Title: Pikmin Ds?
Post by: poltergiest233 on December 11, 2005, 10:05:55 AM
Wouldn't it be awesome if they made a pikmin ds? You could control the pikmin with the stylus.

You mean the three Pikmin the DS could display at once?

Hahahahaha, real funny... The ds is awesome. Don't make fun of it.

He was making fun of you more than he was making fun of the DS.

Put Pikmin on the Revolution, no need to crap it down for the DS.

Couldn't it even be possible with sprites? Just curious, I too do not wish for Pikmin Ds but I am curious if the Ds could handle alot of sprites on the screen.

If one was made for DS it would have to be 2D, it could be quite cool, but i'd rather they didn't bother with it and went to working on Pikmin 3 Revolution.

If the 2D was done with 3D hardware, I don't see why not.  You wouldn't have to deal with sprite limits then and you'd also be able to use hardware accelerated effects.  It's what Dynasty Warriors DS is doing to have a lot of soldiers onscreen.

You know what would be truly awesome - wireless co-op Pikmin DS. You could have Louie and Olimar controlled by different players, each taking the Pikmin they need to accomplish tasks simultaneously, or take out bad bosses.

Maybe they could make it a Pikmin offshot, Make it more task/puzzle oriented. You face an obstacle and you have to overcome it with only 10 pikmin, etc.

Also Battle mode would be cool, but I suppose that could be done on the Rev as well.

Unfortunately, Miyamoto said there are no plans for Pikmin Revolution yet, even though he knows the controller is perfect for it. I'm sure it will come eventually, but he probably has a lot on his plate at the moment.

I'm not making fun of anyone, I'm giving a realistic estimate of the system's performance. Additionally I'm not sure the CPU could even handle that many entities. I've seen Sonic Rush drop the framerate after I got hit with lots of rings and some enemies were on screen. I don't think the DS could handle hundred and more entities.

I think Pikmin benefits greatly from being on a large TV screen.  There are a lot of little guys on the screen at once and you need space for that.  A portable just seems too small, if that makes sense.  Think of how hard it would be to manage 100 guys on a screen that size.

I think the DS would benefit more from it's own strategy game.  An RTS in the style of Warcraft or Command & Conquer originally couldn't be done very well on a console.  But with the touchscreen adding a lot of mouse-like functionally I think now's the time for Nintendo to make a more Warcraft-like RTS.  I actually don't think I'd like to play Pikmin with a stylus.  It's a different kind of game and I really like the fact that it just uses a normal controller.

It's a shame that there are no plans for a future Pikmin game right now.  Pikmin 2 is probably my favourite Cube game and it is by FAR the best thing EAD have done this generation.  It's too bad that we'll probably continue to get annual Mario Party games on the Rev but that maybe not another Pikmin, which after only two games has tons of room to work with still especially online multiplayer and co-op for the story mode.  If Pikmin is done though it went out on top.

Hmmm. That sorta sound like a game I have played a long time ago on the PC, it was called Lemmings, remember that game? It was fun, and Pikmin has always reminded me of Lemmings in its general principle.

I've never seen the Lemmings comparison beyond the fact that both games have a lot of little guys running around.  The two games are definately not similar enough that a person who liked one game would almost certainly like the other.

They could make a fun little pikmin spin-off, like a platformer where you're a pikmin that doesn't get found by olimer and you have to survive the world and something something...I don't know, I don't really have ideas for a story, but I feel like it could be fun to play as an individual pikmin.  There could be puzzles based around finding those flower things that change your color, where you have to change to yellow to jump higher or use a bomb, etc.

I like that Idea MrMojoRising. The gameplay practically writes itself.

At least some people like my idea...It was just a suggestion! I for one think it would be cool and that it could be done in 2-D very well.!.!.!?

I noticed some of the forum users (cough *KDR_11k, Hostile Creation*) are pretty damn sarcastic in response to some new users posts.  I've noticed it on a couple of occasions.  I think that pikmin on the DS is a great idea considering the added functionality the stylus would bring.  Maybe it wouldnt be an exact port of the gameplay from the cube due to techinical limitations but im positive they could think of ways to run it on ds hardware (2d sprites used for pikmin instead of 3d models perhaps, perhaps a cel-shaded style).  Anyways, a legitimate thought and a legitimate thread... certainly nothing that warrents a condescending, smart-ass response.

Actually, only you and Arbok directly attacked someone in this thread.  Way to go.

Also, welcome to the internet!

"Actually, only you and Arbok directly attacked someone in this thread. Way to go."

My 'direct attack' as you call it was directed at arrogant, smart-ass responses to the posts of new forum users.  I don't see the relevance of your statement and how it was supposed to effect my argument.

"Also, welcome to the internet!"....  'KnowsNothing'...... appropriate name, and thanks for proving my point.

*Attemps to keep this topic from becoming a flame war.*

Well, there's no reason not to make a Pimin DS. Worse come to worse they use less pikmin on screen at once. After all, the DS isn't thaty weak. If they make the pikmin use very few polygons, it could work. After all, the Metroid Prime: Hunters demo had about 20 of those floaty enemies in one room with no slowdown.

shawwwwwn: You (and arbok, but he's cool) were actually insulting people.  That gives you no right to call other people out on a little sarcasm, you're much worse.

The DS wouldn't be able to handle 100 pikmin at once.  I don't know why saying that got the kid all bothered and pissy, but it's true.  Besides, if someone can't handle a little sarcasm YOU then they certainly don't belong here.  Grow up, quit your whining, and welcome to the internet.

I believe you have flawed reasoning KnowsKnothing.  This is because my critique was not about insulting people , you seem to be confused about this.  It was about sarcastic responses to new forum users.... I was not sarcastic to new forum users.... therefore there is no hyprocracy.  Get it? I hope so.

By 'thanks for proving my point'  I really meant,  'You seem a great fool.'  I thought that was obvious, I hope I cleared it up for you though.

FURTHERMORE the 'internet' consists of more than the planetgamecube forums.  Now don't get offended,  you seem to be confused on that point.  Hope I could shed light on the matter, and theres no need to thank me in your unavoidably witty reply.

Thank you professional.  Flame-off.  (<~~ not a fantastic four the movie endorsement.)

I would buy pikmin on the ds in a heart-beat if they could pull it off.  Even if the number of pikmin on-screen would have to be diminished the core gameplay mechanics could stil remain intact.
