Title: Finally, a VG movie that maybe won't suck: PJ to do Halo
Post by: BiLdItUp1 on October 05, 2005, 06:24:48 PM
Here's the link to yahoo news.

I'm dissappointed, sort of, because I want Jackson to get back to making original stuff instead of transfering stories from one medium to another or remaking existing movies.

Still...gives some credibility to the whole enterprise. I know he's only producing, etc, but still.
Who's supposed to be directing/producing the Metroid movie?

John Woo. but the Metroid movie seems forgotten now : (

I dont know much about halo's story, but if its anything like the general stories of FPS, not even Jackson could make an interesting movie out of that.

Haha, moneyhats.
It'll still suck, rest assured.  Producing doesn't really mean much, it just means he makes sure everything runs smoothly and Microsoft deals out buttloads of money.

Seriously...i don't see how people are so excited about this... Executive producer just about means they get to put his name in teh credit and create hype like this.  People are so gullible...  I don't see how MS throwing money at a problem in this blatant fashion actually turns people's cranks...  come on, we're smarter than that.

Well, WETA is doing the special effects now too. I'm now slighlty more excited for the prospects of this thing

And I hope it stays that way. Ugh, John Woo *shudders*

I wonder if they'll show each scene three to five times to get the feel of Halo?

Not quite. They make you watch the first half of the movie and then they replay the same scenes but
backwards with an added 'flood'.

Lord of the Rings was great and King Kong could be great too, but I agree with the thread maker, Peter Jackson should do more original works and not adaptations.

Bump!

Apparently, PJ wants Guillermo Del Toro to do the Halo movie.

If true, this is pretty fantastic news - I really liked Hellboy. I was afraid Halo wouold turn into something like Doom or Black Hawk Dawn....but now I'm holding out a little hope that it might actually be interesting/enjoyable.

I think even if someone did Halo justice it still wouldn't make for that great of a movie.  The game itself is one of the most overhyped mainstream-pandering games ever made so naturally an accurate film adaptation would result in an overhyped mainstream-pandering movie.  I guess the people who think Halo is the best FPS ever would love the film but the rest of us wouldn't.

This is a match made in heaven: everything about Halo's story struck me as a dumb Hollywood movie.  Ha ha, seriously, by videogame standards, it's a pretty good story, but by movie standards, it's quite average, and I just don't get the point of making videogame movies nowdays.  Everyone knows they suck and the in-game graphics and stories are getting good enough that a movie would just be rehashing the same old story anyway.  Why not just go back and play the game?

Oh well.

Well there goes my idea that the Doom movie would just get released again as Halo 3. No need to change the titles or the characters even, as long as there are guns and explosions no-one will care about the lack of plot or the horrible monologues or the fact its another Rock movie.

But it'll still suck big time. As much as Doom? Big call, but its certainly possible.

Has anyone seen Peter Jackson's Bad Taste?

It's one of his earliest, low-budget movies.  After seeing that, you might be surprised that someone handed Peter Jackson The Lord Of The Rings franchise.  Though he likely did a lot of stuff in between.  Bad Taste is a film that is just...ugh, you've gotta see it.

That said, I think Peter Jackson is just producing, not directing.  He'll probably have some say and throw money at it to make sure it works out some way but not directly...directing.  Like Spielberg with the Transformers movie.  So if Peter Jackson likes the game himself, he'll come up with something that kind of resembles it.

Having only played the first Halo, and the PC version of it, I found the game lackluster and overly hyped so on the basis of game experience alone I do not have excitement for the movie.

As for the Metroid movie, it's in limbo.  I have nothing against John Woo and think he might be capable of doing more than stuff with twin pistols and doves everywhere, etc. but if the movie isn't progressing for other reasons, then it doesn't matter who's attached.

It WOULD be neat if the movie versions of these did go head to head.  Then I'd definitely see the Metroid movie if only to try to increase its box-office take, but the Halo film will probably still do better because of all the hype it would probably have.  Casual gamers are more likely to flock to Halo than Metroid.

The Metroid movie is being now controlled by Nintendo themselves (or is it "itself"?). That was the information that got mixed and ended up being the rumor of the Zelda movie. The Metroid movie is a reality.

"Has anyone seen Peter Jackson's Bad Taste?"

ha, yeah. Awesome film. Though I could only stomach it because the special effects were amatuerish enough that the fact that everything was fake was obvious. I couldn't get 15 minutes into Dead-Alive.

By the by, Peter Jackson probably got the LoTR job because of his early horror films.....because for them he needed to create a special effects facility (WETA)...and he got the LOTR job primarily by showing studio bosses a bunch of stuff weta did in preperation for LoTR.

Oh, and yeah, PJ did a high-brow film before Lord of the Rings, Heavenly Creatures. Incredible film, I highly recommend it.

So, um, anyway. Halo.

That's a bit sad.  Dead-Alive really picks up about a half hour into the movie.  You should give it another shot.

Plus, it's really cool how the monkey looks a lot like this dog.

I kick ass for the lord.

I think Halo the movie is going to bomb and they should get another director.  King Kong brought it around 25 million less than it was expected to bring in, as we all know 50 million (+) is a sign of bad things.[/sarcasm]
