Title: Interesting Little Poll...
Post by: Artimus on January 17, 2006, 01:55:51 PM
This is a random internet poll means little yadda yadda yadda. But still:

Quote

Pick your console combo:

PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution    23%   147
Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution    27%   172
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360    7%   46
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Revolution    18%   117
Nintendo Revolution    17%   111
PlayStation 3    3%   22
Xbox 360    5%   33

648 votes total

That's from Joystiq...kinda worth a look.

547 for Nintendo

368 for MS

332 for Sony

(A tally of all those who voted for any combo with the respective system in it)

wow, that is great, the only problem is that only hardcore gamers really go online for video game information.  So we have no idea how the numbers would add up if it really was a random sampling (meaning all kinds of gamers, from casual to hardcore).  However, this is still good news, because the hardcore gamers can really influence what the casuals buy.  One thing is for certain, this is gonna be a very interesting generation.

Nintendo always wins these kinds of votes. I remember there was a poll on Tecmo's site asking if they should develop for Nintendo and the answer was a resounding yes. However, nothing transpired..

The current regulars probably have a lot of experience behind them, they're probably just as tired of the constant rehashes as we are.

That "2nd console" thing could work out after all.

Yeah, Nintendo always wins polls like these. The GC was at the top of every poll back in the day, everything from "What system do you want the most?" to "Which console should we develop for?"

I hate to call it meaningless, but experience shows us that this is indeed the case.

Every GameFAQs poll gives the Xbox and Xbox 360 more negative response.  Like, "Do you have an Xbox?" always comes out to over 50% not having one, or uninterested so probably won't get ever one, etc.

The Nintendo systems do quite well, so going by the polls on GameFAQs you'd think that the GCN and PS2 were neck-and-neck (or at least a lot closer) with the Xbox as a distant third.  Now, the PS2 is indeed ahead, but the GCN and Xbox are closer to each other in sales, and both quite distant from the PS2.

Which means, of course, that Nintendo fans will tend to be higher in proportion in any group of people that are online.

See the irony there?

Or, it could be because Nintendo gamers have to talk about games online with a lack of actually gaming while online.  Or something.

Actually, it just means that Xbox fans are such awesome gamers they don't even need to visit a site like GameFAQS.

Divx movies got a similar poll and, I don't have the link right now, the Rev is getting pretty soundly creamed.  But on the flipside over a qaurter of the people are saying there not going to get any of them.

Well, that's the problem with "random" surveys. You don't get any controls and you have a set sample. The gamefaqs poll may be more in favor of Nintendo and Sony, but there are many posibilities of why that could be. There's also outside influencing and biasing word? that could skew data.
