Title: Mario Baseball > Star Moves

So, I'm trying to play through the single player of Mario Baseball and I'm getting kind of frustrated. In order to achieve some of the players' skill stars, I need to use their star pitch or star batting move in a game. Well any time I try and do it, I just lose one of my team stars but it doesn't do the special move.... Particularly using Yoshi.
When playing an exhibition game, I can fire off the egg pitch every time... in challenge mode, never...
