Post by: theRPGFreak on September 14, 2005, 10:23:40 PM
Anyone know if they are making a 3rd Ghostbusters?

Has there been any evidence to suggest there will be?

On another note, how's the sequel to "Return to Oz" going?

This came completely out of left field...Personally I hope they don't, because nothing can beat the original cast...

Who's to say they can't use the original cast?

Haha, old ghostbusters would be hilarious.  But they still have to wait another fifteen years or so, and the original cast will be really old.

Why the wait? Is there something that I don't know?

So they will be older.  No reason for a wait, that was just me saying that.  They could technically make it anytime they want.

Bill Murray has become very hard to get in a movie (even though he has been in a lot lately)  He has become very reclusive of sorts.

They're all over 50. Harold Ramis is over 60. Not very compelling action/comedy star heroes anymore.

But no, there is no GB3. You can always check imdb.com for info on any movies in production. Many are listed as early as the "writing" phase.

I'm looking forward to X-Men 3 and the Wolverine spinoff.

I seriously doubt it. I do remember some talk of a Ghostbusters 3 about 10 years ago... BUT now it is long gone. Its D.O.A. The original 2 were a zillion years ago in movie terms and the budget wouldn't warrant it nor as someone posted the senior citizen cast.

Yeah I remember reading about the supposed "plot" to GB3. Murray and no interest in doing it (He said they were all too old and fat) so it was going to be about Ray and Egon training a new group of "youngsters ghostbusters". While this was happening the start of the new millenium would bring about the beginning of armageddon and New York was going to be the gateway through which hell opened up. The Youngbusters would then have to deal with the monsters and ghouls before they were ready, resulting in comedic mistrials and hilarious offbeat goofy antics for all.

It would have sucked worse than Part 2.

Er...didn't Rancid just summarize that 1999-ish cartoon series?

Maybe that's where the idea went when the studio wouldn't do the movie without Bill Murray?

Yeah, it was 1997...the guy who plays Luis in RE4 played one of the characters, the Mexican one with the earring, I believe..  Extreme Ghostbusters or Ultimate Ghostbusters or something.  You know.  One of those "mature" things.  Except not really.

EDIT: It would seem that the movie idea was actually based on the cartoon, since 1997 was still 3 years off the start of the new millenium.

I don't know. I can't remember when the hell I heard that movie script concept. But that's probably right. I watched a few episodes of that last ghostbusters cartoon. Man it was worse than that one back in the 80's that WASN'T "The Real Ghostbusters". I've blocked most of that one out but I think it had a gorilla in it.

I remember that show! One was handicapped, one was mexican, one was black, one was a blonde chick and there was perhapps another guy. I can remember the one where the mexican one tried to get his driver's lincense but the car was possesed.

I think Egon was the handicapped one...and if I remember right, that Mexican dude was a real player.

God that show sucked.

Egon wasn't the handicapped one, he was the mentor to the Xtreme Ghostbusters, and was voiced by Maurice LaMarche (who voiced Egon in every cartoon version of the show).  It also featured Tara Strong - aka Bubbles, aka Sheegor from Psychonauts.  Intentional or not, (Power....) EXTREME Ghostbusters SCREAMED "politically correct".  Oh and they also made a Game Boy Advance game out of it.

"Together you will be a wonderfully diverse and multi-ethnic superhero team, perhaps saving the environment, or whatever."

^Ah, a Maurice LaMarche fan. Cool points for you friend. (or nerd points as the case may be)

But the man is a legend. His commentaries on The Critic box set crack me up.

"Rosebud...Rosebud garden peas. Full of country goodness and green peaness! Oh that's terrible."

You know, that stupid Ghost Busters cartoon was based off an old awful TV show called, you guessed it, "The Ghost Busters".  Even in 1975 when everyone was hopped up on acid and 'ludes no one wanted to watch a show about two idiots and a their pet gorilla.
