably have to start over, though.
5. Shot up that fish guy in every location in Wind Waker.  Oh, and finishing the game in his pyjamas.
6. Gotten to Level 99 in Weapon Master Mode of Soul Calibur II.  I'm not good at using Link, but he's useful in one stage for quickly throwing a guy over the edge.  It still takes hundreds more of that to get to the highest Level, though...yipes.
7. Finished The Legend Of Zelda in Animal Crossing.  It's harder than I remember, I guess I got too used to more fluid controls.
8. Finished Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link on the Colectors Edition Disc.
9. Finished the various challenges in SSBM with Link, Young Link, Ganondorf, and Zelda/Sheik.  I don't remember, but there are probably some Multi-Man Melees left to do.
10. Tried that riddle/basket-capture thing or whatever in the GBA version of A Link To The Past.  I forget what this is about but it's still something I ought to do.
11. Gotten a hold of The Legend Of Zelda cartoon DVD.  And then I'd have to watch it.
12. Fixed my glitched copy of Super Smash Bros. so that I can select characters other than Mario (like, say, for example, Link) in any of the 1-P modes.
13. Finished the Game & Watch Zelda.  I'd have to find it again, though.  I bought it in really good condition...hope it still is.  I could play the Game & Watch Gallery version on the GBA, but then I'd have to earn it first too.
14. Gotten a hold of the Japanese version of Four Swords Adventures just for Tetra's Trackers.  Hope I'll be able to understand it, though.
15. Gotten a hold of the Game Watch Zelda, not to be confused with the Game & Watch Zelda.  And then I'd have to finish it.
16. Gotten a hold of the CD-i games and a CD-i, and braving those three weird Zelda games on it.

See?  Lots still to do.  I think I've probably forgotten something in the Oracle games, too...

1. When you say Four Swords, you mean the GBA version right?  Because you can play FSA single player...
2.  I never figured out how they expected you to find the color dungeon on your own, sinc eyou have to move certain gravestones a certain direction in a certain order.  It was cool though, you get to choose between two groovy items at the end =o
3.  THE LOACH.  Forgot about the loach, I have to do that too.
4.  There's so much stuff in Minish Cap, I don't think I'll ever finish it.  It's like the WW figurine gallery, except MC has a gallery too, plus boatloads of other stuff.
5-13. Stuff
14.  Oh I see, you WERE talking about the GBA four swords.
15. Stuff.
16. OH MY

I still haven't played Four Swords (Noone has it around me...I'm so sad ;_;.)  Four Swords Adventures more than makes up for that loss, though...Such a great game...

These so-called CDI games don't even exist, stop spreading rumours...

Yeah, the CD-i Zelda games are at the bottom of my list.  For the most part, that list was made in terms of priority.  I probably won't ever get all the way down there.

If I ever did somehow get a hold of them, and if they're as bad as everyone says, then I will add to my list:

17. Hunt down those people that mishandled the Zelda license.

You forgot the slider puzzles in Wind Waker.  I'm guessing you didn't bother to do those once you beat the second or third one.  (I know I didn't.)

Four Swords really just feels like a demo of Four Swords adventures...  If you played Four Swords Adventures you aren't missing anything from the portable one.

My wish list, though this won't actually happen casue I don't have time with all the other games i'm playing ><

1.  Actually finish Majoras Mask (I'm very ashamed of this)
2.  Actually finish Adventures of Link (Not so ashamed of this as it was crazy hard when I was a kid)
3.  Now that I own both Oracle Games and Links Awakening DX, I'd like to finish those as well (Just bought them for the first time recently so I'm not so ashamed of this either)
4. Play WW in Link's street clothes and get all of the trophies/figures.

Aside: I would also like the Zelda cartoon box set too, but that isn't really game related.

Also, I beat the hell out of Minish Cap.. first Zelda game I've ever done that on.  There is nothing left I can do in that game.  I feel for you though Jon.  I will admit that the only time I had to go for a FAQ when I was playing it was to find my last remaining heart piece.

Have you finished the Nintendo Gallery? Becuase I got oh so close, but I couldn't, so I didn't go back.. I don't think it's worth it.

In Minish Cap?  Are you referring to the figures you get all lottery style like SSBM?  Yeah, I got that done, even with the new figures that become available after beating the game.

I *Love* Zelda (although I know I'm not the only one).  Let me address some of these!

1. Gotten around to playing Four Swords.  Since that requires another person this isn't easy, but it's the only official game I still have yet to play.
Again, assuming you mean the LttP/Four Swords version, yeah, do this.  It's fun.  Honestly, I find it more fun that FSA's Hyrulean Adventure in Multi-Player - There's less co-op in Four Swords than FSA/HA - which means less "You do this, I'll do that" and more exploring/playing.
I have two copies, if you want to come over and play sometime.

2. Gotten around to finishing Link's Awakening DX.  I've played the non-DX version enough times but never played at least the Color Dungeon, sheesh.
SINNER!  Best Game Ever!  Although the Color Dungeon was a disapointment, still.
BTW, KnowsNothing, there's a [spoilers]book in the Library that tells you [/spoilers] how to move the stones.

11. Gotten a hold of The Legend Of Zelda cartoon DVD.  And then I'd have to watch it.
16. Gotten a hold of the CD-i games and a CD-i, and braving those three weird Zelda games on it.
These two could be the hardest things of all to do.
The Zelda Cartoon is on WalMart.com and two of the three CD-i games are pretty easy to get.  The third, Zelda's Adventure was only released on small scale in parts of Europe... Good luck on that.

13. Finished the Game & Watch Zelda.  I'd have to find it again, though.  I bought it in really good condition...hope it still is.  I could play the Game & Watch Gallery version on the GBA, but then I'd have to earn it first too.
You could always easily download a GBA Savefile to unlock the Zelda for you.  It's fun on the GBA.

14. Gotten a hold of the Japanese version of Four Swords Adventures just for Tetra's Trackers.  Hope I'll be able to understand it, though.
If you use the FAQ file on GameFAQs for Tetra's Trackers, you'll be able to stumble through it pretty easily.

15. Gotten a hold of the Game Watch Zelda, not to be confused with the Game & Watch Zelda.  And then I'd have to finish it.
They're on eBay quite often... but they can get kinda expensive at time... (Get it?  Watch?  Time? ha!  I kill me!)

18 Watch a sunset over Lake Hylia and pretend you were making out with Malon on the shore. That should last you several hours.

Finish?  You mean beat the game or complete the mask quests that don't affect your progress in the main game at all?

I have only a few thing to do on my list of stuff on loz I made a long time ago.

1: finsh LOZ:LA-DX
2: re beat the WW and find all the clue to tp
3: find/buy/finsh loz: OoA
4: finsh loz: OoS
5: ^link their code^

The was more but I finsh most of it like beating MM, and I played loz:lttp/ff on ff mode though the guy I play with I really hated and never finsh a level because I kept killing him. (I regret nothing)

Sorry, should have made it clearer; I was asking Jon if he had done this in Wind Waker..

And don't worry Hypnotic, Pro was only joking.

"You forgot the slider puzzles in Wind Waker. I'm guessing you didn't bother to do those once you beat the second or third one. (I know I didn't.)"

I did that.  It just starts over.
I also did the Nintendo Gallery.
I beat Wind Waker about as much as it could have been beaten.
Title: RE:LoZ things to do while waiting for LoZ: Twilight Princess
Post by: JonLeung on January 30, 2006, 05:39:59 PM
Yeah, I got all the figures in Nintendo Gallery, but having missed a couple the first play through, that was what spurred me to play the second time.  So now I've got a completed gallery and a half-finished "second quest".

I also probably didn't do all the sliding puzzles.  Grrr.

I think it's the sailing part of Wind Waker that I really didn't like.  If only they could have a 3D Zelda game with enemies crawling all over the landscape like the 2D games.  Not like Hyrule's and Termina's open, empty fields in the N64 games or Wind Waker's mostly boring sea.  I realize that it's far from easy and probably requires a lot of processing power, though.  Maybe the Revolution Zelda can handle a bit more excitement on the overworlds.

Well ok Heres my to do list. First I will make it simple by saying that I intend on beting at least 1 othr Zelda game befoe playing TP, So far I have only beaten Link to the Past and only on SNES, I had teh GBA version but traded it for soemthing along time ago before I finished it.

So I want to sit down and beat original NES Zelda 1 and 2 and then OOT and then I plan on buying Wind Waker in the next month or so and play that all the way through just so I can get prepped for TP.

Other than that I dont have much else I need to do Zelda related. I do however plan on buying some new games for my DS and whatever I can find for GC that I still havent played yet.

I own virtually all Zelda games SNES onwards...

and the only ones I had the attention span to finish were Ocarina and Wind Waker.

EDIT: Wait, I do own the NES ones, I have Collector's Edition...

I'm not going to touch anything Zelda related until TP, that way it will be a fresher experience. I'll also play lots of N64 and PS2 games the week before I get it, so i'm actually impressed by the graphics.

Here's what I'm doing, in order:

1. Play through Majora's Mask (started last night, in fact)
2. Get the rest of the figurines in Wind Waker
3. Buy/play Minish Cap (may do this before/during the figurine quest)
4. Play a little bit of all the Zelda games I already own
5. Beat Adventures of Link (ha ha, yeah right)
6. Buy/play Four Swords Adventures (could happen)
7. Buy/play the Oracles games (about as likely as beating Adventures of Link).

Last night, I put up the Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons maps as Maps Of The Month for February 2006 (VGMaps.com, if you didn't know).  Looking over the maps of Ages and Seasons is reminding me that I don't remember these games much.  I played them once; most Zelda games I play twice without usually meaning to.

If I didn't have so many other Zelda-related things to do for the first time, I would want to finish these a second time at some point.  (Well, some games like The Legend of Zelda in Animal Crossing and Zelda II on the Collectors Edition disc I thought I finished at some point on the NES, but they made the list...I guess I'm not consistent...)

I have quite a bit to do...

I need to actually beat Majoras Mask...I'm currently stuck in the Goron Ice Temple thing....

It'd be nice to beat OOT and WW again, and I probably need to finish the Master Quest.

I also need to find EVERY LAST KINSTONE in Minish Cap...I think I have one left, and I refuse to beat the game until I find it.

I have up on the Hylian Loach long ago...

Alas...I'm going to have to wait until the Rev comes out before I can play any of the GB Zelda games, as I don't have the money to buy a GB compatible type game, and I'm hoping they will let you download GB games.  I've heard Bill praise Links Awakening over and over, so I'd like to se what all the fuss is about.

And...erm....

I think thats it.

Worms DS and KH2 should also do well to tide me over.

Majora's Mask is awesome.

All those who said "it looks too much like OoT" and/or "I don't get the time system" need to shut up and actually play it.

Unfortunately, I don't have the cartridge...I beat it on a rental but didn't actually "have" it until I got the Zelda Collectors Edition Disc.  I beat it again there.

Why didn't they make all of the Zelda cartridges and discs gold?

Yeah, but Majora's Mask wasn't gold.  None of the Game Boy games I can recall were gold.

Anyway, I came across an old Zelda commercial...no, not THAT one...WTF.

A lot of people have seen this one too, but since I'm here: Link looks like a girl, but dances well at the time...

Majora's Mask wasnt bright gold, it was an opaque gold wich actually fits with the overall mood of the game now that I think about it.

and lol at those commercials, they are awesome.

I'm not going to do anything in preparation.  I might play the original Zelda, which I've hardly played, much less beaten.  But that'd be all.

Oh, at first I didn't understand this but now I see how you misunderstood my probably unclear question.

I didn't mean, "why isn't every copy a gold edition (of the games that have them)?" but rather "why don't all games have a gold version?"

You guys have pointed out that Majora's Mask is gold-ish despite my bad memory here, but I don't think all of the games are gold.  I don't recall the Game Boy games being gold, but feel free to prove me wrong.

I want the hologram and controller T_T

I thought that gold cratridges were only if you preorder, which made a very happy man when I got Majora's Mask and to my surprise it was the gold one, I thought it was impossible to get a gold one over here.

but now that I think about it, did the Wind Waker have not-gold disks?

Wind Waker had both gold discs and packaging.  Mine did, anyway.

"temple minibosses ROCKED"

This is, in all honesty, my biggest disappointment in regards to Wind Waker.  I wanted special mini-bosses.
Luckily, it appears as though they might be making a return for Twilight Princess

The mage in WW doesn't compare with the likes of PSYCHO FROG and BATMAN and DISCO WIZARD and EYEBALL THING CAMEO FROM LINK TO THE PAST and a handfull of other cool critters.

WW's minibosses were largely variants of regular enemies, or introductions to what would become regular enemies.

Oh I wasnt implying they can even compare, just that they existed. the one with the death-like scythe surrounded by bats and uber gaaro (forgot the name too ) were my favorites.

Did link to the past have a gold cart?
Title: RE: LoZ things to do while waiting for LoZ: Twilight Princess

LoZ 1 and 2 had gold and grey carts.
Link's Awaking (The best damn game ever made) had multiple releases, but most important is the grey cart (regular version) and black cart (DX version)
LttP had two major releases, with and without the "Player's Choice" logo on the label - but both grey carts.

I'm finally playing Four Swords with my brother, so that may take the top thing off my list soon.

2 players is the best we can do.  I doubt I'll be able to get 4.  Two Swords?

How short is Four Swords, anyway?

Me and my brother have been playing a stage a day and it already sounds like we're near the end after only a few days...  X(

Ah, well.  I guess I have other Zelda things to do even if I do finish Four Swords sooner than expected...

I think it's only seven or eight levels long.  It's not a particularly lengthy game, but it's certainly fun.

As someone said before, Four Swords is basically a demo of Four Swords Adventures...(Which again I'll say is fantastic fun!)

Four Swords was amusing, but over so quick!  I spent more time figuring out how I'm going to play this game than actually playing it!  X(

I've already played Four Swords Adventures.  Shame about Tetra's Trackers, though.

"OYYYYY!"
