I find this interesting. They offer the most daunting system in history in price, setup, requirements and game genres, and they expect to attract moms?
Gonna have to give this one to Nintendo.

From the (small) article, it doesn't seem like Microsoft is necessarily trying to make gamers out of moms. Rather, they are targeting advertisements towards them so they buy the systems for their children. I can't remember exact statistics but 20-30 years ago men controlled the majority of the cash and made something like 90% of large-item purchase decisions. In recent years I believe the power has actually shifted towards women, who have almost equal say in big budget items (read: houses, cars, appliances, Xbox 360s, etc).

Another decision in the vein of Allard's comments about coming up with the Rev controller first.

Vudu, if they want moms to buy them then why isn't there a single announced game that would appeal to their sensibilities? Even Kameo is about a scantily clad wench.

Did you even read what I posted? They're not trying to get moms (or even parents in general) to purchase the system for themselves; they want parents to be familiar with the Xbox brand name so when their children ask for one it doesn't seem like a weird concept they can't relate to.

True, but the problem with that is the mom's will ask why do you need another xbox?

Avinash: Well, MS is trying to give you a list of things to say.

Most moms will be too samrt for the MS lines.
The REV on the other hand has a better Idea, give the moms a reason to get it for themselves.

They're stealing Nintendo's market! That's not cool!

I think MS is taking Nintendo seriously this round, despite the niche market comments. They know they can match Sony Mhz for Mhz, Dollar for Dollar, but Nintendo is different. MS is aware of Nintendo and I'm sure they are prepared to emulate them, just like they do the competition in all their other markets.

I'm not referring to them buying games for themselves. I'm saying what mother is going to be encouraged to buy the XBOX for their 10 year old if all they're seeing is Gears of War and such.

The mother is supposed to allow the kid to buy the thing. After all, mothers (and usually fathers as well but apparently MS hopes they'll buy into the thing by default. Good luck with my father) have a veto right when it comes to that stuff. Mom says "you don't buy that", you don't buy that.

Exactly. Which is why their game lineup is completely counterproductive.

It's funny how both Microsoft and Sony are desperately trying to go after the non-gamer/casual market with this upcoming gen.
Nintendo's going to mop the floor with them.

It's more like Nintendo are doing a bunch of neat tricks with a yoyo, MS pushes them over and claims they can do it better! Everyone says "wow!". Then they try to do some but end up failing miserably with the yoyo flying off the string and hitting someone in the head and MS are like "whoops lol, oh well too bad you all watched!", then people boo and start pelting them with rocks and grapefruit.

This seems like something Jack Thompson would want. Parents knowing about the violent games that they buy for their kids when what they really need is a belt. This MAY be a good thing if it keeps 360's on the shelves.

No, I think what Jack Thompsan wants is the obliteteration of any and all videogames.
