Title: The WEP support issue...

I've been reading a ton of stuff as of late about how WEP is easily bypassed and that's it's not secure in the slightest bit. I could've swore there was a topic on this at one point in time here and I'm just wondering what's everyone's opinion of the DS only supporting WEP instead of WPA. Personally, I haven't had any issues regarding security yet, but then again I just bought the AP like 3 days ago and had it running for 2.

Personally I'm hoping Nintendo issues a firmware update that will allow the DS to use WPA.
It's a nice little money-spinner for Nintendo because it means those on WPA-encrypted networks have to get the USB adapter.

Actually, I heard that the only thing the Nintendo USB adapter does is mac-filtering and that people have had success connecting other wireless devices to it.

I know my opinion here is certainly not a popular one, but your wireless network is home based, right? You may or may not to business work on your PC, but it isn't anything top secret, right? You do keep your computer updated with all of the security patches, right? You have a WiFi device or two (not just network cards, but PDAs, Blackberries, or a DS) that only supports WEP, right? And you, of course, are not doing anything blatently illegal like trafficing CP or cracking Pentagon/DoD type computers, right? If so, I say you are a prime cadidate for using WEP.
WEP has no place in a bussiness or government setting, but for home networks where the idea is convieniece/recreation and the computers are otherwise patched/secure, you can ignore the tin foil hat jocks.

Here's another condition to consider: do you have the only wireless network in your neighborhood, as I do? If so, your chance of being targeted just increased tenfold. Of course ten times zero is nothing to worry about.

Yeah it's home based and there's like 15 other access points in the area, some of which aren't even protected with any encryption. Well, as long as I don't hear about any security violation epidemic around the neighborhood I'm not gonna worry about it TOO much.
