Title: Interesting Xbox launch stories (Rev related too)
Post by: Darkheart on November 22, 2005, 05:34:16 AM
Yea so today I was put in charge of our store's launch.  We recieved a whopping 3 core systems,6 premium and a 800 dollar bundle pack.  We actually had people campin out there since 5:30 last night, it was pretty sad but cool at the same time.  Anywhoo by the end of today, we had plenty of games, and no one bought any face plates, xbox live kits, or any accessories.  It was kind of fun hangin out with the peeps outside, I figured in 30 degree weather I could at least keep them company.  It was even greater to find a late 30 somethin mom who was more interested in the Nintendo Revolution, than anything else.  She knew about the system and all of its features but the controller.  All she cared about was being able to download  older games.  She even freaked me out when she said that she was dissapointed that Zelda was delayed.   I have to give it to Nintendo, their whole downloading classic games could be a huge success.  I know tons of people that buy those old plug and play games like pac man or old atari classics.  The same could be for the rev.  I applaud Nintendo good job.  Anywhoo the Xbox launch was hectic and fun, just seemed like half of the people there didnt even like xbox but oh well twas fun!

Was anybody there just to buy a system and sell it on Ebay?  What store do you work at, if I can ask?

It would be fun to work at a game or toy store during a system launch.

Wait.  So your store didn't FORCE people to buy bundles with all that useless crap included?  BRAVO!  BEST STORE EVER!

Nope but I suggested it to a few customers.  Oh and Toys R Us

Nope, but to be nice about it, the bundle packs were nice.  There was no third party crap, that 780 dollar one, was the premium system, an extra controller and 6 games.  It was what real bundle pack should be, not just the product with a bunch of crappy 3rd party stuff.  In matter of fact the only 3rd party thing I saw was a pelican face plate, thats it.  But to be fair, my crappy store threatens that if we dont try to sell their extended warranties, they have warrant to fire us or write us up.

Yeah I tried to explain it, but she was more interested in playing mario 3 and mario 64 then wanting to wave a tv remote.  She was a cool lady none the less.  Another young girl there too was standin in line for her bf from 11 p.m. til 9 this mornin.  She was a big Nintendo fan too and me and her talked about the Rev.  She believed that the new controller was going to bring the arcade experience home, which I also agreed too.  Her biggest fav with the controller was the whole sword idea.  I think most people are sold on that concept alone.

So I have a shiny new 360 core system sitting right next to me right now  New in Box.  I believe I was the only one in line for ebay with it at the Wal Mart I waited at.    The store got 14 systems in.  4 premium, and 10 core.  I was number 7 in line, and passed the 10 hours with Mario Kart.  I can't find a HDD anywhere, or I would have grabbed that as well.  But again, I didn't see anybody buy any accessories either.

Speaking of EBay, if you want  a good laugh, see what the 360s are going for, I just checked and saw one going for 1,375 USD.  Some people apparently just cant wait for slightly better graphics.

when a person with zero feedback wins for that much over the going rate, you have to know it's going to end in a no sale.

Wow, you won't believe how freaked out my mom was when I told her about that eBay thing.
At first she paused and asked me how much they normally go for and then she flipped out.
