Title: I love old Nintendo crap....
Post by: UncleBob on January 12, 2006, 06:00:39 PM
Look what I just bought!

Donkey Kong Card Game

I'd link pictures, but they're too big to post and I'm too lazy to shrink 'em down (I want to go to bed)...

And to think, I found this while looking for Nintendogs Cards on eBay.  I guess something good did come out of those blasted cards...

I think the oldest thing I have is the Cement Factory Game & Watch. Needs a DS sequel w/ touchscreen lever pulling + multiplayer

Why does Donkey Kong has a "SURPRISE BUTTSECKS" look on his face? ;_;

MAYBE THAT WAS HIS PLAN THE WHOLE TIME!

I had the Donkey Kong board game.  Boy, was that neat.  At least, I seem to recall liking those cute tiny plastic barrels.

I have a few Game & Watches, and I got the Boxing and Zelda G&Ws in really good condition in like the mid-90s in an electronics store.  I was surprised.

I'm contemplating whether or not I should get the Legend Of Zelda cartoon and Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVDs, even though I heard the Zelda one is pretty bad.  But I liked the cartoons for the cheese factor, so if it at least has all of them it may be worth it.

As such a Zelda fan, though, should I at least try to find the CD-i games, though?  o_0

It's really interesting how different the characters looked at this point (I assume this is pre-NES).  I think I can safely say that if Mario continued to look like that he probably never would have caught on as well as he did.  He looks like Popeye with a moustache.

It's interesting to think of a time where merchandise would pop up based entirely on an arcade game.

That's crazy, as I have the exact same game. Well... not sure if I still have it, but at one time I did. The box looks very similar to that card game one too.

I remember playing a donkey kong board game at my friends house (you know, the one who's parents  bought him everything?)  I think it looked a little different though.  The board assembled into stair like levels and  barrels came down  as  you moved mario game pieces up. I remember there as a cool barrel launcing mechanic in the donkey kong.

EDIT: this was it! http://cgi.ebay.com/Donkey-Kong-Board-Game-1982_W0QQitemZ6017644141QQcategoryZ2530QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Sounds like Arbok and ShyGuy know exactly what I'm talking about!

I wonder if I still have it.  I recall a barrel-launching thing.  I probably boke it, I'm guessing.  I think I'm about the same age as the original Donkey Kong game, or a year older, so when this game was at its peak in popularity I was a little tyke and likely to break things.  At least I didn't eat the barrels...I remember recalling how they could be mistaken for cereal.

Speaking of which, there was Nintendo cereal too, wasn't there?

EDIT: OMG, ShyGuy, that's indeed the one!  Mine had old yellow tape on it too!

All I have are two watches that play some SMB3 and SMW LCD game respectively. Both are defective now (toasted the SMB3 one by forgetting to take it off before going into a seawater bath), the Sonic The Hedgehog one probably just needs new batteries. It feels unfinished, though: There are holes in the ground and graphics for Sonic falling into them but they don't hurt you.

None of those were made by Nintendo or Sega, though. SMB 3 says ZEON, SMW Em Entertainment München and Sonic Tiger on the back...
