Post by: Epitaph on January 24, 2006, 02:07:33 PM

It apears that E3 is trying to clean up their expo to promote a more E rated experiance. Doesnt much affect me but im sure alot of reporters are ticked off.

"While there going to be plenty of whining from people who only go for the booth babes..."

...there are people who only go for the booth babes?

Anyway, from the sounds of it, I doubt the "booth babe" will disappear, it's just that they will be more clothed than in past E3s.

SRSLY.

The Booth Babes at EVERY show (except the Touch! DS one) have been ugly as it gets.  If this was Carmen Electra, yeah, I'd care.  But it's not.

I WISH they'd ban them. It's a disgusting and embarassing representation of video gamers...

*LOLZ at DeadlyD*
I'm glad.  Booth babes really don't represent the videogame industry as mature.

I'm only disappointed in the sense that I've never been to E3 and now if I ever go a part of the experience has been removed.  Other than that I don't really care though.

The whole "Booth Babes" thing always struck me as incredibly tacky, not to mention pretty insulting to the intelligence of the attendees.

What's more concerning to me, and it doesn't really seem clear from the article, is if this new rule will affect playability of games with "sexually provocative" themes in them. Does the content of the game itself being displayed on a screen count as the "show floor"?

How does the dress code stuff apply for attendees?  If a girl wasn't a presenter but was just attending the show and just dressed like a total slut would she get thrown out?  What's the stop me from just getting a group of attractive female "attendees" to dress in a small half shirt and hot pants with my game's logo on them.  Hell you give the "outfit" away as swag and then just stage this whole thing where the girls at different times get the swag and then "out of their own free will" change their clothes and walk around E3 as attendees.  They don't even have to shill.  They just get in lines and play different games and rely on male attendees to ask them questions about the logo.

How many really hot girls have the clearance needed to get into E3?

This is extremely good for the industry.  Maybe this represents the tipping point for sex in games.  We climbed through BMX XXX and the playboy game, and now we can finally go back down the other side of the hill.

My only game like conference experience is PAX, and they had a no booth babe rule.  The result?  I don't even remember what the Nintendo booth people looked like, or even if they were girls, all I remember is Zelda.

Also, many of the other booths actually put people in them who knew something.  Excuse me for not remembering the name of the company, but one of the CCG companies that was there actually put people very close to the creation of the game out to teach people how to play.  You walked in, they had game mats set up with empty seats... Pick a seat, and they would teach you the game.  I've never been much of a CCG guy but it was really cool and personal.

"How many really hot girls have the clearance needed to get into E3?"

If your software company "hires" them then they're in the industry right?

And if they are an Actor/Actress they can get in even if IDSA has to bend to rules to get them in there.  Well at least it will clear up the walkways I remember my first E3 and the hoard trying to get their picture taken with the "model" what was that Elf character on the front of Everquest.

It's E3, not a sex show.

At best they're just eye candy and attention grabbers.  It's not like if a girl was dressed like Ada Wong I could realistically get with her.  Or Pro 666 with someone dressed like Daisy.

Less eye candy.  Oh, well.  Boo hoo.  I like women, but if I'm flying down to LA for E3, I don't need to spend more time than I already would ogling them.

If I worked at the Nintendo booth with Daisy as my escort, I'd wear my t-shirt.
