Title: Happy! Mario 20th
Post by: wandering on September 13, 2005, 05:01:46 PM
Happy anniversary, Mario! The greatest 2d platformer of all time was released 20 years ago today. Go forth and buy a Gameboy Micro to celebrate!
Ah....I still remember my first time. On a windows emulator.
God, I loved it.

The memories, the memories... I didn't have a NES for years after it came out. Used to go over to a friends and play Mario, and Duck Hunt. I was such a happy kid when I finally got one. The first Mario is just one of those games where it's best with the original 8 bit graphics and sounds too. I would argue that if something is re-released, the developer should considering sprucing up the graphics, except in the case of Super Mario Bros.

I always get confused when people post Mario birthdays because I don't know if it's the video game character or the forum goer Mario
But happy birthday Mario! And please, many many more

Dammit, AGAIN I thought it was the random idiot's birthday...
Anyway, yeah, the 20th anniversary of the greatest game ever made. I remember being about 6 (?) when I first played it, and I was mesmerized. Even though I died in less than 14 seconds each time I played, I just kept coming back for more. When I finally beat it quite a while later, I can't describe the feeling that I got. Never have had the same feeling in regards to video games after that.

I remember coming from school, running to my room to fire up my Nes and play some Super Mario Bros. I can still remember the music...I was like 6 years old, so I could only arrive at the underground level, then warp (by running through the roof) and always loosing then. I could never pass those levels.
In fact, I finished SMB when I was 10, 4 years later.
